He also said, “She was a very sweet lady who dedicated her life to making amends.” I used to make fun of it. I had a lot of fond memories of her.

In 1976, Fawlty Towers won the Bafta for best scripted comedy, and the film celebrated 50 years since the comedy show first aired on television. In the Fawlty Towers stage production, Mia Austen, the performer who plays Sybil, described it as “a privilege” to take on the role Scales made famous.

Oworonshoki: Falana Counters Lagos Govt, Says Court Order Was Duly Served

The attorney general of Lagos, Falana & Falana Chambers, has refuted the attorney general’s claim that neither the Lagos State government nor any of his agencies received an order of court before the most recent demolition exercise in the Ajileru Street, Ososa Extension, and Toluwase Extension, which are located in Lagos State’s Itesiwaju Ajumoni Community Development, in the Oworonshoki Area.

The order was issued on October 23rd, 2025, according to a press release released this evening and signed by a counsel, Taiwo Olanwanle on behalf of the firm, Falana &amp, Falana Chambers. The Honorable Commissioner for Justice’s office received the enrolled order.

Before 3 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, the commissioner of the Lagos State, general manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and copies of the documents that have been given as a formal acknowledgement, respectively.

Our office phone lines were overflowing with calls from customers letting us know that there were more than 50 armed police officers driving heavy-duty vehicles nearby to start a new demolition after some hours of serving the court order.

Our Mr. Femi Falana, SAN called some senior Lagos State government officials, including the current General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, Mr. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, who is now the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, to intervene and forbid the planned property demolition. Mr. Oki threatened that “nothing would happen” if the court order was broken.

“They lack the authority to demolish any property in Lagos State without a court order,” the Lagos State Government presumes, without denying that the government was unaware of the order. As in this instance, acting otherwise amounts to impunity and lawlessness.

According to the statement, “To maintain the integrity of the justice system, state actors must comply with court orders, uphold the rule of law, and uphold democratic stability.”

The organization warned that the Lagos State Government’s failure to adhere to a valid court order can cause chaos and anarchy, erodering public trust in the judiciary system.

In another development, the firm has also requested a meeting for Nov. 13 from the Attorney General and his Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development to help parties determine the best course of action.

The letter also contained a statement from the claimant’s intention to file a lawsuit against the government.

Yale report finds evidence of RSF mass killings in Sudan’s el-Fasher

According to an analysis of satellite imagery viewed by Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab (HRL), the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have carried out numerous mass killings against the group since the city’s demise in Sudan.

El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur in western Sudan, was under the control of the RSF for more than a year and a half. Late on Monday, Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced the withdrawal of his forces from their final stronghold in the wider Darfur region. The paramilitary RSF had taken control of the main Sudanese army base in el-Fasher and won there, but the RSF later declared victory.

According to the HRL report, the fall of El-Fasher resulted from “the carpet-bombing of large sahel sahel by the Sudan Armed Forces, an undetermined number of civilian casualties caused by both sides, and almost 15 months of IPC-5 Famine conditions in areas caused by RSF’s siege of the city.” By reviewing satellite imagery and open-source and remote sensing data from Monday, the HRL made the determination.

According to the HRL, “El-Fasher appears to be participating in a deliberate and systematic process of ethnic cleansing of indigenous non-Arab communities in Fur, Zaghawa, and Berti through forced displacement and summary execution.”

The HRL, aid organizations, and experts have previously warned of mass ferocity and displacement in Darfur, and the RSF has long been accused of attacking non-Arab communities.

According to HRL’s report, images of clusters of objects and ground discoloration were uncovered in images that it believes to be of human nature. The HRL appears to support other reports from aid organizations that reported chaotic scenes on the ground, including arrests, hospital attacks, and killings.

The RSF’s actions “may be in line with war crimes and crimes against humanity (CAH)” and “may lead to genocide,” according to the report.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed and more than 12 million have been internally or have been left in Sudan as a result of the RSF and SAF’s conflict, which started on April 15, 2023. More than ten years after South Sudan’s creation, there are also concerns that Sudan could rescind its relationship.

Katherine Ryan’s husband in ‘traumatic’ fight with knife-wielding burglar

During a terrifying robbery, Kathleen Ryan revealed the details of atraumatic incident when her husband had to evade a knife-wielding burglar from their home.

Katherine Ryan has opened up about a “traumatic” experience she had when she witnessed her husband in a fight with a burgler who had broken into their home with a knife. The Canadian comedian shared the distressing details of her experience in a conversation with her husband, Bobby Kootstra, on her podcast What’s My Age Again?. The incident took place in 2019.

In a clip of the podcast episode uploaded to Instagram, Katherine spoke about what happened. “I think it is very traumatic,” she said. Addressing her husband, she added: “I know that you couldn’t sleep for about a week.”

Bobby then continued, “It was so eerie, because you and I were all it.” He went to their bedroom to get a new shirt because they had been making pasta and he had spilled some red wine on his shirt.

The burglar then dragged a knife at him, which he then tackled. “The knife kind of came out, and I’m like, “Whoa, whoa, whoa.” The burglar threatened to kill Bobby, according to Kathy.

A police car was passing by as the fight progressed to the street. When the burglar fled, Bobby led the officer away and chased him.

