Imperious Sinner triumphs in Paris to regain world number one ranking

Jannik Sinner reclaimed Carlos Alcaraz’ world number one spot after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime in his first Paris Masters competition.

Sinner’s winning streak on indoor hard courts, which dates back to the 2023 Davis Cup Finals, was extended by winning 6-4 7-6 (7-4) against the Canadian.

Before the ATP Finals, which officially kick off on November 9th, the Italian placed 250 points ahead of Alcaraz in the rankings.

Sinner’s victory puts an end to his rivalry with Alcaraz, which has reached stratospheric heights, ensuring that the year-end world number one ranking will move on to the final tournament of the season.

The pair’s success continues with their differing standing on the men’s tour, where they have won the last eight Grand Slam competitions.

The gap between Alcaraz and Zverev, who are second, and third-placed German, (5, 560), is such that they are so dominant that they are superior.

Four-time major champion Sinner remarked, “We both knew what was on the line,” adding that the final was “so intense and we both knew what was going to happen.”

“I’m very happy from my side,” I said. We’ve tried to work on some things, and I’m very happy to see this sort of outcome.

Alcaraz’s 65-week reign as world number one ended with Sinner losing to the Spaniard in the US Open final in September.

He won the Paris title by conceding the fewest games since the event switched to hard courts in 2007 and reclaimed the top spot in style.

The Australian Open and Wimbledon champion was completely untroubled in his quest to win the first set despite only allowing three points in his five service matches.

Sinner was dominant in the rallies, scoring 17 of his first 25 points from the start, and he won 93% of the points on his first serve in the opener.

Auger-Aliassime raised his game, securing numerous break points in the second set before falling 4-3, but Sinner continued to fend off his opponent with opportunities.

Sinner broke through the set to take the first deuce of his career, but the players held out for a tie-break, and despite briefly displaying physical weakness, the pair eventually came out and levelled at 5-5.

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool lost to Briton Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara in the doubles final, winning 6-3, 6-4, to jointly claim their first ATP Masters 1000 title.

We are two very happy, happy boys, Patten said after winning the first five meetings this season against Cash and Glasspool. The best pair in the world right now is Julian and Lloyd.

Alfie Hewett also won the first wheelchair men’s singles title in Paris after defeating fellow Briton Gordon Reid 7-5, 7-4, and 6-0.

Edwards and O’Neil among Wolves contenders

Images courtesy of Getty

One of the first names to be considered for the Wolves manager position is Vitor Pereira, with Rob Edwards and Gary O’Neil.

Following a 10-game winless Premier League season, the team fired Pereira on Sunday.

And the Wolves’ ownership is considering names like Edwards and O’Neil, both of whom have historical ties to the club.

Due to his current employment at Middlesbrough, Edwards might find it difficult to get a job there.

However, it is said that the former Luton head coach, who made over 100 appearances for Wolves during his playing career, is a strong candidate for the position.

As Wolves begin the selection process for a new head coach, the 42-year-old is said to have received board support.

O’Neil, 42, is also emerging as a potential surprise candidate, despite the fact that Wolves fired him in December of last year.

For Edwards, a former first-team coach at Molineux, there hasn’t been a communication with Middlesbrough.

Former England international Carrick, who is out of work and another player reportedly being considered, has not yet been contacted, and Edwards took Michael Carrick’s place at Riverside Stadium in the summer.

Wolves’ eighth top-flight victory came on Saturday against Fulham, who defeated them 3-3.

They are eight points clear of Burnley, who is 17th, at the bottom of the table.

In September, Pereira assumed control of the company and signed a new three-year contract in December 2024.

The Portuguese captioned the Instagram post, “It has been a privilege to lead the Wolverhampton Wanderers and have a special relationship with this team and its supporters.

I want to thank the club’s owners for their support, the players for their hard work and commitment over the past few months, and the entire staff for helping me feel like a member of the family.

Serve fires Sabalenka to crushing win over Paolini at WTA Finals

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Jasmine Paolini to claim the WTA Finals title, earning her the year-end world number one spot.

In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Sabalenka, the reigning US Open champion, won 6-3, 6-1 to defeat the fatigued Italian.

Sabalenka won her 60th game of the year and her 12th against a top-10 opponent when she defeated world number eight Paolini.

Sabalenka, a Belarusian, has spent 63 weeks overall at the top of the world, including 55 consecutive weeks since October, 2013.

After Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek won the opening match, defending champion Coco Gauff takes on fellow American Jessica Pegula on Sunday in the Stefanie Graf Group second match.

Sabalenka has won the title five times in a row, but she hasn’t qualified for the year-end Finals. In 2022, she came in second behind Caroline Garcia.

Paolini, who is the only player competing in both singles and doubles, was absolutely fantastic against the 29-year-old.

Sabalenka produced 24 winners overpowering the agile Paolini and 11 aces in 66% of first-serve points.

Before Sabalenka started winning six games in a row to end the first set and take a 4-0 lead into the second, the pair traded breaks in the first set.

Paolini got on the board and let Sabalenka score, but Paolini didn’t really threaten until the next game when big first serves gave her the lead.

In a 6-3, 7-6 (7-2) victory over Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, third seeds Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Erin Routliffe of New Zealand, won the doubles match.

Victoria Mboko, a 19-year-old Canadian, won the Hong Kong Open 7-5 6-7 (9-11) 6-2 to extend her remarkable year.

Liverpool feelings won’t change, says Alexander-Arnold

Images courtesy of Getty

No matter what kind of reaction he receives when he makes an Anfield return to Real Madrid, Trent Alexander-Arnold claims that his feelings for his former club Liverpool will never change.

On Tuesday, November 4, the Spanish giants take on the Reds in the Champions League league round.

Some Liverpool supporters criticized Alexander-Arnold for allowing his contract to expire before resigning in June for a reportedly reduced price of £8.4 million so he could compete against Real Madrid at the Fifa Club World Cup.

When asked if receiving a positive reception back at Anfield would bring him closure, the 27-year-old full-back replied, “No matter what, my feelings won’t change towards Liverpool.”

“I have memories there that will last a lifetime, and no matter how I’m received,” I said.

Alexander-Arnold was one of three senior Liverpool players entering their final year of contracts last year, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

In April, Van Dijk and Salah both agreed to new two-year contracts, which only led to the spotlight on the England defender.

Disgruntled supporters erected signs outside the ground to question his loyalty to the club, where he had won two league titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the FA Cup, and the Carabao Cup.

The fans decide how I’m received, Alexander-Arnold said. “The club is always my favorite. I’ll always be a club fan. I’ll always be grateful for the opportunities [Liverpool gave me], and everything we accomplished together will be forever with me.

He also stated that he would not celebrate if he scored against Liverpool, and that many of his former teammates kept in touch with him after the Champions League draw was announced.

Alexander-Arnold continued, “I spoke to Robbo]Andy Robertson], Mo [Salah], Ibu [Ibrahima Konate]. They were merely laughing, they said. Everyone was aware of what was going to happen, I believe. We’ll put our best foot forward and focus on playing the best football possible.

After recovering from a hamstring injury in a Champions League match against Marseille on September 16, Alexander-Arnold has only recently returned to the Real Madrid squad.

As 15-time European champions Real, led by another former Reds player in Xabi Alonso, fight for a fourth successive victory in this season’s competition, he is likely to start on the bench against Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold has struggled to fit into the first team, been dropped from the England squad, and has been sidelined due to injury since his Madrid move.

However, he praised Real’s England midfielder Jude Bellingham for assisting him in adapting.

Enderby taken to hospital with suspected neck injury

Following her side’s 2-1 defeat at Tottenham, Liverpool’s Mia Enderby has been taken to the hospital with a suspected neck injury.

After jumping for an aerial challenge, she appeared to land on her neck, and the field was taken away on a stretcher.

Enderby’s injury largely contributed to the 22 minutes of stoppage time that ended the game.

Enderby, age 20, started against Tottenham and has played in all six of Liverpool’s Women’s Super League games this year.

Manager Gareth Taylor claimed he had not spoken to the club’s medical department after the game and that the injury was “not nice to see” despite the manager’s statement in his post-game press conference.

Enderby, who made 42 appearances and scored six goals for Sheffield United during her first two seasons, signed a new two-year deal in the summer.

Taylor hoped that she would be okay, she added. “At one point, I believed she would re-enter and start playing again, but it’s really important that we take care of them because those kinds of injuries happen.”

Marie Hobinger and Sophie Roman Haug, both of whom suffered anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries before the international break, are already out.

Points, pubs and Pereira – why a perfect match at Wolves turned sour

Images courtesy of Getty

Just two points, no pints. Wolves had to call Vitor Pereira’s time at the bar, which was inevitable.

