The winners would each receive a three-bedroom apartment, according to the President.

Additionally, he made an announcement about the technical team receiving the naira equivalent of $50, 000.

“I thank you for your hard work, enthusiasm, and reminder of the strength of the Nigerian spirit, and I have received this trophy on behalf of all Nigerians. I hereby grant the players and the 11-man technical team the national honor of Officer of the Order of Niger (OON) in the name of a grateful nation.

The women’s team was commended for their valiant and courageous actions by Tinubu.

He thanked them for bringing the spirit of Nigeria to light among the people.

He added that the team’s administration would continue to support them.

You have inspired millions, especially young girls, who now have evidence that their aspirations are achievable and valid, according to the president. You also influenced me.

“A nation’s assets that are the hope of today, tomorrow, and thereafter are a wonderful thing.

You stand up for that hope. We are still inspired by your optimism, and we will continue to support you, encourage the next generation, and support the generations that follow you.

On behalf of the Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governor of Kwara State and the leader of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, donated 10 million dollars to each of the 24 players and the technical team.

Rasheedat Ajibade, the team’s captain, thanked the President earlier for his unwavering support for the team.

She claimed that young girls in particular, especially, should be the recipients of the WAFCON trophy.

According to Ajibade, the squad’s goal is to be the world’s best women’s team.

However, she urged more female football supporters.

Heroines

The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who had earlier flown with the team after they had won their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, received the triumphant players and other team members. &nbsp,

Around 2:26 p.m., the team boarded a chartered flight and arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Fans and government officials, some of whom had waited for hours at the airport to pick up their heroin, greeted the team with a rousing welcome.

The government officials welcomed the team on arrival, including the minister of information Mohammed Idris, Hanatu Musawa, the minister of culture and tourism, and Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the minister of women’s affairs.

Makers of history

The Falcons won 10 straight wins in 10 WAFCON finals on Saturday, going from two goals down to defeat Morocco.

The Moroccan women’s draw first blood in the 13th minute when Ghizlane Chebbak, the tournament’s top scorer, was kindly denied by a loose ball, who did the rest by firing her effort past Chiamaka Nnadozie, the country’s top scorer.

The hosts’ two-goal was then scored through Mssoudy’s low, left-footed shot that was fired in the 28th minute to put the Nigerians’ Mission X in immediate danger.

Morocco’s lead time was 2-0 as both teams came to an end to the first half.

The Super Falcons, however, held on, and the second half was resumed with renewed energy as their pressing and passing were more deliberate.

The Super Falcons were rewarded for their constant pressure in the 63rd minute when Ijamilusi hooked the ball back and hit Benzina.

Nigerians had a glimmer of hope when Okoronkwo quietly found the back of the net.

In the 71st minute, Okoronkwo ran down the right and cut into the area before squaring up in peace with Ijamilusi to bring him home.

Falcons Don’t Enjoy Privileges Like Eagles Yet They Perform – Analyst

Cecelia Omorogbe, a sports analyst, discovered a significant difference between the Falcons’ and Eagles’ comfort and availability. Despite the resources at their disposal, she emphasized the Falcon’s resolve to succeed.

On Monday’s episode of Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, she made a direct comparison between Nigeria’s male and female national teams.

She said, “Resilience is what men need.” They are “absolutely at their disposal.” These girls show up even though they don’t. They play to demonstrate their wealth rather than seek relevance. Women also require women’s support before and after they win.

The Super Falcons won the 10-year Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title last Saturday, putting an end to what the team and staff had called “Mission X,” their tenth African championship championships goal, under great pressure.

The team’s performance was praised as commendable and a result of hunger, resilience, and team unity, according to Omorogbe, Channels TV’s sports correspondent who covered the tournament in Casablanca, Morocco.

She praised head coach Justine Pwanidi Madugu’s ability to change quickly throughout the tournament and his tactical discipline.

Ajibade and the Super Falcons celebrate a goal.

Omorogbe instead thanked each player who had a significant impact on the team’s performance when asked to name her player of the match.

Every girl who played a significant role, she said. She said, “The synergy and the desire to win were present.”

She praised Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade for their maturity and selflessness, as well as Rasheedat Ajibade for their leadership both on and off the pitch. She said, “This is someone who gave the other girls the opportunity to shine.”

She deserves more praise than I would like to give her. She made the comment about Ajibade.

Omoregbe praised Esther Okoronkwo for her contribution in difficult circumstances, claiming that the entire team remained unified even in the face of hostility.

These girls have resilience, they say. She referred to the difficulties the host nation and other nations faced in previous matches as “resilience, hunger.”

She noted that the majority of the current players are unlikely to leave the country soon, which could hold them until at least until the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup or the next WAFCON.

Omorogbe urged deliberate investment in Nigerian women’s football in response to structural gaps.

TIMELINE: How Nigeria’s Super Falcons Won 10th WAFCON Title

The Super Falcons won the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) for the 10th time in a record-extending victory over Morocco on Saturday, falling behind Morocco 2-3.

Morocco blew the Nigerians away in the opening 45 minutes of the game’s 2-0 lead at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium. &nbsp,

The Super Falcons, however, scored three times to win the game 3-1 and silence the once-buzzing home crowd when the second half came back. &nbsp,

The Moroccans’ team, who have now lost back-to-back finals on their own soil, left a bitter aftertaste after the defeat.

