Same story emerges twenty-two years later. In terms of their dominance of the rugby league Ashes, Australia returned where they left off.
The Kangaroos opened the scoring against England with their first flowing move of the series after a tense opening 20 minutes of the first series since 2003.
Reece Walsh, a rioting full-back, ran the ball over in style, starting with debutant Mark Nawaqanitawase.
The try was scored following a review by video referee Jack Smith, but it appeared that scrum-half Mikey Lewis had tripped in the build-up.
Before the break, Smith partially redeemed himself by forbidding a second Australia try after Josh Addo-Carr had jumped to catch a high kick before Smith.
The green and gold defense was soon well on their heels when Shaun Wane’s side conceded and George Williams and Tom Johnstone scored the winning kicks.
However, in the final minute of the first half, Cleary added a penalty to give Australia an 8-0 lead, and they kept it going until the break.
With full-back Jack Welsby allowing him to pass far too easily, Angus Crichton strode through after undermining the hosts’ constant pressure from the start.
Australia eased their way to victory in their first encounter since the 2017 World Cup final by keeping England at bay after that.
With 15 minutes left, second row Crichton scythed through the defense once more, adding more gloss when Walsh’s impressive Walsh completed a superb field-length move down the left.
In the final minutes for England, Daryl Clark slammed over, but the result was nothing more than a consolation.
Issah Yeo, the visitors’ captain, was forced to leave in the first half after Young and Young had clashed, and he had a head injury assessment. Next week’s second test at Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool will also be without him.

In a touching family revelation, Motsi Mabuse has opened up about her dramatic transformation and revealed her hopes for her young daughter. Motsi, who’s been a judge on Strictly Come Dancing since 2019, discussed her family life in Germany with husband Evgenij Vozynuk and their five-year-old daughter (whose name remains private).
She reportedly travels to the UK weekly for Strictly before returning home after the results show, but she admitted she “couldn’t do” the job without her husband’s approval as she revealed their touching hopes for their young daughter.
Motsi (who recently opened up about her feelings towards her Strictly colleague) told Yours: “The most important thing in my life is my family. I couldn’t do the Strictly role without my husband, and our focus is always to raise our daughter as a healthy, happy, young black girl. Life is about being with the people you love.”
Motsi continued, “It is crucial to demonstrate your work. Telling my daughter to be independent and able to stand on her own two feet is a good idea.
She also spoke about her attention-grabbing weight loss, which she explained involved exercise and what was termed a complete “overhaul” of her eating habits to help her drop the pounds.
The South African dancer said, “It was about living a healthier lifestyle throughout my entire life. Being a better person is what it is all about because we live in such a crazy world.
Her fitness regime now includes weights and “building muscle”, with the Strictly judge revealing to The Sun’s Fabulous magazine that she’s consuming three particular foods and regularly visiting the sauna.
She stated, “I’m consuming salad, fruit, and nuts.” I visit the sauna three times per week to help lower my cortisol levels. I also believe that taking ice baths benefits my mental well-being.
Motsi, the sibling of former Strictly professional Oti Mabuse, disclosed that regarding the menopause, she’s encountered considerable “fear mongering”, mentioning that her friend, and Strictly head judge, Shirley Ballas, had cautioned her that the journey would be “a ride”.
The celebrity’s striking transformation has also caught the eye of Strictly Come Dancing fans when she returned to the judging panel alongside fellow show legends Shirley, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke last month.
Watchers who were cheered up even took to social media to express their admiration for the judge.
One person questioned, “Doesn’t Motsi look amazing? ” Fantastic weight loss I’ll take some of what she’s spending.
Another person remarked, “Holy s*** Motsi looks absolutely incredible not that she always did but seriously WOW #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly.”

