David Moyes Returns To Everton As Manager
Following Sean Dyche’s firing, David Moyes has been named as Everton’s manager, the Premier League team’s struggling team announced on Saturday.
“David is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and accomplished managers, having led Everton for more than 500 matches from 2002 to 2013”, a statement on the club’s website read.
“We are pleased that David is joining us at this pivotal time in Everton’s history”, Everton’s executive chairman Marc Watts said.
He is the ideal leader to help us move forward with our final season at Goodison Park and our new stadium, according to the club’s manager, who has over a decade of experience there. Working with David will help us lay the groundwork for a new era for Everton, he continued.
“It’s great to be back! I had a wonderful 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton, and I was happy when I was given the chance to re-join this great club,” Moyes said.
The club’s new owners, the Friedkin Group, moved for Moyes after dismissing Dyche just hours before Thursday’s 2-0 win against Peterborough in the FA Cup third-round.
After departing for a failed spell in charge of Manchester United, Moyes is alleged to have agreed to a two-and-a-half year contract extension to join Everton.
Since leaving West Ham at the end of last season, the 61-year-old Scot hasn’t worked.
On Wednesday, he will take on Aston Villa in his second Premier League game of the season.
After serving in charge for 11 years from 2002 to 2013, which included a fourth-place finish in 2005 and an FA Cup final appearance in 2009, Moyes is still a popular player with Everton fans.
After Everton’s defeat at Bournemouth on January 4, Dyche’s two-year reign abruptly came to an abrupt end.
Graham Potter, the former Chelsea boss, reportedly distancing himself from his position at Everton after joining West Ham from which he was later identified as the top target.
In the coming season, Moyes will be in charge of guiding Everton out of the relegation zone.
In his last 11 games in charge, Dyche managed just one point above the relegation zone.
