Cerny water squirt showed ‘lack of respect’ – Rodgers

SNS

Vaclav Cerny’s Rangers winger, according to Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, showed a lack of respect with his water-squirting celebrations in the Old Firm derby.

As he ran up the touchline following the goal, the Czech Republic international, who had been withdrawn five minutes before Hamza Igamane grabbed a late winner, aimed the contents of a bottle at home fans.

Rodgers said, “I fully understand the jubilation, and Rangers players have every right to celebrate with their supporters.”

You win a game of that magnitude, you win it, and you celebrate at Celtic Park, as it would happen at Ibrox. But not in that manner.”

Barry Ferguson, the interim manager of the Rangers, stated on Thursday that Cerny was “wee a little overexcited,” adding, “I have no issues with that.”

Rodgers made it abundantly clear that he would not support similar behavior.

He continued, “It’s respect, isn’t it? ” If a player squirts a water bottle in a supporter’s face while running up a touchline, I believe that’s a lack of respect. My players wouldn’t want them to do it, in my opinion.

Listen, it works both ways: players are receiving a lot from the fans, coaches, managers, and players as well.

“But I believe there is a line that we must cross, as a whole. It’s a very emotional game, and it’s a fantastic fixture. I think it was great to have the [away] fans back, because that added that extra bit.

The runaway league leaders’ 3-2 victory over Rangers at Celtic Park marked their first domestic home defeat of the season.

Rangers, who won the derby at Ibrox in January with a 3-0 lead, also had a second successive success.

We haven’t started well in either of those Rangers games, Rodgers continued.

I’m not sure whether it is a subconscious thing. 13 points and 16 points have been clarified.

“Whether that has a significant impact on how you play the game, or not, because our motto is always to start very quickly.

“But we didn’t,” and Rangers deserve praise for it. We had to respond after they had 2-0, and then they had to come back. However, we shouldn’t let the ball fall in that second half. It’s really that easy.

“The analysis is fairly simple, but I have to do better the next time,” he said.

Rodgers continued, “The outcome obviously disappointed us. I can’t help but think about the work this team has done this year.

We’ve been fantastic for a lot of the season, and we’re now 13 points clear.

Heavyweight Wilder to return against Herndon in June

On June 27 in Wichita, Kansas, Deontay Wilder, the former heavyweight champion, will face Tyrrell Herndon, who is largely unknown.

Wilder held the WBC title from 2015 to 2020 and was once the most feared puncher in world boxing.

The 39-year-old American has won 43 fights, including 42 knockouts, four losses, and one draw, after Tyson Fury defeated him in an electric trio fight.

Six months after Joseph Parker’s point loss, Zhilei Zhang stopped him in June.

Wilder’s attempts to reclaim the title of world champion were hampered by those defeats, which also scuppered plans for the long-awaited fight against British Anthony Joshua.

The Bronze Bomber will face American Herndon, 37, who has won 24 fights and lost five of his. Wilder’s team confirmed to BBC Sport.

London Irish return on course despite death of Jordan

Despite Eddie Jordan’s passing, his son claims, London Irish are on track for a 2026 return.

Last month, a consortium led by Jordan managed to remove the Exiles from the government.

Jordan, who had aggressive prostate cancer, passed away on March 20 in Cape Town, South Africa. He was 76.

“Our approach is still in place. Nothing has changed in our quest to return to competitive rugby by September 2026, according to interim London Irish CEO Kyle Jordan, son of Eddie Jordan.

Six days before Jordan’s passing, London Irish announced their intention to return to the fan ownership model in 2026.

The purpose of “building something lasting”

“London Irish never involved just one person.” Our goal is and will always be to create something that is rooted in Irish identity, global ambition, and community, Kyle said in a LinkedIn statement.

“While Dad was a major factor in this journey, our plans were always to move with him in the background,” said one.

Michael Schumacher, the seven-time world champion, made his debut in 1991 with Jordan’s Formula 1 team, which won four grand prix in 15 years.

Following the Irishman’s death, tributes were received from all over the motorsport industry, with his son describing his “huge” loss.

Through competition, culture, and unwavering belief, Kyle continued, “He was my mentor, my hero, and the person who helped shape how I see the world.”

The club has since been inactive, players moving on, and so far.

Wasps and Worcester also stopped operating during the same time.

Irish applied to join the expanded Championship for the 2025-26 season along with Wasps and Worcester.