On Saturday night, the world number one and Antrim player will face off in the second semi-final at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall.
With a 125 clearance and break of 124, England’s Lisowski added the next two frames.
Before the mid-session break, Lisowski had a 4-0 lead before the Chinese opponent had a one-hour lead, but a second 125-run run restored the 34-year-old’s four-frame advantage before he cruised to a comfortable victory in the seventh frame.
The 29-year-old world player, who has lost six of his final six games, is aiming for success in the first ranking event.
For the first time since March 2021, he lost to Donald Trump in the Gibraltar Open final. He will participate in a ranking event decider.
In addition to the semi-finals, Lisowski defeated Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and four-time world champion Mark Selby in the last 16.
While Allen won the NI Open twice in 2021 and 2022, Trump wants to win the fifth time.

Vicky Pattison, the star of Strictly Come Dancing, revealed how a wardrobe malfunction during rehearsals brought her “honeymoon period” with professional partner Kai Widdrington’s debut season to a quick conclusion.
The former Geordie Shore personality has been showcasing her dancing abilities since September, partnering with Kai Widdrington in pursuit of the prestigious Glitterball trophy.
The 37-year-old humorously described how the “honeymoon period” with Kai abruptly came to an end despite making it through the first round of the competition.
Speaking candidly about the awkward moment on her Get A Grip podcast with Angela Scanlon, the television personality recalled one of her initial dress rehearsals with Kai, when she experienced an unexpected “stress period”.
Vicky said, “I had a stress period the first day. during my rehearsal wearing clothes.
Vicky described Kai’s emergence as a “spinner” who was like “kicking heat packs down my leggings” in an effort to solve the problem. The honeymoon period was over.
The reality star has remained a star on the judging panel despite her and Kai’s challenges throughout the competition so far, earning a respectable 23 points for their Cha Cha Cha performance. The pair’s scores have increased week on week as the weeks have passed.
They received a score of 24 in week two, a 25 the following week, and last week, they received a massive 29 in the Samba dance competition.
Vicky has become the latest in a long line of reality TV stars to try their luck in the BBC dancing competition, with previous contestants from the industry having seen mixed success down the years.
One of the latest reality TV stars to compete in the show, Tasha Ghouri, made history, as she became only the second member of the deaf community to take part, following in the footsteps of actress Rose Alying-Ellis.
Strictly fans were left stunned earlier this week after Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman brought an end to their time on the show, captioning a joint post on Instagram, saying: “We have loved working as a duo and hosting Strictly has been an absolute dream. We were always going to leave together and now feels like the right time.
We just want to say a huge thank you to the BBC and to everyone who volunteers for the show, saying “we will have the greatest rest of this amazing series.”

They continued, “We’ll miss them every day because they’re the most brilliant team.” When we say the final “keep dancing,” we will cry, but we’ll keep saying it to one another. Just possibly while eating some pizza while wearing tracksuit bottoms at home.
Gorka Marquez and Gemma Atkinson first met on Strictly in 2017. Eight years later, the couple, who are engaged, have two children, and have a new podcast, reveal the “beautiful chaos” of it all…

After just a short time in their company, it’s clear they’re very different as people, but work perfectly together. Radio DJ Gemma Atkinson, 40, and pro dancer Gorka Márquez, 35, are an entertaining double act, with Gemma’s straight-talking, northern humour and Gorka’s quiet, laidback Spanish charm. The couple, who got engaged in 2021, are based in Manchester, but Gorka often travels for work — this year he’s regularly in Spain, as a judge on the Spanish version of Strictly .
The pair met when Gemma took part in Strictly in 2017. Their relationship was a slow burn, but they fell for each other and are now parents to two children, Mia, six, who was recently diagnosed with epilepsy, and two-year-old Thiago. Elements of navigating their daily lives often get lost in translation (hence the name of their new podcast, Lost In Translation), which makes for some hilarious moments. Here, they open up exclusively to OK! about working together, their little ones following in their footsteps and the habits that annoy each other…