However, the victory marked the completion of the nation’s “Mission X,” which was launched in search of its 10th crown. &nbsp,

The Super Falcons only drew once in six matches to claim the championship. &nbsp,

Tunisia vs. Nigeria [3-0] — Oshoala Stars In Opening Win

Asisat Oshoala, Rinsola Babajide, and Chinwendu Ihezuo scored the opening goals in a Group B game that gave Nigeria a 3-0 victory to begin their campaign.

Ihezuo Breaks Mares’ Hearts [Botswana vs. Nigeria]0-1]

The 2018 WAFCON champions faced Botswana, who needed three points to advance to the knockout stages of the competition after that stunning victory over the Carthage Eagles. &nbsp,

The Mares, the tournament’s lowest-ranked team, faced off against the Nigerians, however. Ihezuo fired a close-range shot into the southern Africans in the 89th minute to break them. &nbsp,

Algeria vs. Nigeria [0-0] — Spoils Shared With Les Vertes

With a significantly altered lineup, already qualified Nigeria entered Group B’s final game. For that game, Madugu rested the big names and brought in fresh legs. &nbsp,

At the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca, Algeria performed a defensive masterclass to prevent the Nigerians from losing. &nbsp,

Nigeria vs. Zambia [5-0] — Copper Queens Sink Quarter-Final

The Super Falcons faced Zambia in the quarter-final after finishing Group B winners. The Copper Queens’ title ambitions were reportedly in serious danger when they received seven points in Group A.

Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, Ihezuo, Oluwatosin Demehin, and Florence Ijamilusi scored the Copper Queens, but Nigeria won the game with a score of 5-0. &nbsp,

Super Falcons defeat Banyana Banyana [2-1] — Super Falcons

With that victory, the West Africans will meet South Africa, the country’s then-defending champion, in the semi-finals. The conflict exceeded expectations. Just before halftime, Nigeria took the lead with Ajibade. However, Linda Motlhalo, in the 60th minute, resurrected the Banyana Banyana. &nbsp,

However, in the 94th minute, Michelle Alozie’s cross beat all players and rested in the South African nest. &nbsp,

Morocco vs. Nigeria [2 vs. 3)] — Stage Heroic Comeback for WAFCON winners record

In the 2024 World Football Championship final, the Super Falcons faced Morocco for their evasive showing. The Atlas Lionesses, who lost to South Africa last time out, were aiming for history against a dominant Nigerian side. &nbsp,

In the opening 25 minutes, the North Africans took a surprise lead with a 2-0 lead. Just twelve minutes into the game, Gizlane Chebbak struck sweetly. Twelve minutes later, Sanaa Mssoudy scored the second goal of the day to add to Nigeria’s suffering. &nbsp,

For the first half, things continued to be that way. Before Okoronkwo dispatched a penalty lifeline in the 64th minute, Nigeria appeared to be in danger of losing. Ijamilusi leveled things up in the 71st minute, but the AFC Toronto star turned provider. &nbsp,

After latching onto Okoronkwo’s free kick, Nigeria made a comeback just two minutes before the game. &nbsp,

Nigeria Reaffirm its superiority

The Super Falcons are now ten times champions of the title thanks to that goal. They have only failed to win in three editions—2008, 2012, and 2020. &nbsp,

Spain Deserved Better In Euro 2025 Final, Says Coach

After suffering a humiliating 3-1 penalty defeat by England, Spain coach Montse Tome insisted that her team did not deserve to lose Sunday’s Euro 2025 final.

This team should have received more, I believe. After the game at St Jakob-Park in Basel, Tome said, “We worked so hard for a long time to get here, to the final against a top-level side in England, and I thought the team deserved more, or at least not be left with the feeling we have now.”

After Mariona Caldentey’s 25th-minute opener for Spain, Alessia Russo headed home with just before the hour mark to bring the score to 1-1 after 90 minutes.

After the Spain players, including Aitana Bonmati, did not score in extra time, Chloe Kelly scored the winning kick for England.

Tome, who succeeded Jorge Vilda as coach shortly after Spain defeated England in the 2023 World Cup final, said, “This is sport and in sport you need to accept defeat.”

“I thought we played well in the first half, but their equalizer may have sucked a little down,” he said.

We then had a dominant possession in extra time, but we were unable to win.

Spain, making their first ever European Championship final appearance, overall, had 60% of the possession and had 24 attempts on goal compared to England’s 10. However, they were willing to pay the price for letting the game go.

I believed our team was better, but Tome said, “In football, it’s not always the best team that wins.”

England have played a fantastic game all the way through the tournament.

“They won the penalty-takers who we thought would be most effective, and they got the equalizer before they defended to try to get to penalties,” they said.

Spain’s first penalty was scored by Patri Guijarro, but England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton saved it for Caldentey and Bonmati, and Salma Paralluelo went over with a shot that went wide before Kelly took the lead.

“I had confidence in them, and they all said they were confident.” The players gave everything, according to the coach, who can score or miss a penalty in the end.
