Court Orders Remand Of Jude Okoye For Alleged $1m Theft

The Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja has mandated the remand of Jude Okoye, the elder brother and former P-Square manager, for allegedly stealing $1 million and £34,537.59.

In awaiting the hearing for his bail application, Justice Rahman Oshodi ordered him to remain in Ikoyi Correctional Center.

The judge halted the hearing of the bail application until March 6.

On a four-count charge, the defendant was arraigned by the EFCC along with his business, Northside Music Ltd.

In one of the counts, Jude and his Northside Music Limited allegedly used the $767,544.15 to make a dishonest move. The alleged sum was paid for by Lex Records Limited as payment for Peter Okoye’s special interest in the asset in exchange for music digital distribution and publishing royalties.

Mohammed Bashiru, the prosecutor for the EFCC, claimed the alleged crimes occurred between 2016 and 2023.

However, the defendant entered a not-guilty plea.

The defendant was then requested to be remanded in the correctional facility and for a trial date by the EFCC Counsel.

Clement Onwuenwunor (SAN), the defendant’s attorney, informed the court that he had a bail application that he had submitted for his client on January 27. He requested that the defendant be freed from jail.

The prosecutor stated to the court that he would respond to the application. In order to do so, he requested a brief adjournment from the court.

Justice Oshodi ordered the defendant’s remand and put the case on hold until Wednesday following the arguments of both counsels.

Before the Federal High Court in Lagos, Jude Okoye is also facing charges of laundering money, including $1.3 billion, $ 1 million, and $ 34, 537.59, all of which are connected to the money laundering.
