Northern Ireland’s job ‘certainly not done’ – Oxtoby

Pacemaker
Bosnia and Herzegovina vs. Northern Ireland in Nations League Group B1.

Date: Tuesday, 3 June, Kick-off: 18:00 BST

Tanya Oxtoby, manager of Northern Ireland, claims that the “job’s done” in the Nations League are “surely not overdone.”

Northern Ireland travels to Bosnia-Herzegovina with the knowledge that a win or draw would place them in a League A team’s promotion play-off.

However, if the Bosnians were to lose in Group B1, they would have to go through a number of combinations.

In the past year, NI have defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina in a dramatic 3-2 victory in the reverse Nations League game.

By no means do we anticipate just showing up here and expecting the end result, Oxtoby said.

“We need to make sure we are completely focused and that we can travel 100 mph.”

A promotion play-off against a League A side would be a good reward for the effort Oxtoby put in, despite the fact that it had been a “tough campaign.”

“I’d just be so happy for them because this window has been a really, really tough window,” said the player. “From a staff standpoint and a player’s perspective, I.

It’s also been a difficult campaign, and it’s the most satisfying thing to get paid for my efforts.

Oxtoby predicts her young squad will be “right up for it” in Zenica following the defeat on Friday, when Poland punished the hosts in a brutal first half.

We are aware of Bosnia’s threats and what we are trying to do in the future.

“We can only concentrate on ourselves, try to carry out what we’re trying to do, and give ourselves every chance to get the desired result.”

We are aware that we are in a very good position to influence our own destiny because the ball is in our court.

UK threatens to sue Abramovich over Chelsea sale

To ensure that the proceeds from the sale of the Chelsea Football Club go to Ukraine, the UK government has threatened to sue Roman Abramovich.

Since the sale, the £2.5 billion in proceeds have been frozen in a UK bank account, with Mr. Abramovich sanctioned in February 2022 as a result of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine.

The money will go to “all victims of the Ukrainian war,” according to Mr. Abramovich, but the UK government wants it to go to “all victims of the Ukrainian war.”

They stated that their goal was “to ensure people in Ukraine who are suffering in this country can benefit as soon as possible.”

Following Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion, the government is determined to use the proceeds from the sale of Chelsea Football Club to aid humanitarian efforts in Ukraine.

We are “deeply frustrated” that there hasn’t been any progress toward reaching an agreement with Mr. Abramovich.

The UK government and his attorneys disagree over how long the funds have been delayed in releasing them.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Mr. Abramovich, a billionaire from Russia who made his fortune in oil and gas, was given a special license to sell Chelsea, as long as he could demonstrate that he would not profit from the sale.

He has denied having any direct ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Under UK sanctions, he is unable to access the $2.5 billion sale proceeds, but it still legally belongs to him.

When he made the announcement to sell the club, he stated that the proceeds from the sale would go to a foundation “for the benefit of all victims of the Ukrainian war, including those who are still living in Russia.”

The UK government has reacted and argued that the funds should only be used for humanitarian projects inside Ukraine.

The unfaithfulness of Mr. Abramovich’s promise to use the funds to support Ukraine was described as “unintelligible,” according to a House of Lords committee last year.

Draper rues ‘missed opportunity’ after Bublik loss

French Open 2025

Location: Roland Garros, May 25 – June

After being unexpectedly defeated by world number 62 Alexander Bublik, British Open champion Jack Draper claims he had a “missed opportunity” to reach the quarter-finals.

The 23-year-old received a reality check when Bublik, the second-lowest player in the draw, won 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, and 6-4.

The maverick Kazakh produced one of his best performances of his career, but Draper lost his way.

Draper, who has never won a French Open match before this year, described it as “a really tough loss.”

“It’s been a steep learning curve for me, despite the fact that I’ve improved significantly this year and achieved a high ranking.

The British number one was largely anticipated to keep up his explosive rise on clay and advance to a potential quarter-final against Jannik Sinner, who had earlier defeated Andrey Rublev in the last 16 match.

However, Bublik made numerous spectacular shots, particularly using the drop-shot to great effect, in his perfect victory.

Draper’s worst ranking loss since his first-round exit at Roland Garros last year.

After a tense finish, 27-year-old Bublik eventually crossed the line after being only allowed to lose one match point and save five break points.

According to Bublik, who was ranked as high as 17th in 2024, “Sometimes there is only one chance, and today, I believe it was mine.”

I was unable to let it go. It’s probably the best time of my life, in my opinion.

A sign of progress is draper disappointment.

