Prosecutors Call For PSG’s Achraf Hakimi To Face Rape Trial

French authorities ordered Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi to stand trial for the alleged 2023 rape of a woman, which the Moroccan international denied on Friday.

The prosecutor’s office in Nanterre informed AFP that they had requested that the prosecutor take the rape case before a criminal court.

The prosecutor’s office told AFP in a statement that “it is now up to the investigating magistrate to make a decision within the parameters of his order.”

Hakimi, 26, scored the winning goal in the 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the May final, which was crucial for PSG’s first Champions League triumph.

Hakimi, who helped Morocco reach the 2022 World Cup’s historic semi-finals, was accused of raping a 24-year-old woman in March 2023.

While his wife and children were away on vacation, Hakimi allegedly paid for his accuser to visit his home in Boulogne-Billancourt on February 25, 2023.

Following the incident, the woman alleges rape and is now being questioned by police at a police station.

Prosecutors decided to bring charges against the player despite the woman’s refusal to make a formal accusation.

She claimed to have met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023 when she was reporting to the police at the time.

She claimed that she had taken a taxi from his house the night before to his home. Before raping her, she claimed to have told police that Hakimi had started kissing her and making consensual sexual advances, according to a police source.

She claimed she was able to free herself and text a friend who had arrived to pick her up.

In light of the facts surrounding the case, Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, who spoke with AFP after the news was made, described the trial request by the prosecution as “uncomprehensible and meaningless”.

“We and Achraf Hakimi continue to be as composed as they were when the proceedings began.

We would obviously pursue all possible appeals, she continued.

The woman’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, told AFP, “My client welcomes this news with immense relief.

Hakimi, who was born in Madrid, joined Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga in 2018 after spending some time in the youth system at Real Madrid.

He then made 73 Bundesliga appearances.

He made his first team-related move to Inter Milan in 2020, before moving on to PSG in 2021.

Hakimi played a key role in the Morocco team’s transition from Africa to the Arab world cup semifinals in Qatar.

Adamawa Gov Gifts Super Falcons’ Coach ₦50m, House for WAFCON Victory

Following Nigeria’s recent victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, presented Justine Madugu with a 50 million dollar gift and a three-bedroom home.

Governor Fintiri stated on Friday that the gesture was in honor of Madugu’s patriotism and contribution to the country’s success at the tournament via his official X handle (previously Twitter).

“Today, I was honored to be honored to have Coach Justine Madugu, a true son of Adamawa and a champion of Nigeria’s victory at WAFCON 2025,” Fintiri wrote.

We have given him a 3-bedroom home and $500,000 as a reward for his bravery and patriotism. Our sporting renaissance is inspired by his success.

Madugu, a native of Adamawa State, was a member of the coaching staff that helped the Super Falcons win the 2024 WAFCON final.

The Nigerian team won the championship for the 10th time in a row on Saturday, defeating Morocco in a fiery comeback, 3-2, to claim the title.

Prior to the Falcons’ arrival in Abuja on Monday, President Bola Tinubu had hosted a presidential reception.

Every member of the technical crew, including Madugu, received $ 50, 000, three-bedroom apartments, and national honors of Officer of the Order of the Niger, while each player received $100, 000.

World Champion Noah Lyles Out Of 100m At US Trials

Following his victory in the opening heats, reigning world champion and Olympic champion Noah Lyles, who won the 100-meter race in Oregon on Friday, pulled out of the semi-finals.

Lyles, who won gold in the 100-meter race last year’s Paris Olympics, clocked 10.05 seconds on Thursday in Eugene’s Hayward Field, which was his fifth-fastest qualifying time.

Due to his reigning 100m world championship title, Lyles is already guaranteed a spot on the team despite the fact that this week’s meeting in Eugene is a qualifying event for the World Championships in Tokyo in September.

Lyles, 28, is also a qualified Olympic swimmer who is currently the 200-meter champion. Lyles stated after his 100-meter heat on Thursday that he still intends to complete the Eugene 200-meter race.

Everyone knows I started the season with a late start because of injury, but Lyles, who was beaten in his first 100 meters on July 19 at the London Diamond League, said, “I need races.”

D’Tigress Defeat Cameroon To Reach Sixth Afrobasket Semis

The D’Tigresses, who have six titles, defeated Cameroon 83-47 to advance to the semifinals of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket tournament, keeping their title defense alive.

The victory brings them to 27 after starting their unbeaten run in Africa in 2015. It also brings them to a record-equal fifth title in a row. Only Senegal is currently fourth in the world, surpassing Nigeria’s current four.

With their strong hands, Jessica Thomas and Maria Ewodo’s 4-0 start gave the Indomitable Lionesses the only advantage they had before defending champions Amy Okonkwo, who had already been ranked most valuable in the game, put the game to the side.

Rena Wakama’s team took the lead at 5-4 with a jump shot from Elizabeth Balogun, who then went on an 8-0 run in 2:140 to take the lead 21-9.

Cameroon scored 20 points in the second quarter to match Nigeria at both ends of the floor. They were 41-29 at halftime due to a lackluster first-quarter performance.

The 2021 bronze medalists’ fate was sealed by a 25-2 run in the third quarter, which left them with a 16-14 lead late in the fourth quarter.

The team effort earned Okonkwo 18 points in just under 19 minutes.

With at least one basket, every player on the scoreboard who had more than ten minutes of playing time was included. Four players had double-digit scores.

Cameroon, a former silver medalist, is competing for fifth place, which would be an improvement on their performance from 2023, while Nigeria is continuing to rewrite the history of women’s basketball in Africa.

The outcome was that “we played as a team, enjoying the game by doing what we do best,” the team said. We’re thrilled to have reached the semifinals once more. We’ll make every effort to reach the championship game. They are familiar with us, just like we are. We just need to “do our thing” and watch what happens in the end.
