Portugal’s wheelchair basketball player Luis Domingos has been named to the England national performance squad for the national competition in wheelchair rugby.

One of three uncapped players in a 17-strong squad hoping to qualify for an Australian tour of Australia is Domingos, who plays club rugby for Castleford Tigers in the Wheelchair Championship.

Josh Edwards of Hull FC and Finlay O’Neill of the Halifax Panthers, along with Domingos, are two of the eight players added to the initial list of eight players chosen in May.

Head coach Coyd will select a final group of 10 players for an October four-game tour of Australia.

On October 30 and November 2, 2018, the tour will feature a two-test series against Australia in Gold Coast.

They’ll play two matches against state rivals, Queensland on the Sunshine Coast on October 24 and New South Wales on October 24 in Sydney.

Domingos scored the winning try for Castleford in their victory over North Wales Crusaders in April’s Wheelchair Challenge Trophy, which was awarded to second-tier clubs before switching to basketball. Domingos then returned to Leeds and scored the winning try.

After playing basketball for Portugal, Coyd said, “He’s a really exciting athlete in his chair and is now eager to test himself in wheelchair rugby league once more.”

O’Neill helped Halifax defeat London Roosters in the Wheelchair Challenge Cup final last Saturday, and all three uncapped call-ups made an impact in two recent University of York trials.

Nathan Holmes and captain-coach Wayne Boardman, both of Halifax’s cup-winning side, are just two players added to Coyd’s squad.

Sebastien Bechara (Catalans Dragons), Mason Billington (London Roosters), Wayne Boardman (Halifax Panthers), Jack Brown (Halifax Panthers), Josh Butler (Leeds Rhinos), Nathan Collins (Leeds Rhinos), Joe Coyd (London Roosters), Chris Haynes (Sheffield Eagles), Lewis King (London Roosters), Tristan Norfolk (Hull FC), Finlay O’Neill (Halifax Panthers),