Hello, Gemma and Gorka! This year, are you glued to Strictly?
Gemma: Every Saturday. It’s the proper countdown to Christmas, for us. It’s also a good excuse not have to go out on a Saturday night!
You two were bound to be together, wasn’t it?
Gorka: Oh no, but she actually made me work for it!
Gemma: Nothing good comes naturally, as my mother would put it. It’s always nice to remember how everything began. Since joining Strictly in 2014, I’ve watched the live performances twice, and Elstree always has that warm feeling in my heart.
Gorka: Me and you are the beginning.
Gemma: It’s lovely. Seeing Aljaž [Škorjanec] and Janette [Manrara] with little Lyra-Rose, Neil Jones has Havana, and Dianne [Buswell] is going to have a little one…
Gorka: It’s crazy that Neil and Alja were about to marry when I first started Strictly. Everyone is grown up, including Diane, who I also worked on cruise ships. After a performance, we used to go out, but now we have to return home so we can have breakfast with our kids the following day.
Gemma, you almost didn’t do it; it could be that your life is completely different now.
Gemma: Yes! I initially said no. It was my first job that allowed me to commute in less than 40 minutes while I was working on radio. I was able to continue living my life. My agent called me about two weeks later and said, “Hun, this Strictly thing, can you just think about it?” I knew it had to be rejected. She suggested spending a week there and thinking about it when I went to Jason Vale’s juice retreat. I did it, too.
What caused you to change?
When I got to my room at the retreat, Oprah’s autobiography was on the side table. I picked it up and it fell open to a page with just one big quote, “If you have a chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you choose to dance.” I thought, maybe I’m meant to do this. So I messaged my agent and said yes, I’ll do it. Just don’t ask me again or I’ll change my mind!
Wow, what a moment of real sliding doors…
Gemma: We weren’t aware that Gorks and I were there at the same time a year earlier. The Bahamas was where we were. There is a bar called Seor Frog’s that overlooks the ocean where I went on vacation. A cruise ship is close to shore, and there is a video of me and my friend dancing there.
Gorka: How incredible is it that I worked on that ship?
What details do you have for our new podcast?
Gemma: From our reality TV show, we had lovely feedback about how normal, mundane tasks and chaotic school runs could turn into something fun and relatable. So Lost In Translation is like an audio version of that. Each week, we each message our producer individually about what’s annoyed us about each other and then have a debate about it.
You also help each week solve a listener’s conundrum…
Gemma: Yes, we do. A listener by the name of Sophie was the first. She had just moved in with her boyfriend and was experiencing stomach pain because she was afraid to go poo in the apartment! We play silly games, and we look at the differences between Spanish and English.
What degree of chaos does that mix of cultures engender?
Gorka: It always occurs. Gemma would laugh and make me realize that I’m wet p****d through when I used to say, “I’m p***d wet through.”
Gemma: There are no small things. Growing up, I would have chippy tea with gravy or cheese pie every Friday. On chips, vinegar. This absolutely repulses Gorka.
How is a cheese-filled puff pastry pie eaten? !
Gemma: Thiago also adores them. He prefers them over anything else.
Gorka: Gemma doesn’t consume red meat, but I do bring home a sizable Spanish leg of ham at Christmas. Although it’s amazing, Gemma says, “Get that thing out of the house!”
Are the kids studying Spanish?
Gemma and Mia read Spanish together. His father speaks Spanish, and I’m there trying my hardest, “Hola!” as his parents don’t speak English, so when we FaceTime, his father says “Hola!” For children, it’s different. Gorka’s mother last visited Spain, so we could spend a day in Madrid. They were dancing and laughing when we returned four hours later.
Gorka: It’s irrelevant because they were having a wonderful time.
What about each other irritates you?
Gorka: I’m a perfectionist, Gemma’s messy, and I’m a perfectionist.
Gemma: My entire life has been spent folding socks incorrectly. I simply fold them, done. Gorka enjoys them tucked in completely, the bottom to the top, next to each other.
Do Mia and Thiago exhibit any dancing-related traits?
Gemma: They have musicality. Mia has a dancing craze. Thiago already sings in tune, and he has a good ear. He adores The Greatest Showman and plays the drum precisely when it’s needed.

Gorka and I were dancing in the kitchen this morning while we were playing music. I adore those moments.
