The New York Athletic Commission will look into the incident where Gervonta Davis was given a timeout for Lamont Roach Jr.’s controversial draw in round nine.

Davis, 30, took a knee in the match, but the referee did not declare it a knockdown, and the American was permitted to wipe his eyes with a towel.

A knockdown for Roach would have won the fight if the rest of the fight had stayed the same, with two scorecards marking it 114-114 and a third one giving it to Davis 115-113.

The commission cited a “technical issue” that prevented a replay being used within the “usual allotted time for review,” so they relyed on the referee’s in-ring decision.

Davis claimed that his eyes were being dripped from grease from his hair, so he voluntarily kneed.

The commission made no mention of the possibility of an overturn.

In a statement, it did state that it wanted to “assure the commission’s officials’ officials are not affected by future technical issues that prevent the delivery of ringside instant replay feeds when necessary.”

With the draw, Davis kept his WBA lightweight title, but Roach, who had started the match as the underdog, was immediately suggested for a rematch.
