Countyfile’s Matt Baker opens up on being ‘apart’ from wife as he issues family update

Matt Baker and his wife Nicola have been married to each other for more than 20 years, and their careers have recently changed.

Matt Baker, a favorite on “Countryfile,” and his wife Nicola have opened up about their time apart as she moves on to a brand-new adventure and pursues a writing career.

In recent years, the couple have captured viewers’ hearts on their hit Channel 4 series, Our Farm in The Dales, where the ex-Blue Peter presenter and his wife can be seen managing a sheep farm in the picturesque Durham hillside, close to where Matt was raised.

Despite her primarily focusing on her physiotherapy work and raising their two children, Nicola has also enjoyed writing stories over the years. What was once only a pastime has now become a full-time career, with Nicola currently having three children’s books in the works and even more in the works.

Matt and Lorraine recently discussed their individual ventures during a conversation on Lorraine’s couch as they wrestled with their own television schedules.

There are times when you are apart, according to Lorraine, “you go off doing your own thing while writing the books and you go off doing your own things around Britain.” But do you not believe that occasionally works?

We’ve just found our way through, Matt said, “We’re such doers in our lives, and we’re so supportive of what each other wants to do.”

Nicola explained that making the most of their time together was incredibly important, and that she wanted to make the most of it.

Matt and Matt met by accident while performing at a disco in Cleethorpes, which led to a stunning wedding more than 20 years ago. They are now parents to Molly and Luke, and they have observed how their bond only strengthens over time.

A Whistledown Farm Adventure: Finding Hope, Nicola’s first children’s book, was released in February of last year. Two more of her books, Rescuing Ruby and Meeting Meg, are currently available on shelves, with a second book coming out later this year.

While Nicola gives us a peek into her world with Matt, he himself is gearing up for a return to the telly later today, joining forces with Sammi Kinghorn to explore East Devon on the latest instalment of Countryfile.

Fans of the bucolic show can also anticipate Adam Henson’s comeback as he looks after the young cows on his Cotswolds farm.
