Rashee Rice, the wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, has received a six-game ban from the NFL for breaking its personal conduct rules.
Following Rice’s conviction for his role in a multi-vehicle collision in Dallas in March 2024, which resulted in numerous injuries, the suspension is issued.
The 25-year-old admitted to two third-degree felony counts and received a 30-day jail term.
Rice is suspended without pay and “will serve out the penalty,” according to the NFL. Additionally, it is against his will to participate in Chiefs training.
On September 5, the Chiefs’ regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil will be Rice’s absence.
Additionally, he will be prohibited from playing for the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Detroit Lions.
On October 19, he will be eligible to play again for the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7.
Prior to the scheduled 30 September disciplinary hearing, the NFL initially considered suspending Rice for more than half the season, but reached an agreement with the NFL Players Association regarding the suspension.
Following a breakout rookie year in 2023 with 79 receptions, 938 yards, and seven touchdowns, Rice picked up a season-ending injury four games into the 2024 campaign.
Rice apologized “for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families” following his sentencing last month.
