The Inspector General of Police and other authorities have been prohibited from inviting, arresting, or harassing the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, according to an interim order issued by the High Court in Kano.
The plaintiffs in the suit are the Kano State Attorney General, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Rimingado.
The defendants include Bala Muhammad Inuwa, the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone One, the Commissioner of Police of Nigeria, ASP Ahmed Bello, and the Inspector General of Police in Nigeria.
The defendants and their agents are prohibited from taking any actions that might violate the rights of the second and third plaintiffs by the court order, which was given on Monday.

In the ruling, Justice Ma’aji stated: “The defendants/respondents, either by themselves, their agents, officers, privies, representatives, or assigns, are hereby restrained from inviting, arresting, detaining, or harassing the officers of the 2nd plaintiff/applicant or interfering with the rights of the 2nd and 3rd plaintiffs/applicants generally”.
In the meantime, the court made a restraint on Rimingado from compelled to appear at any police headquarters, including their Abuja headquarters, on January 27, 2025, or any other day after that, pending decision-making.
However, the Nigeria Police Force has debunked claims by Mr. Rimingado that he was arrested, describing the allegations as misleading. The police clarified that Mr. Rimingado was only invited to address a petition against him in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The Nigeria Police Force read in response to Mr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado’s alleged arrest by police authorities, which the country’s police force has recently received. We want to clarify that Mr. Magaji was not detained; rather, he was invited by the Force to sign a petition he received from the Force.
” On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit received a petition against Mr. Muhuyi. He was requested to speak with police officials as part of the normal investigation protocol, which calls for a fair hearing. Mr. Muhuyi should cooperate with the police to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted, given his position as a public servant and a respected member of society, as opposed to attempting to garner media attention.
“Any claims that Mr. Magaji was detained are untrue and untrue. We urge the media to refrain from spreading false information that might be unnecessarily alarming or confusing. The Force continues to support the rule of law and follow the law in all investigations.
