It has been confirmed that a music legend from the 1980s passed away at the age of 72. On Thursday, June 19, Cavin Yarbrough, a member of the renowned R&, B duo Yarbrough &, Peoples, passed away due to heart-related complications.
Following his passing, his wife and long-time music partner Alisa Peoples paid emotional tribute. She told LATF USA, “He was my protector and my true love.” He is currently my protector angel.
Michele Elyzabeth, the couple’s representative and long-time friend, also paid homage to the actress in a moving tribute. She remarked, “Cavin was a kind man with a great heart who also had extraordinary talent.” His legacy will remain etched in everyone who knew him, whether it be through his music, our memories, or even our hearts.
Cavin was a producer and pioneer who contributed to the 1980s’ sound of R&, B, as well as being a singer and musician. The pair quickly rose to fame and achieved a number-one hit with Don’t Stop the Music in 1981 with Alisa.
The pair received a Grammy nomination a year later as a result of the record. The dance and funk scene still enjoys the song.
They later signed with Total Experience Records after being first discovered by Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band. Guilty, I Wouldn’t Lie, and Heartbeat were just a few of their popular songs.
After gaining notoriety, the duo later relocated to Dallas to rekindle their spiritual and personal roots. They established their own production business there.
However, the couple continued to tour and also made acting debuts, playing various roles in films. They were honored at the Dallas Convention Center’s Black Academy of Arts and Letters in 2021, too.
Fans were quick to express their condolences on social media following the sad news of his passing. One user wrote, “In Loving Memory of Cavin Yarbrough: A True Texas Legend,” on Twitter/X.
Another user posted “R. I. P. Cavin Yarbrough #DontStopTheMusic.” In their tribute, they shared a Yarbrough &, Peoples album cover.
Fans also left touching messages on Facebook elsewhere. One user wrote, “RIP Cavin Yarbrough, your voice, your artistry, and your legacy with Yarbrough &, Peoples touched so many hearts. We won’t stop the music, and you can’t. Your music will always be present.