The 57-year-old leaves after just 11 months at Molineux after enjoying going to the pub to celebrate victories with Wolves fans last season.

The result of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat by Fulham, their eighth defeat in ten games, was a performance that saw managers fired and teams relegated.

A team that is currently at the bottom of the Premier League and in a dangerous downward spiral had all the right ingredients: a red card, an own goal, and a loss to a relegation rival.

After a disastrous afternoon in west London, Wolves decided against making a change, and even the club hierarchy was still supporting Pereira even before the weekend.

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

After leading Wolves to safety last season, Pereira only recently signed a new three-year deal 45 days later.

He oversaw a six-game winning streak between March and April and took the place of Gary O’Neil in December last year, O’Neil having presided over another 10-game winless start. The club’s best top-flight run since 1970 was it.

Pereira was nominated for Premier League manager of the year, but problems started to appear in the summer, leading to Pereira now regrets not leaving Molineux at the start of the season.

After finishing 17 points above the relegation zone in 16th place, the former Porto manager, who twice won the Portuguese title, wanted to carry on the success of last season.

He was disappointed not to land first-choice targets, despite the fact that he was unhappy with the planning over transfers. Wolves signed five senior players for around £100 million, but none of them had Premier League experience.

However, he ultimately sanctioned those who did arrive, including striker Tolu Arokodare, and they were typically his choices, including securing Jhon Arias’ signing.

When Nelson Semedo, captain of Wolves, left on a free and Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri, both joined Manchester United and Manchester City, respectively, leaving them for a significant sum of money, leaving them with almost £120 million, including other departures.

After United triggered his release clause, Cunha’s £62 million move set a club record, but Wolves were unable to replace his 15 goals and overall talent.

The Wolves had 63 goals in the previous season, but 32 of those goals were scored by players who no longer play for the club.

The club is considering a change of course and will try to recruit more local players in the future to increase their quota. They also feel like they are entering a new cycle and are aware of the dangers it entails.

Owners Fosun are open to minority investment into Fosun Sports Group, despite the club’s long-term view at Molineux that they can succeed and that even if they are promoted, it can be handled.

However, they may have been distracted from the short-term due to their long-term planning, which has left the club with a second battle with relegation that appears to be over.

After conceding late goals that prevented them from defeating Tottenham and Brighton, the players have become mentally ill.

With 15 minutes left, Wolves lost to a team that appeared to be playing for a point, in contrast to last week’s late 3-2 defeat at Burnley, in which for the first time fans turned on Pereira.

The Clarets’ victory at Molineux resulted in Pereira having lost to all of the promoted sides this season, and those results had a negative impact on the team’s confidence.

One of the reasons for sacking Pereira is thought to be one of the players’ failures, along with the obvious issue of poor results.

After losing to Wolves on Saturday, BBC Sport asked how they could become the only Premier League team to survive with two points from ten games. Pereira was unable to provide a convincing response.

“I don’t have the answer, but I can say that last season, for a team like Wolves, it was possible to win six games in a row,” I said. he stated.

Even for the big teams, it’s very challenging. Six games in a row is challenging to win. My response is this.

After Andre and Joao Gomes were left out of the midfield, Pereira had made the most changes to his starting lineup [31] in the Premier League this season.

Pereira claimed that Wolves needed to be more defensively strong on Saturday, but they conceded after nine minutes, with Ryan Sessegnon making the most of Santi Bueno’s error.

Staff at the Compton training base liked him because he was honest. The club is unlikely to encounter that type of person again because he took the time to get to know the fans and the area, and he helped to coin the adage “first the points, then the pints.”

He struggled for answers at Fulham, which was genuinely sad, but he is now well-versed in what was about to happen.

The only top seven teams in the league’s top seven tiers without a league win this season come after Stamford defeated Stourbridge 3-1 on Saturday in the Southern League Premier League.

Results dictate, and they are now adrift at the foot of the table with little evidence of a dramatic improvement in performance despite executive chairman Jeff Shi’s willingness to be loyal.

Wolves are scheduled to make a Saturday trip to Chelsea, but Under-21 head coach James Collins and Richard Walker, who are the Under-18s’ coaches, have not been ruled out taking over.

The former Olympiacos and Fenerbache manager described the Fulham defeat as his worst performance under his leadership, and a debrief was scheduled for both the head coach and the players on Monday to discuss their feelings.