The burglary attempt took place the year Katherine and Bobby started a civil partnership. In Canada, they first met as teenagers.

However, when Katherine returned to Sarnia, Ontario, to film an episode of Who Do You Think You Are, they reconnected after 20 years of dating.

Katherine announced earlier this year that she and Bobby were expecting a second child. A son born in June of this year and a daughter born in December of that year are already theirs.

On October 18, 2025, their third child was born. Another child was born in 2008, according to Katherine.

Super League in danger of ‘train crash’ – NRL chief V’landys

The head of Australia’s NRL has warned that Super League will experience a “train crash” if it doesn’t find ways to increase its revenue.

The Australian Rugby League Commission’s chairman, Peter V’landys, told BBC Sport that the elite game in England needs to consider changing its governance structure.

He also disputed Super League’s lack of London Broncos in the upcoming season’s competition, saying that it had missed a significant marketing opportunity. He also questioned how it would long-term support an expanded 14-team structure.

On Tuesday in London, V’landys met with a number of Super League clubs and the RFL’s governing body.

He also stated that it was “an option” for the NRL to take a stake in Super League despite the fact that Warrington owner Simon Moran and his Wigan counterpart Mike Danson had asked him to “assist” the English game.

However, one of the most influential Australian sports figures in an exclusive interview said any investment depended on “independent decision-making,” and he also refuted the notion of the NRL setting up its own competition in Europe.

V’landys believes English rugby league is a strong product, but he worries about its business plan, with the current UK television broadcast deal set to expire at the end of the 2026 season.

If they don’t receive the broadcast revenue required to sustain a 14-team competition, he said, “All we’ve done is analyse the financial viability and I can see a train crash.”

“And it all comes down to the finances,” he said, “because eventually people stop wanting to put money in their pockets and suffer losses, and that’s what they’re going to be doing in the near future, unless they can increase their broadcast revenue.”

The RFL and RL Commercial, the organization that controls its commercial rights, confirmed they were present at Tuesday’s meeting with Super League clubs and V’landys and NRL CEO Andrew Abdo.

V’landys added that any deal would need to be made with the establishment of an independent governing body even though there is no specific offer in place for the NRL to buy into Super League.

When questioned about the NRL acquiring a stake in the Super League, he responded, “We could.” If that’s what they want us to do, that’s a choice.

For that to occur, structural corporate governance must be altered. One of the factors that has helped Australia win in rugby league is that you need an independent body to run the competition. It is entirely independent.

You must have “self-assured decision-making,” because it always serves the interests of the game as a whole and not just for individual interest groups.

We’re only here to listen to Mike Danson and Simon Moran because we’re loyal to them, and if there is a way to help, we’ll help. However, we are not here to impose our will on anyone or participate in anything. We’re here to listen and, hopefully, be able to assist.

Australia defeated England 26-6 on Saturday at Wembley in front of a record-setting crowd of 60, 812 spectators, in a Rugby League Ashes Test.

He contends that is evidence of the interest in the sport in England, but that he thinks the authorities have not done anything to improve the situation, suggesting a city like London should have a Super League team.

The London Broncos, who have Kangaroos legend Darren Lockyer among their backers, were unable to join the recently expanded Super League for the next season.

Instead, an independent panel chose Toulouse and York to join them after Bradford Bulls were promoted earlier this month at the expense of Salford Red Devils under the competition’s grading system.

Prior to the announcement, the Broncos had already signed former Australia international Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Tonga hooker Siliva Havili for the following seasons. They also had already signed former South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou on a three-year deal to become their head coach.

London ought to have been the first choice, according to V’landys, because it is necessary to market something to a thriving city.

You must increase your revenues, they say. Sponsors would be interested in London. And they have, in any case, lacked that opportunity in this round. So, yes, they must be able to market the game more effectively than they currently are because they lack the structure to advance the product.

When asked about the addition of 14 teams to Super League, V’landys responded, “Are they going to receive additional broadcast revenue?” Do they anticipate receiving more eyeballs? Do they expect additional participation? That hasn’t been explained.

There is no plan, they say. They must have a strategy and a roadmap for the upcoming ten years. Because 10 years is approaching so quickly, you’re going in the opposite direction without any discernible purpose.

Listen to the podcast about the top 10 players in rugby league.

We’ll be giving them and they’ll be giving us, according to the statement.

V’landys has stated that NRL investment in Super League will bring the two sports closer together.

He said, “Ideally, you’d have the club in Australia and a brother or sister club in England, where they share the resources, the players, and so on. “

When asked whether that meant Super League clubs acting as feeder clubs, he replied, “No, no, no. I wouldn’t be disputing that one person is stronger than the other. They will be receiving us, and we will also be receiving them. It’s a two-way street.

So some of our young, emerging players could play in the Super League to develop, and some players could play in the NRL to develop. Therefore, it is not a feeder club. It is “sharing the resources.”

V’landys is adamant that any interest NRL may have in English rugby league would not result in the establishment of a separate European competition.

” No, “he said”. It’s philosophical to us. England should be strong, we want it. England must be as strong as possible if you want to have a global game. We don’t want them to wilt, therefore. We want their success to be seen.
