Main Doctor Charged In Actor Matthew Perry Overdose To Plead Guilty

The main doctor charged in connection with the drug overdose of “Friends” star Matthew Perry is expected to enter a guilty plea in the coming weeks, the US Justice Department said Monday.

Salvador Plasencia “has agreed to plead guilty to four counts of distribution of ketamine, which carries a statutory maximum sentence of 40 years in federal prison,” the department said in a statement.

The second doctor in the case, Mark Chavez, pleaded guilty last October to conspiring to distribute ketamine in the weeks before the actor was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in 2023.

Perry’s lengthy struggles with substance addiction were well-documented, but his death at age 54 sent shockwaves through the global legions of “Friends” fans.

A criminal investigation was launched soon after an autopsy discovered he had high levels of ketamine — an anesthetic — in his system.

Plasencia allegedly bought ketamine off Chavez and sold it to the American-Canadian actor at hugely inflated prices.

“I wonder how much this moron will pay,” Plasencia wrote in one text message presented by prosecutors.

He went to Perry’s home to administer ketamine by injection, according to a plea deal published Monday by the Justice Department.

In total, Plasencia distributed 20 vials of ketamine over a roughly two-week period in autumn 2023, the document said.

Perry had been taking ketamine as part of supervised therapy for depression.

But prosecutors say that before his death he became addicted to the substance, which also has psychedelic properties and is a popular party drug.

Dark struggle

Five people have been charged over Perry’s death.

Jasveen Sangha, the alleged “Ketamine Queen” who supplied drugs to high-end clients and celebrities, is charged with selling Perry the dose that killed him. She has pleaded not guilty.

Perry’s live-in personal assistant and another man pleaded guilty last August to charges of conspiracy to distribute ketamine.

Comedic television series “Friends,” which followed the lives of six New Yorkers navigating adulthood, dating and careers, drew a massive global following and made megastars of previously unknown actors.

Perry’s role as the sarcastic man-child Chandler brought him fabulous wealth, but hid a dark struggle with addiction to painkillers and alcohol.

In 2018, he suffered a drug-related burst colon and underwent multiple surgeries.

In his 2022 memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry described going through detox dozens of times.

“I have mostly been sober since 2001,” he wrote, “save for about sixty or seventy little mishaps.”

Kim Woodburn’s co-star Aggie breaks silence on death of ‘tormented soul’

Kim Woodburn’s former co-star Aggie MacKenzie has broken her silence following the death of the How Clean Is Your House icon.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Aggie said: “Kim was a tormented soul, but now she’s finally at peace. We clashed often. Behind the fierce persona was deep pain and incredible strength. She survived because she had to. I hope she’s resting now. She was an unforgettable woman.”

The TV star, who shot to stardom for her no-nonsense attitude and witticisms on Channel 4’s How Clean Is Your House with Aggie, died on Monday. Her beloved husband-of-46-years Peter, who she lived with in their Nantwich, Cheshire home, is “heartbroken” over the loss of his soulmate.

A representative for Kim shared in a statement: “It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved Kim Woodburn passed away yesterday following a short illness.

“Kim was an incredibly kind, caring, charismatic and strong person. Her husband Peter is heartbroken at the loss of his soulmate. We are so proud of the amazing things Kim achieved in her life and career. We kindly ask that Kim’s husband and close friends are given the time and privacy they need to grieve. We will not be releasing any further details.”

Kim and Aggie fell out years ago and never spoke again. Kim was dubbed the ‘Queen of Clean’ after presenting How Clean Is Your House? on Channel 4 with Aggie MacKenzie from 2003 to 2009 and also had appearances on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

Aggie previously spoke out about their friendship off-screen, describing them as chalk and cheese. She said: “I think we’re chalk and cheese. Because of the friction there was between us, it created this energy and so we knew how to be in front of the camera.

“I mean, most of it was ad lib. We had an idea of the storyline, but we just kind of made it up as we went along. I think for her it’s kind of normal to have conflict and I think that if things are calm and easy, I think she found that quite difficult. That’s not me, I like it easy peasy. There were lots of highs, and a few lows.”

Aggie recalled how they fell out when doing panto in Brighton and said she “lost her rag”.

