After having eye surgery, Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman posted a candid photo from her hospital bed and warned viewers not to “zoom in” on her.
TV presenter Claudia Winkleman has revealed she has undergone eye surgery – and she can’t don her trademark heavy eyeliner for weeks as she recovers. The Strictly Come Dancing co-host was flooded with support as she shared a candid update with her fans on Friday night.
Claudia, 53, looked unrecognizable when posing next to a medical professional in the photo while wearing a hospital gown. Her usual heavy fake tan and smokey eye make-up were not present.
Captioning the image, The Traitors host told her Instagram followers: “This amazing human makes me see. He’s operated on my eyes before and he did it again today. No eyeliner for weeks and I sleep in goggles (no words) but I’m eternally grateful.
My left eye is wonky, so do not zoom in on it. Julian, I appreciate you. This is not an advertisement; I paid for the treatment. I simply adore him. I’m probably still a little too sedated. Night and night.
Izzi Warner, a Gogglebox star, wrote in one of the first comments on Claudia’s post, “We still have the costume, and Bobby is willing to wear the eye liner for you in Claudia!” “Happy healing.”
Drag Race UK star Baga Chipz told the TV star, “You look beautiful Claudia,” with a fan stating, “He did my eye surgery about 8 years ago!” listened to rock music while doing it. He was correct when he said it would change my life. Amazing man!
Claudia’s health update comes just days on from the popular star being made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours.
The mother-of-three presenter received a broadcasting award last week along with Tess Daly, her Strictly Come Dancing co-host, for her services. I’m incredibly appreciative of receiving this honor, Claudia said. Working with people who are incredibly talented is a real privilege, and I only have this because of them.
“So this is for the BBC, the traitors and the faithful, for pianos and for the cha cha. I will buy a hat and am taking my mum. I am ridiculously lucky and will celebrate with Tess by doing a paso doble.”
Born and raised in London, she studied history of art at Cambridge University and after graduating began her career as a TV and radio presenter, fronting a range of BBC TV shows including Comic Relief and The Great British Sewing Bee.
She also hosted programs on BBC Radio 2 up until 2024, including Claudia Winkleman Arts Show, Claudia On Sunday, and the comedy quiz series Hot Gossip.
She began hosting the weekday companion program It Takes Two on BBC One in 2004 before moving on to broadcaster Zoe Ball, where she appeared alongside Tess Daly on Sunday night.
Since Sir Bruce Forsyth resigned, the presenter has since joined Tess for the main show every Saturday since 2014. The Traitors, a popular BBC game show, was based on the Bafta-winning presenter, and he won the 2023 award for best entertainment performance.
In the charity spin-off series The Celebrity Traitors, Alan Carr, Sir Stephen Fry, actor and broadcaster, and retired diver Tom Daley, 19 famous people will enter the castle in the Highlands.
