Coronation Street legend finally lands new job with co-stars after being ‘unemployed’

Ellie Leach, the actress, recently revealed that she was unemployed after logging her wardrobe into Vinted, a second-hand clothing app, and teased a new project with her Coronation Street co-stars.
A former Coronation Street star has reunited with their co-stars after reportedly being left “gutted and unemployed”. Ellie Leach has been spotted cosying up with her former colleagues as she teased a return to screens.
She decided to leave the soap in 2023 after 12 years on the Cobbles as Faye Windass. The actress was gutted to leave the ITV soap, yet went on to win Strictly Come Dancing in the same year. Despite her success on the dance show, Ellie has kept a low profile on TV screens and last month she decided to flog clothes on selling app Vinted for as little as £4.
Ellie was devastated when soap bosses said they could “see no future for the character” and has opened up on her work situation since. Just last month, Ellie revealed she was heading on an overseas trip but was “unemployed”. She wrote: “Working lunch (we are booking a holiday),” alongside a photo of her pal and added: “She’s a student and I’m unemployed.”
However, it seems Ellie’s luck may have changed as she reunited with her former co-stars Catherine Tydesley and Shayne Ward in Malta. The Good Ship Murder stars are in the country alongside the cast and crew of the Channel 5 series. Catherine shared a snap of the team enjoying a dinner together as she teased: “Strong lineup last night.”
Ellie’s appearance in the photo sparked speculation that she might have broken her dry spell by joining the cast and breaking her. She’s been wearing shorts and a crop top to cool off in Malta, where she’s been getting updates on. Although nothing has been confirmed informally, Ellie is anticipated to make her acting debut.
Ellie has previously spoken out about the “very hard” struggles of growing up with soap fame. Speaking in 2023, she said: “It’s very scary, don’t get me wrong, I’ve met some amazing people through this job. I would never have had the opportunities that I’ve had if it weren’t for Coronation Street. But it’s hard, being young.”
She has also praised her time on Strictly, where she was partnered with professional dancer Vito Coppola. Although their chemistry sparked speculation of a love affair among fans, both categorically denied any romantic ties. Reflecting on their journey, Ellie shared the profound impact the show had on her, stating: “The days after were very emotional.
“My time at Strictly changed my life, and I’m so grateful for the friendship and bond I made with Vito.” For the rest of my life, I’ll cherish this kind of friendship. I’m extremely fortunate and appreciative of the experience. Ellie and Vito insist that they are just close friends despite having matching bee tattoos. We just clicked right away when we first met, she said, explaining that Vito now has an extended family and that they keep sending her messages every day.
Ellie made her theatre debut a month after Strictly, and she has since taken the live show all over the UK. She was cast as Miss Scarlet in the stage play Cluedo, and she was named a part of the newest ITVBe reality series Drama Queens, which follows the lives of former and current soap actresses. Lucy Fallon, Jamelia, Jorgie Porter, Amy Walsh, Laura Norton, Roxy Shahidi, Rita Simons, and Brooke Vincent were also on the show.
