David Beckham says his ‘heart is heavy’ as he breaks silence on death of friend

David Beckham, 49, has shared a moving tribute to the late Denis Law, who passed away on January 17.

After a very successful career that led to his inclusion in the English Football Hall of Fame, Scottish footballer Denis passed away at the age of 84. David shared photos from David’s time on the pitch on Instagram, alongside a touching message.

“Tonight we lost a true gentleman of the game… Our love goes out to Denis’s family. Our hearts are heavy tonight. A legend on the field but the perfect gentleman off… The King”, he wrote.

David attended a funeral service in mourning the passing of Manchester United legend Kath Phipps, but Denis’ death occurred shortly after. The long-serving receptionist died aged 85 at the start of December, prompting an outpouring of tributes. After taking over as manager of United in September 1968, Khath first joined the club under Sir Matt Busby’s leadership.

Kath started out as a switchboard operator, and ended up working on the reception at Old Trafford’s director’s entrance, as well as the entrance to the training ground at Carrington. On January 6, David was among those who showed up at the Manchester Cathedral to pay his respects, along with Sir Alex Ferguson and Roy Keane, two other famous sports figures. After revealing his personal family history to Kath, David was later joined by his mother Sandra and father Ted.

Kath’s last year before she passed away was one that David was particularly close to. He explained to him and the club in an emotional post about her passing on social media.

He wrote: “Forever in our hearts… Everyone knew who Kath was and adored her as she sat at Old Trafford’s reception, waiting to give me my tickets for the game, a face that I would always recognize.

I moved to Manchester when I was 15 years old, and Kath promised to look after my son, “I’ll look after your boy for you don’t you worry,” and she did just that. Without your smile as we enter those doors, Old Trafford will never be the same. “We love you.

David is grieving for two significant football players, as well as Rebecca Loos, 47, who was his former PA at the time, and Rebecca Loos, 47. Rebecca first made the assertions in 2004’s News of the World, but she has since spoken out once more.

Rebecca acknowledged that she was “no angel” in an interview with James English for his Anything Goes podcast, and that the reaction she received was unfair. “She complained:” The funny thing is, I got the s***, Victoria got the s***, David f****** never got any s***. That’s the world we live in. “
