After discussing her brain surgery in an emotional interview, presenter Davina McCall has reassured viewers that she is okay and promised to “move on” with her life.
Friends Steven Bartlett and Davina Bartlett conducted an in-depth interview for her Begin Again podcast, which was edited to an hour and 45 minutes. For someone who only had their brain tumor removed in November, Davina provides many heartfelt answers and occasionally has a raw conversation.
However, to explain her tears, Davina added a note at the bottom of the video that said, “I just want to say that I’m in a really good place, and this podcast was part of that journey.”
She later added a second video to her own Instagram account, which reads, “My interview about having brain surgery comes out today. Interviews with me are done by Steven Bartlett. Because I am familiar with Steven, I asked him if he would do that. With him, I feel very secure. I felt very secure at the Flight Studios office while I was there. I’m surrounded by love.
I don’t want to bang on about this particular time in my life over and over again. I don’t want to be defined by this operation. I’ve had this operation, I’m very fortunate and it was a success and I’m gonna now move on with my life. I’ll obviously talk about the things I learned from it and what I learned from it, but I also wanted to kind of document [it] as well.
Davina, the host of ITV’s Long Lost Family and the Masked Singer, was reportedly given a free health scan after giving a talk on the menopause when she discovered the colloid cyst by accident. She describes in her interview how she felt that the tumor “had taken hold of me” and that it “attracted her”very day as a threat.
However, she eventually accepted it and used it as a coping mechanism. She even organized parties for Jeffrey to try to remain upbeat and to minimize the significance of the tumor. I’m grateful. Life will never be the same again, but in rather a good way, “the TV host said in a teary interview, her first since the operation in November.
In case she passed away while on the operating table, she also described how she created a WhatsApp plan for friends and family. However, thankfully, the operation from November was a success.
She also discussed her stepmother Gabby and her mother’s strained relationship in the interview. Teary Davina said:” My mum was like a… a fiery whirling dervish of sexual energy. And there was Gabby, who was everything I wished my mother could be. I’ve literally fallen in love with her…. She said to me, ‘ I’m sorry I asked you to move out when you were nineteen’. And I said, ‘ It was the single greatest thing you’ve ever done for me. ‘ “
Davina, 57, went into great detail about how she and her partner, Michael Douglas, choose to comfort one another and frequently wait until their tears stop pouring before embracing. Davina says:” Michael does for me… he holds space for me. Even if they actually freak him out or make him uncomfortable, he still has room for me to feel my feelings. He is not co-dependent in any way. It’s so nice.
“He’s taught me so much around that, like… me and him, if he needs to feel something, I don’t hug him. I don’t try and take it away from him. I go, ‘ Feel it’. And he affected me in this way. So, if I was crying, he’d sit with me next to me, but he wouldn’t touch me or hug me. He would go”, Feel it. “And I would let it out. And then at the end, he’d give me an enormous hug”.
Davina, the host of My Mum, Your Dad, has long advocated on women’s health issues, and presented a documentary called Sex, Myths And The Menopause and another on contraception called Davina McCall’s Pill Revolution.
In 2023, she received an MBE in the King’s Birthday honors for her contributions to broadcasting, and she received a special award for her broadcasting accomplishments at the National Television Awards.
