APC National Secretary Denies Alliance With Aregbesola

Ahead of the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has denied reports suggesting that he is in talks with former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to support a joint political interest.’

In a statement issued by the spokesperson of his campaign organisation, the reports (not by Channels Television), was described as false.

According to the statement, claims that the APC National Secretary reached out to Aregbesola for reconciliation and possible alliance were baseless.

It further stressed that such a move was unimaginable, especially as Aregbesola was no longer a member of the APC.

Love Island fans enraged over Shakira’s odd 9 to 5 comment just minutes in

Love Island viewers were quick to respond to a comment made by Shakira Khan on the launch episode of the ITV2 show’s new series, which kicked off earlier tonight

Viewers reacted to a comment just minutes into the launch of Love Island’s new series tonight. They shared their confusion over the remark which came as two islanders were getting to know each other after entering the villa.

The original line-up includes twelve islanders who have now been introduced on the ITV2 show. They were seen entering the villa in Majorca on the launch episode of the reality TV show this evening, hosted by presenter Maya Jama.

Shakira Khan, 22, and Meg Moore, 25, were among the first to enter the villa. Just minutes into the episode, they were seen getting to know each other ahead of potentially spending several weeks over the summer as co-stars.

Whilst discussing their jobs back home, Shakira said to the other islander: “You’re too glamorous to do a nine-to-five.” Asked to guess what Meg did, she added in the scene: “I feel like it’s something interesting. Go on, I’ll never guess.”

Meg then revealed: “So I do payroll. I’m a payroll specialist.” Shakira reacted: “She’s a corporate girly.” Meg agreed, with her heard saying back to her: “I’m a corporate girl.”

Shakira went on to share that she herself works in sales and marketing. She however told Meg that she also dresses up as a princess on weekends, revealing that she has a second job as an entertainer at children’s parties.

Fans were quick to react to Shakira’s comment on X, formerly known as Twitter. One person wrote: “Not too glamorous for a 9-5, oh dear.” Another questioned in their response: “Too gorgeous to do a 9-5??? What does that mean.” A third person posted: “What does ‘too glamorous to do a 9-5 even mean?”

Later in the episode, there was further reference to 9 to 5 jobs from Shakira whilst the girls reviewed profiles for the boys. It came whilst discussing Harry Cooksley, who had described himself as a commodities trader in his profile.

Questioning what the job title meant, Shakira said: “I feel like that’s a bit of a 9 to 5.” Asked if she’s a fan of that, she said: “No.” Shakira then clarified that she likes partners who “graft” but isn’t keen on “corporate boys”. She added: “The finance bros.”

One person reacted: “Second time someone’s basically scuffed at people who work a 9 to 5. Not a great start is it.” Another said: “What’s Shakiras issue with a 9-5?” Someone else wrote: “Not the babe hating on a 9-5???”

Another said: “Watching Shakira slag off 9-5 jobs as if she isn’t an entertainer.” One viewer teased: “Shakira’s ick being someone with a 9-5 makes zero sense cause that’s like every guy in the world.”

Maya revealed that the first coupling up ceremony would be “slightly different” this year. She told the girls, who entered the villa first, that they would get to review dating profiles of the six boys and then each choose their favourite.

Love Island continues tomorrow night on ITV2 and ITVX from 9pm.

Police Kill Seven Kidnappers, Arrest Five Suspects In Delta, Kaduna

The Nigeria Police Force says it has killed seven suspected kidnappers and arrested five alleged armed robbers in separate raids across Delta and Kaduna states.

Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this in a statement on Monday, referencing the force’s intensified intelligence-led strategies and collaboration with local security outfits.

According to the statement, on June 4, 2025, operatives of the Delta State Police Command, acting on intelligence and supported by local vigilantes and anti-cult volunteers, engaged suspected kidnappers along the Abraka Railway axis.

It said the encounter resulted in a fierce gun duel, during which four suspects were neutralised. One AK-47 rifle and thirteen rounds of live ammunition were recovered at the scene.

In a separate operation along the Ughelli–Patani Road, the Command’s CP-Special Assignment Team intercepted a shuttle bus near Ewhereni Junction.

The occupants reportedly opened fire on the police in an attempt to flee, prompting a gun battle that led to the neutralisation of three more suspects.

Officers recovered another AK-47 rifle loaded with eighteen rounds of live ammunition. Preliminary investigations revealed that the group was part of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in the state.

The statement added that, in Kaduna State, police operatives apprehended five suspected armed robbers linked to a criminal syndicate believed to have been terrorising residents for some time.

The arrests followed the recovery of a Toyota Hilux vehicle stolen on 28th May 2025 from the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja.

One of the suspects, Mohammed Kabir from Samaru Gusau in Zamfara State, was captured after a high-speed chase near Zaria town. Further investigations led to the recovery of a Toyota Camry abandoned near the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway.

Additionally, a Honda CR-V was recovered following the arrest of one Emmanuel Oliseh, who reportedly stole the vehicle in Abuja.

The statement noted that a separate stop-and-search operation led to the interception of a 1998 model Toyota Camry, with three occupants — Ibrahim Bala, Abdulsalam Abdullahi, and Abdulraman Muktar — confessing that the vehicle was stolen from Nasarawa State.

Commending the officers involved, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun lauded their response to intelligence. The statement added that he emphasised the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the public, urging citizens to continue providing timely information to support efforts at safeguarding communities.

English breaks Irish record in 800m win in Netherlands

Mark English became the first Irishman to break one minute 44 seconds in the 800m as he produced a superb run at the FBK Games in the Netherlands.

The 32-year-old recorded a new national record time of 1:43.92 in a brilliant win in the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series on Monday.

That beat the record he had set just 10 days ago of 1:44.34 as he won in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

The two performances were an improvement on the previous record he also set of 1:44.53 in June 2024 in Madrid.

Monday’s win is the Donegal athlete’s third outdoor victory of the season after he also won at the Sound Running Track Fest meet in Los Angeles last month.

In March, English also won a European 800m bronze to take his European medal tally to five.
