TV presenter Tyler West and celebrity host Roman Kemp joined them for the celebratory edition of the risky BBC reality series.
A Celebrity Race Across the World contestant has revealed how he and his partner were forced to cope alone during filming. Speaking on a recent episode of the You About? podcast, Roman Kemp was joined by TV presenter Tyler West, with both having taken part in the celebrity version of the globe-trotting BBC reality programme.
Teaming up with his sister Harleymoon Kemp and going head-to-head with show competitor Tyler, Roman (son of I’m A Celeb’s Martin Kemp) embarked on a journey across the Caribbean and Pacific coastline of Central America.
In the programme, four pairs battle it out: Anita Rani and her dad, Bal; Dylan Llewellyn and his mum, Jackie; Tyler and Molly Rainford; and Roman and Harleymoon Kemp. The teams must cover 5,900 km from Isla Mujeres to Colombia’s Península de La Guajira.
But the contestants are banned from using air travel, and, to make matters even tougher, they’re forbidden from using smartphones. Roman explained: “And by the way, like, crew do not let you on their phones,” with Tyler adding: “Absolutely not.”
However, for Tyler, it sounded like a difficult sacrifice because he acknowledged that he was “peeking” at someone’s TikTok feed while driving.
Tyler continued, “That was a killjoy for me because I thought, there were so many times that Molly and I were stressed, and then I was like, “Molly, don’t worry, they’re gonna cut the cameras and come and help us in a minute.”
Roman then chimed in, asking if he thought he would get navigational help, as Tyler explained that he believed he would get “guidance” or maybe a “hint.”
No, there was actually nothing, he said, because that is how they usually capture the best moments or when we are stressed out. They simply say, “Roll the cameras, roll the cameras.”
In related news, Roman opened up about his mental health struggles during a candid chat with his sister on Thursday, 20 November’s episode.
During the programme, after the pair had finished a day’s journey and paused for a break at a bar, Roman confessed that he couldn’t fathom how Harleymoon managed to remain so positive.
Harleymoon claimed that she tries to “actively be happy,” which led to her brother’s admission that he was “jealous” about this trait. He said, “You make the decision to feel happy because I always believe you were born with a happy level [gestures highly] and my ceiling [gestures lower]gestures.
Do you understand what I mean when I say that I can’t fully understand [higher gesture] even with my tablets? He then addressed the cameras and discussed his journey with mental illness and antidepressants for more than 15 years.
He continued, “They certainly help for me. It’s not one size fits all for someone; for some people, it’s just going to the pub and drinking a pint with their friends.
He continued to share how he’d experienced “horrible times”, but had chosen to stop taking the medication as he’s now in a “good place in life”. Meanwhile, Tyler and Molly, who reportedly got acquainted during the 2022 series of Strictly Come Dancing, shared about their experience on Celebrity Race Across the World on ITV’s Lorraine.
Tyler admitted that he thought “I think there were times along our journey on Race Across the World when I was like, I can’t get with anyone else because you’ve seen me in some vile circumstances.”
Molly agreed, mentioning “a few of the stomach issues” and how he had witnessed the actress at her worst.
He went on to detail some of the difficulties they encountered. You have a reasonable budget, and that’s a lie. You actually have to consider, like, it’s a survivalist, like, where am I going to eat. He pointed out.
Where am I going to go to sleep, and how? How will we get there? “.
