At the European Eventing Championships at Blenheim Palace, Team-mate Tom McEwen and Great Britain’s Laura Collett won individual gold and bronze.
Collett, who won two medals at the Paris Olympics last year, surpassed Michael Jung and Fischerchipmunk, who are both competing in the individual division.
Collett, 36, and her mount London 52 took the showjumping course last Sunday, and she came away with a score of 27.0 overall.
McEwen, who was riding JL Dublin, advanced to the third place finish after a strong first round.
“I can’t express how much I want this,” she said. After winning, an emotional Collett said, “I didn’t even dream that this would happen.”
Because I believe I’ve let him down since he first joined the team, I feel like it’s primarily for the horse. The words aren’t really there, so to finally pull it off and grant him the championship he deserves. For him, this is.
Competitors competed in dressage for the first two days of the competition, with Jung’s superb late performance on Friday holding onto a narrow lead over Great Britain in the team standings heading into the weekend.
