This week’s Cannes Film Festival premiere of Ethan Coen’s Honey Don’t was held at the same location as Captain America actor Chris Evans and Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza, and Charlie Day.
Actor Chris Evans has revealed why he missed his new film’s premiere earlier this weekend. He was noticeably absent when the rest of the leading cast and director Ethan Coen were met with applause at its recent debut screening.
The upcoming film Honey Don’t! had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival on Friday night ahead of its theatrical release later this year. It was part of this year’s Midnight Screenings schedule of the annual event in France.
Chris, 43, was absent from the screening at Grand Théâtre Lumière in convention centre Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, where the festival is held. He also wasn’t with his co-stars Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Charlie Day at a subsequent photocall for the film later on yesterday.
The actor – best known for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – confirmed his absence from the festival in a post on his Instagram Story today. He told his followers on the platform that he had been celebrating his mother Lisa Evan’s milestone 70th birthday instead.
Chris previously remarked, “I wish I could have been with my incredible cast and filmmakers at Cannes, but there are some things you just can’t miss!” Along with a photo of his coworkers, Chris also wrote: “I wish I could have been there.” Congratulations to everyone”!
The Honey Don’t cast is led by Margaret! in the role of Honey O’Donahue, a private investigator who investigates a string of deaths linked to a “mysterious” church. In the upcoming movie, Chris is portrayed as a “charismatic cult guru.”
Some of the cast members and Ethan, 67, and Tricia Cooke, 67, were there to assist with the Cannes Film Festival premiere earlier this weekend. Following the film’s screening in the early hours of Saturday, there was a standing ovation that lasted for more than six minutes.
Ethan thanked the audience for their support, who is well-known for movies like No Country for Old Men (2007). Thank you all so much, he said to the audience at the screening. That is very satisfying. We’re so pleased you enjoyed the film.
Margaret – who starred alongside Demi Moore in the film The Substance (2024), which won an Oscar in March – also expressed gratitude over the reception. Amid applause, she told fans: “Thank you guys so much. I love you guys.”
Honey, don’t! was the only movie that was shown at Cannes following the festival’s debut last week, May 13. The History of Sound and The Mastermind, both of which star Josh O’Connor, were other works that were on display at the festival.
Honey Don’t!, the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, came to an end last night in the city. having been the Midnight Screening’s final film. This month’s festival had a 12-day duration and had its closing ceremony.
