Justice James Omotosho questioned Kanu’s lawyer about whether the health issues that he claimed might prevent him from a second standing trial.

Justice Omotosho issued the order while ruling on Kanu’s request to be moved to a private ward at the National Hospital for urgent medical care because he is alleged to have a life-threatening illness.

The judge ordered the team, which had been set up by the NMA’s president, to evaluate the Department of State Services’ (DSS)’s (SAN) health facilities to determine whether they were sufficient to treat the defendant’s illness.

The team is also trying to determine whether Kanu’s request to be transferred to the National Hospital was justified, and whether his medical condition threatened to prevent him from standing trial.

Additionally, Omotoso mandated that the National Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer or his representative be a team member.

Within eight days of today (September 26, 2025), he mandated that the team’s chairman and secretary sign the report’s findings and place them on the court registry.
