Chelsea’s Kerr called PC ‘stupid and white’, court hears

A jury was told that Chelsea striker Samantha Kerr had “stupid and white” language with a Met Police officer during a confrontation at a police station in south-west London.

In the early hours of January 30th, 2023, the Australian football player is accused of causing PC Stephen Lovell racially aggravated harassment.

A taxi driver complained the passengers refused to pay the costs of cleaning up after one of the passengers got sick, and that Ms Kerr and her partner, a fellow football player, Kristie Mewis, allegedly smashed the back window of the car while they were out drinking.

At the police station, Ms Kerr is alleged to have become “abusive and insulting” towards PC Stephen Lovell.

A jury at Kingston Crown Court heard footage from the officer’s body-worn camera on Monday, in which Ms. Kerr describes herself as “stupid and white” and uses an expletive.

Prosecution barrister Bill Emlyn Jones KC told the jury the comments left PC Lovell “shocked, upset, and humiliated”.

Ms. Kerr described the situation as “a heated moment” and distressing.

Grace Forbes, defending, said: “Nobody disputes the words that were said.

” But simple words, even words like these, do not make you guilty of a criminal offence. “

According to the prosecution, Ms Kerr and Ms Mewis had been drinking on the night of 29 January 2023, before deciding to take a taxi home.

Later, the driver called the police to report that a woman was trying to smash the back window in his car.

According to the court, the operator advised the taxi driver to leave the Twickenham police station and seek the assistance of nearby police.

Around 02:20 GMT, PC Lovell and a fellow PC were both in a marked police car heading toward the station.

The officers observed Ms. Kerr escaping from the taxi’s broken rear window, according to Mr. Emlyn Jones.

The prosecution continued, “Ms. Kerr claimed that the taxi driver had collected them before refusing to deliver them to Ms. Kerr’s address.

They broke the rear window to break the alarm and escape, and the taxi driver was apparently kidnapped because they thought the taxi driver was having an argument with them.

“PC Lovell returned outside to assess the taxi’s damage.”

The taxi driver said one of his passengers had fallen ill and that he had asked them to pay for the cost of cleaning it up, but they refused.

He called the police at that point, he claimed.

The taxi driver’s ex-partner, PC Lovell, was charged with telling the jury, but they kept interrupting him.

On body camera footage, Ms. Kerr can be heard claiming that the police had snuffed her when she herself attempted to call them in the taxi.

When PC Lovell replied” They wouldn’t do that”, Ms Kerr swore at the officers and twice called them” stupid and white”.
