Four weeks after having brain surgery to treat injuries she sustained in a heavy fall during a training run, Czech skier Tereza Nova has been released from an induced coma.
The 27-year-old, who competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics, fell on 24 January during her preparations for that week’s women’s World Cup downhill in the German resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
According to the Czech ski federation, she is now stable and will be transported home.
Ondrej Berndt, Nova’s partner and national ski coach, said, “We still have a long way to go. But I’m confident that we will make it.”
We would like to thank everyone for the support we are receiving, and we would also ask for respect for Tereza’s privacy and peace during her recovery, according to Tereza’s parents.
Nova was taken to a hospital where she was treated for a severe traumatic brain injury, carotid artery damage, and eye socket fracture.
Doctors gradually started reasserting Nova by gradually reducing her medication after two weeks.