“We were doing panto in Brighton. I was so shocked and upset and angry. I lost my rag with her. I said, ‘You’ve really overstepped the mark now! We carried on working together for quite a while but the only speaking we did was on camera. It had all come to a bitter end. We’ve never spoken since,” she said of their explosive fall out.

Aggie said she was frightened of Kim. She explained: “We were never friends. Far from it. Kim was such a big, damaging part of my life. I feel she almost destroyed me. I know that sounds extreme but she was this massive powerful figure.

“I was frightened of her. Everyone was. It’s like any bully – they push and push and push. There were no boundaries, no limitations. It was as if Kim felt more entitled to the job, status and money than me. She was the ‘main man’ and the show could not go on without her. I was ordinary and dispensable.”

Speaking to the Mirror in 2019, Kim had said: “I have never said anything derogatory about Aggie and I am not going to start now. I am unclear where these false allegations have come from but I wish her all the luck in the world.”

‘Completely unprofessional of me’ – Sabalenka apologises to Gauff

Aryna Sabalenka says she wrote to Coco Gauff to apologise for her “completely unprofessional” remarks after the American beat her in the French Open final.

World number one Sabalenka put in an error-strewn performance in a 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 6-4 loss to Gauff earlier this month.

The Belarusian said afterwards it was the “worst final I ever played”, adding: “I think she won the match not because she played incredible [but] just because I made all of those mistakes.”

Speaking 10 days on from the Paris final, Sabalenka said she “absolutely regretted” her remarks.

“That was just completely unprofessional of me. I let my emotions get the better of me,” the 27-year-old told Eurosport Germany.

“I’m just a human being who’s still learning in life. I think we all have those days when we lose control.

Sabalenka, a three-time Grand Slam singles champion, has lost both of the major finals she has reached this year.

She lost to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final, where she was two-time defending champion, before the defeat by Gauff.

She committed 70 unforced errors against Gauff, one of the best defenders on the women’s tour, and struggled to keep her composure.

“I was super emotional and not very smart at that press conference,” Sabalenka added.

“It took me a while to revisit it, to approach it with open eyes and to understand.

“I realised a lot about myself. Why did I lose so many finals? I kept getting so emotional.

“So it was a tough but very instructive lesson for me.”

Spurs in touch with stranded Israel winger Solomon

Getty Images

Tottenham are in regular contact with winger Manor Solomon after the midfielder was left stranded in Israel because of the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The 25-year-old Israel international married long-term partner Dana Voshina in his homeland last Thursday.

However, the couple have been unable to leave the country after the Israeli military closed airspace to civilian traffic following aerial attacks from Iran last week.

Solomon, who spent last season on loan at Leeds United, is due to return to pre-season training with Spurs in early July.

“We are constantly in regular dialogue with all our players regarding their wellbeing and welfare,” a Tottenham spokesperson said.

The midfielder joined Spurs from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 but made just six appearances for the club before a season-ending knee injury.

After 12 months on loan at Fulham, Solomon joined Leeds United on a season-long loan deal in 2024.

He scored 10 times in 39 Championship matches last season as Leeds were promoted back into the Premier League.

Solomon married partner Voshina last Thursday – 24 hours before Israel’s attack on Iranian nuclear and military sites.

Kim found fame alongside fellow presenter Aggie MacKenzie on Channel 4’s daytime series, How Clean Is Your House? in the 2000s – and she was never shy in stating her opinion in any show she featured on.

Kim passed away following a short battle with illness on Monday (June 16) aged 83, her family has confirmed. “We will not be releasing any further details.”

Kim made her final social media post on Valentine’s Day, meanwhile, offering her Instagram followers the chance to receive personalised videos from her.

Surrounded by teddy bears and wearing a number of gold chains, Kim said: “Right my loves, the usual message, I know it’s boring, but if I don’t tell you, you’ll forget, so open your lug holes. The next time I’ll be doing these videos is on Friday 21st February.

“I hope you’re all ok and keeping well. Thanks so much for asking me to do these videos. They give me such a laugh, thank you very much.”

Responding to the post, her fans told her how much they loved her and how much she made them smile.

Sadly, this was Kim’s last ever post as a message was later posted on her account reading: “We regret to tell you that Kim is unable to record any more videos for the foreseeable future to a health problem.
