Cheryl Tweedy, who was referred to as Cheryl Cole when she wed England footballer Ashley, raised £1 million to fund the Cheryl’s Trust Centre in Newcastle City Center.

Cheryl Tweedy’s name has been dramatically stripped from a charity for which she helped raised £1million.

The singer established the Cheryl’s Trust Centre in her native Newcastle and funds built via the Cheryl Cole Foundation have supported disadvantaged young people there for years. Cheryl, 42, declared it an “incredibly special” day when King Charles, then Prince, visited the centre in 2021.

The Prince’s Trust Cheryl’s Trust Centre, however, has been removed. A sign that reads simply “King’s Trust” was added in place of it. The Geordie star’s fan commented, “It’s very sad. She was the engine of it. Her fans are angry about the decision. It’s not at all cool, one user wrote online, “Such a cheap shot that her name was removed.”

After Charles ascended to the throne the year after his visit, the charity was formed in collaboration with royal charity, the Prince’s Trust, which later became the King’s Trust. The King thanked the actress, who appeared in Girls Aloud, for her “energy and enthusiasm” during his visit.

At the peak of the The X Factor judge’s fame, it was said that the King viewed Cheryl — who was raised in Walker, Newcastle — as a valuable ally for enhancing his public appeal. He even brought in her long-time mentor, Kristina Kyriacou, to serve as the PR chief for his extensive charity network, reports the Daily Mail. It is said Cheryl first encountered the King at a Prince’s Trust gala dinner in 2012, later joining him for tea at Clarence House.

After having son, Bear, eight, with her then-partner Liam Payne, Cheryl left the limelight after a hugely successful pop and television career that led to her earning a multi-million-dollar fortune.

One Direction singer Liam tragically died last year at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina. He left behind a £28.6million estate, and, having died without a will, named Cheryl as the administrator responsible for managing the assets on behalf of their son, Bear, the rightful heir.

According to a royal source, “Chryl’s Trust was given the name of the center at a temporary basis.” It made sense to update the center’s title and signage as well, they continued, “When the charity officially changed its name this year from the Prince’s Trust to the King’s Trust.” According to a spokesperson, “Cheryl continues to be a highly regarded Ambassador for the King’s Trust.”
