David Beckham will receive his knightry on Tuesday at Windsor Castle, and his wife Victoria has also consented to a title change.
David Beckham is set to receive his knighthood at Windsor Castle on Tuesday and his wife Victoria has agreed to adopt a new title. The former England captain’s honour was revealed in June as part of King Charles’ Birthday Honours list.
The Manchester United legend has reportedly been under consideration for a knighthood since 2011 and he will finally be dubbed a Sir by a member of the Royal Family today in recognition of his numerous contributions to sport and charity.
Beckham will also go by a different name, though, not just Beckham. His wife, former Spice Girl and fashion mogul Victoria, has also accepted a change of title in response to tradition.
Victoria will now be referred to as “Lady Beckham.” Despite being an optional formal adjustment, the 51-year-old has chosen to accept the title, which is given to a woman who is married to a man who holds the title of “Sir.”
Following the announcement that Beckham would at last receive the dream accolade, his partner shared a heartfelt message on Instagram.

She wrote next to a photograph of her hugging her husband: “You’ve always been my knight in shining armour, but now it’s official. Sir David Beckham!
What a privilege, I can’t help but be proud of you. Your commitment to the things that matter most, including your family, your job, your passions, and most importantly, your country, has never faltered.
“The way you’ve touched so many lives with kindness and humility over the years speaks volumes about the man you are and continue to inspire us every day. But I’m so, so proud to call you mine before all else. I’m so in love with you.
Beckham was also moved when the announcement was made, telling PA: “Growing up in east London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour.
“To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true. Off the pitch I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organisations that are supporting communities in need and inspiring the next generation.
He continued, “I’m so fortunate to be able to do the work I do, and I’m appreciative of being recognized for the work I do that gives me such great fulfillment.”
“I’m very proud and it’s such an emotional moment for me to share with my family,” I said. “It will take a while for the news to come into focus.”
The footballing legend had been widely tipped for the honour and was reportedly set to receive a knighthood in 2022, but leaked emails from 2017 in which he purportedly criticised the honours system and its committee scuppered those plans.
Beckham allegedly insulted the committee, calling them “unappreciative c***s” and claiming to have not cared about getting knighted. These reports were criticized by Beckham’s team, who criticized them as being false and accused them of fabricating the facts.
