After using pyrotechnics during their October game against Borussia Dortmund, the Scottish champions were given a suspended ban on selling tickets to away fans.
The use of pyrotechnics is likely to be noted, but the European governing body Uefa is awaiting the details from their match delegate report from Villa Park.
The Celtic fans’ one-game suspension and suspension will be automatically imposed if the incident is found in the delegate’s report and Celtic are found guilty.
There could also be further punishment, but that will be determined by Uefa’s control, ethics and disciplinary body, with an outcome unlikely until next week.
After the game, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers was questioned about the smoke bomb connection, but he chose not to draw.
Before their 4-2 defeat, the Scottish champions had already been guaranteed a place in the new Champions League play-off round.
