In a play-off, Patrick Reed won the LIV Tour’s first match against the Dallas team, beating three opponents.

The 34-year-old American finished with Paul Casey, Paul Oosthuizen, Louis Oosthuizen, and Jinichiro Kozuma, both from Japan, at six under.

On the opening play-off hole, Reed, who left the PGA Tour three years ago, put a testing putt for a birdie to win.

He was three over for his final round of 75, which gave him a three-shot lead going into Sunday.

Tyrrell Hatton, England’s top golfer, briefly held the lead on the back nine, but a double bogey on the 12th hole scuppered his chances, leaving him one shot back and five under.

Brooks Koepka, a five-time major champion, withdrew from the competition on Friday after punching a tee box into the crowd.

After a poor tee shot on the ninth hole, he hit his club into the ground before striking the left-hander to the left of the tee in the direction of a small crowd of fans.

With a second-placed finish in the women’s 3, 000-meter steeplechase, only three hundredths of a second behind Finland’s Ilona Mononen, Sarah Tait, who made her international debut, was one of the standout performers on the final day.

Revee Walcott-Nolan won the women’s 1500m race, and Toby Harries won the men’s 200m.

Scott Lincoln also placed fourth in the men’s shot put, while Bekah Walton, who had surgery on her throwing arm just five months ago, threw 58.63 meters.

Route to Club World Cup final opens up – find out who could play who

Images courtesy of Getty

Teams can begin plotting a way to the final after the first half of the Fifa Club World Cup quarter-final matches have been set.

On Saturday, July 5 (02:00 BST), one of England’s two representatives will face Palmeiras.

The Blues won the game in extra-time against Benfica, which caused the weather to cause the game to be delayed by two hours.

In a clash between two heavyweights later that day (17:00 BST), European champions Paris St-Germain take on Bayern Munich.

On Tuesday, July 1 (02:00 BST), Manchester City host Al-Hilal in one of the last four ties to be played.

The final 16 are completely drawn.

In the quarter-finals, who competes?

Chelsea already knows their Brazilian team, Palmeiras, whose teenage star Estevao Willian joins the Blues after the tournament. Philadelphia is where that game is taking place.

The Champions League matchup between PSG and Bayern Munich takes place again in 2020.

In Orlando, Manchester City would face either Inter Milan or Brazilian side Fluminense if they defeated Saudi side Al-Hilal.

Complete quarter-final draw:

In the semi-finals, who would meet?

If both teams advance that far, Manchester City and Chelsea would meet in the semi-finals.

Tuesday, July 8th, at 8:00 BST, for that game.

If Xabi Alonso’s side can survive the next two rounds, PSG or Bayern Munich could play Real Madrid in the other semi-final, which will take place 24 hours later.

The final is when?

The MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will host the final on Sunday, July 13 (1:00 BST).

‘Players were begging to come off’ – Ward on Ohio heat

Inpho

Due to the heat in Ohio during their 4-0 friendly defeat against the United States, Republic of Ireland manager Carla Ward claimed that she had players “begging to come off.”

The Republic struggled with the heat even though the TQL Stadium had 30C in the first half of the game.

Ward made just four changes because the Republic lost a lot of regular starters, compared to Emma Hayes’ completely different starting eleven from the first friendly between these two teams four days ago.

She claimed that in order to safeguard her players’ health, she was forced to make additional adjustments during the game.

“We had players asking to come off on 22 minutes, but we were unable to do that,” she told RTE, and then three more forced changes came after half-time due to players’ physical decline and some unwellness.

“We couldn’t do anything about it because the players were almost begging to come off in the second half.”

It’s been a really positive camp, they say.

Ward was asked if the Republic’s decision to play two end-of-season friendlies in the USA would help them given the concerns over the conditions, the heavy nature of both defeats, and the exhausted squad. The Republic will now face Belgium in the Nations League play-off in October.

The former Aston Villa manager resolutely believed that her under-strengthened squad had gained valuable lessons from the camp and the two matches against the world’s top-ranked team.

We have examined two different playing styles and ways of playing, added a few more layers to what we are trying to accomplish, and it has been a really positive camp overall, she continued.

These two defeats are obviously hurtful, but there must be some truth to this.

‘Ballon d’Or’ James makes England return before Euros

Images courtesy of Getty

Take note, Europe: Lauren James is back.

After three months, James, 23, only needed eight minutes to make a decisive save as England defeated Jamaica 7-0.

The Chelsea attacker, who hasn’t played since April due to a hamstring injury, made her way onto the field, where everyone in the King Power Stadium erupted to cheers.

And what a better time for her return could have been. England’s opening Group D game at Euro 2025 will take place in the hands of France, but Sarina Wiegman’s “special player” is fit and ready to go.

The 23-year-old appears ready to play a crucial role in England’s quest for glory after impressing with three goals and three assists at the World Cup two years ago.

What James brings to the table is called “she’s a little magician.”

James was a difficult winger in 2021 who was waiting to be discovered, but now she is making money by comparing her to Kelly Smith, one of the greatest players in all time.

Karen Carney, a former Lioness, continued to praise James on ITV, saying, “She can do things that I haven’t seen any player since Kelly Smith.” She’s Ballon d’Or”.

Before Saturday’s game against France, James’ performance as Wiegman will be a source of great anxiety.

Ella Toone, a player for Manchester United, started the match in that role and scored two goals, but James lit up the King Power Stadium with her ability to glide past opponents with her passing and pick out passes that weren’t noticed.

It’s difficult not to get excited about James, ex-England goalkeeper Karen Bardsley said on BBC Radio 5 Live. I believe she needs to be properly managed, and it’s really exciting to give her a sneak peak at what she can offer this Lionesses attack and midfield. It is mouthwatering food.

She plays midfield like a little magician, in my opinion. Her unpredictability, shooting ability, and natural movement. In the middle of the field, she appears to be running her own business.

What kind of Euros impact might James make?

James’ return to the pitch was a huge boost for England, but is she prepared for 90 minutes against France? With only 30 minutes of playing time after three months, it’s unlikely to be the case.

Wiegman, a two-time Euros champion, knows how to be patient with James: “Once we’re building her, we’re going to. She has put in a lot of effort to get where she is right now, both at Chelsea and in our last two weeks.

She completed every training session very well. We hope to continue developing her as we move into the France game because this was the first time she could get minutes.

With only 32 of her 894 starts in this term’s three months playing, James lacks match intelligence, and on Saturday, she could play off the bench against France.

Toone, 25, has nearly 1, 000 more games this year than James, and he has always done so in England, especially at the Euros.

With the versatility of the Chelsea forward, Wiegman can use her on either wing or as a false nine, making it less straightforward than a James and Toone battle for the starting XI spot.

We also understand that midfield and up front are up against each other in a lot of competition. We’ll figure it out, Wiegman added.

What the fans said was “pure class.”

As the Lionesses prepare to depart for Switzerland, England fans expressed their joy at James’ return.

You have to pray Lauren James is fit for all the games, the best in the world, because she’s on a completely different level five minutes in and has sent in three world-class balls.

Lauren James, that’s what I call it.