How far Draper has come in the last year is reflected in a shock loss in Roland Garros’ last 16.

The Englishman still figuring out what his most effective game style was after a humiliating first-round defeat to the 176th-ranked Dutchman Jesper de Jong in Paris a year ago.

Draper realized he was trying to be too aggressive and sought a better balance.

Prior to the US Open semi-finals, he had his first ATP title just a few weeks later, which increased his self-assurance.

A significant factor in this was the increase in fitness.

He quickly set about using his most potent tools, first serve and forehand, on the clay after earning the biggest title of his career on the Indian Wells’ hard courts in March.

The fifth seed played maturely in his first three matches in Paris before being thrown off-kilter by Bublik, which showed he had the ability to succeed on the surface.

I find it difficult to put things into perspective, but I’m proud of what I did on the clay. “Draper said, “I think I’ve really improved.

I’ve qualified for the fourth round and am consistently playing really good tennis week in and week out, which means I’m leaving number five in the world this year.

How Draper was “extremely uncomfortable” by Bublik.

Bublik’s talent is unquestionable, but his application has received numerous questions.

Before Draper applied pressure in the tenth game, he was unbroken from the beginning of an evenly matched opening set where neither player had a chance to break.

Draper had the opportunity to serve out the opening set but Bublik stumbled, and the Briton took his.

However, Bublik recovered from an early break down to level the match when Draper’s level dropped in the second set.

In the third set, Draper appeared increasingly perplexed as he attempted to find a way to increase his lead as a result of the drop-shot’s increasing use and success.

Draper was defeated at his own game when Bublik attempted 37 drop-shots, leading to 12 victories, despite successfully using the tactic in his previous encounter with Joao Fonseca.

However, a bathroom break before the fourth set, as Draper’s serve was broken in the opening game and his late rally prevented him from regaining the lead, was in vain.

“I don’t play many games where I feel as though the situation is beyond my control,” Draper said.

Top players do that, they say. You feel very uneasy and unable to accomplish much because of them. He did that right now.

England to train in tents to replicate World Cup heat

England’s training will include heated tents in order to simulate the conditions that they might encounter at the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Thomas Tuchel and his team are training in Spain’s Girona.

On Saturday, England will face Andorra in a World Cup qualifier before hosting Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground on June 10.

The World Cup’s potential scorching temperatures and high humidity will be examined by the England head coach and the Football Association performance staff during the training camp.

In the conditions that players can expect during the tournament, they will use exercise bikes to conduct fitness tests inside the tents, and their recovery will be evaluated.

Tuchel stated last week that he expects his players to “suffer” in the conditions of the tournament and that he will assess the conditions before hosting the Club World Cup this summer in the United States.

“It’s important to watch matches now in America and at three in the afternoon in Miami,” Tuchel said.

“I’ll check that,” he says. How it appears, and how to properly cool the players before drinking. What choices are available to us.

Because it will be the end of the season, “Let’s see,” it will be very similar. Although the players have an experience, I haven’t seen much of it during the pre-season in Orlando, so I’m surprised if we don’t suffer. This World Cup’s headlines include suffering.

The temperatures at 14 of the 16 stadiums used for the 2026 World Cup have been deemed to be above “potentially dangerous levels” during the competition. More than 80% of the June and July days in the host city of Dallas exceed 28C on average each year.

West Brom confirm Tottenham’s Mason as head coach

Ryan Mason has been named West Brom’s head coach.

Tony Mowbray was fired on April 21 and the Championship side spoke with Mason, 33, last week, who has signed a three-year deal with the Hawthorns.

Mason, who advanced through the club’s academy and played for his boyhood team, will now have to complete his seven-year coaching career at Tottenham.

I’m excited about what we can accomplish together because this is a sizable club with a fantastic infrastructure and a fantastic fan base.

I’ve talked to the board and the club for a while, but I’m now convinced Albion is the ideal place for me to start.

The former Spurs midfielder’s contract was scheduled to expire at the end of June.

West Brom finished last season just outside the play-off spots, so Mason will now attempt to reclaim the title for the first time since 2020-21.

Sam Pooley joins Rangers as the club’s first-team coach and head of performance, while Nigel Gibbs, who joins from Reading, has been appointed Mason’s assistant.

After being fired as first-team manager following Jose Mourinho’s dismissal in 2021, Mason made a significant contribution to Tottenham’s coaching staff before taking over as assistant manager.

Since Antonio Conte’s departure in 2023, he had been a senior member of Tottenham’s senior set-up and has since assumed the role of acting head coach.
