Victoria Beckham says documentary is like ‘a year’s therapy’ after eating disorder admission

The former Spice Girl star turned fashion mogul Victoria Beckham looks back over the ups and downs of life in a three part series for Netflix, following her husband’s docuseries

Victoria Beckham has claimed making her new Netflix documentary is the equivalent to “a year of therapy” after she spoke about her past demons for the first time.

The former Spice Girl and fashion designer opens up about her eating disorder and business failures for the cameras. And far from finding it traumatic, Victoria believes the process has changed her for the better.

Victoria, 51, said: “When I did my master interviews, of which there were quite a few, it was the first time I’ve ever been forced to look back. Sometimes it made me smile, sometimes it was frustrating because I’m trying to remember things that maybe I’ve blocked out, there’s a few triggers along the way. This has been like a year’s therapy for me. I feel that I went into this process calling myself a control freak and I’ve come out the other end a reformed control freak. I haven’t had the control with this documentary that I have with most elements of my life, and I feel much more content coming out the other end.”

Victoria also said in the interview to accompany the Netflix documentary that she hopes her story can inspire others.

She said: “When I reflected on not just the Spice Girls, but my family growing up, my journey from when I was very small, I really was an underdog. If my story can inspire anyone along the way, to really not take no for an answer, to believe in themselves, not be afraid of the hard work, understand that you’re going to get knocked.

“I’ve been knocked so many times and I just bounce back up again and that doesn’t come without its challenges on you physically, mentally, emotionally, so I’d say I’ve been very honest about all of these things.”

The three part Netflix series sees Victoria and husband David discuss some areas of her life for the first time in depth.

Looking back to one tough time, Victoria said: “I really started to doubt myself and not like myself, you know, and because I let it affect me, I didn’t know what I saw when I looked in the mirror.

“You lose all sense of reality. I was just very critical of myself. I didn’t like what I saw. I’ve been everything from porky posh to skinny posh. I mean, you know, it’s been a lot, and that’s hard. I had no control over what was being written about me, pictures that were being taken.

“And I suppose I wanted to control that, you know, I could control it with the clothing. I could control my weight, and I was controlling it in an incredibly unhealthy way. When you have an eating disorder, you become very good at lying.

“And I was never honest about it with my parents. I never talked about it publicly. It really affects you when you’re being told constantly you’re not good enough, and I suppose that’s been with me my whole life.”

The three part series follows Victoria from the teenager who restyled her school uniform, to the Spice Girl who fought to be accepted by a notoriously demanding fashion industry.

How Broncos and ‘play-dough’ quarterback can end Chiefs’ reign

NFL 2025 season: Week six

It’s week six in the NFL season and, after talking last week about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both lost their unbeaten records.

Notable in those games was the amount of penalties both conceded. The Eagles did so in key moments so they kind of beat themselves having led 17-3 going into the final quarter against the Denver Broncos, who play in London this Sunday.

But it was good to see that Denver quarterback Bo Nix was able to have that deficit and then lead three scoring drives on three possessions in the fourth quarter, to win the game 21-17.

Denver have the defensive player of the year in cornerback Pat Surtain II. They are number one in red zone defence, while the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, and the Broncos won that battle.

They had the Eagles’ number in terms of simulated pressure. They weren’t necessarily sending more than four [pass rushers] but they might plug two linebackers in the ‘A’ gap then drop them out and send a nickel off the edge.

New tight end Evan Engram has stepped up big and new running back JK Dobbins is a guy they believe in. He’s currently fifth in the NFL for rushing yards (402) and tied-fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).

I love that head coach Sean Payton has “RUN IT!” at the top of his playcall sheet.

That shows how the Broncos are a team that wants to run first, because you can do a lot off the back of that. It slows down the pass rush and keeps you in favourable down and distances.

It’s also helped quarterback Bo Nix, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick last year, throwing 29 touchdown passes – second only to Justin Herbert for the rookie record (31 in 2020).

Josh Allen and Herbert have the arm strength to throw anywhere, but they don’t move in the same way as Nix. He has incredible arm talent, which is different, and he is so athletic.

His strengths are his mobility, being able to throw on the run, and finding different arm angles to make the pass when he rolls out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He can throw that layered pass across the middle or over the corner.

For a young quarterback, at 25, he’s got a lot of poise in the pocket and isn’t really fazed by the blitz. He tries to avoid a sack as much as possible and is able to throw under pressure. He has a high football IQ and is very decisive.

When you constantly run the ball it eats up the clock and forces the defence to be on the field for longer, and when you’ve got an athletic quarterback the defence has to cover the field vertically and horizontally. It can be exhausting.

Nix has bitten back at Payton on the sideline sometimes and I think the coach likes that attitude, that he’s such a competitor. I think it’s fun for him to have a young quarterback who’s kind of like play-dough. He can really build something up the way he wants to build it. I think it’s a special experience for him.

Payton has won a Super Bowl and now passed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173 – tied 14th overall). He’s seen it all. I think the success Denver are having on offence is mostly down to his leadership, his play-calling, his situational awareness – and the combination with Nix helps make him what he is.

You wouldn’t want a better guy in your ear, to help you through some of the tougher situations and build confidence.

I believe in Denver’s defence, in Bo Nix’s tenacity and composure. But are they good enough to go against an elite team at its best? Because that was not a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles last Sunday.

Right now, I don’t think the Broncos are incredible. They’re working above average, which is a good place to be in their division. All they need to do is maintain this trajectory.

They’re really good at leaning into their strength, which is running the ball, and that’s exactly what they should do against the New York Jets at Tottenham. It’s going to be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.

The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (sixth worst in the league), five rushing touchdowns this season (10th worst), and they’re the only team yet to win a game.

To play this video you need to enable JavaScript in your browser.

After this Sunday’s game, the Broncos have a smooth-ish schedule up to their bye (in week 12) – the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders before the Kansas City Chiefs.

Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 so they could make a run at leading the division.

It depends what version of the Chiefs they face because the Broncos beat their back-ups in the final game of the 2024 regular season, so what can they do against a fully healthy Kansas City?

I’m keen to see if the Broncos can sustain this form because I feel like that’s going to be the next big game that will show if they really can be contenders.

Sharon Osbourne fans in tears by Ozzy birthday gesture in re-surfaced clip

A video has resurfaced online showing Ozzy Osbourne surprising his wife Sharon Osbourne on her birthday, and fans were left in tears by the gesture which has resurfaced on Facebook

A touching gesture from Ozzy Osbourne to his wife Sharon has left fans emotional after a resurfaced video went viral online. The Black Sabbath had always made his love for Sharon clear, and a surprise on her birthday was a real treat. Ozzy, who sadly passed away at the age of 76 on 22 July this year, would always charm fans with his appearances.

The spontaneous moment occurred on a talk show that Sharon was attending, when suddenly one of her husband’s hit songs started playing. The surprise saw Ozzy walk onto the show with a bouquet of flowers for Sharon, who was genuinely taken aback to see the Iron Man songwriter.

Fans were thrilled by the appearance, and even years after the touching moment, viewers are saying it encapsulates the couple’s marriage.

A video has now resurfaced as Sharon celebrates her 73rd birthday today (October 9). It also included a statement suggesting it showed a “softer” side to the Prince of Darkness.

It reads: “Ozzy Osbourne surprises his beloved Sharon on her birthday during a women’s talk show – a gesture that showed the softer side of the Prince of Darkness.”

Fans were moved to tears by the video, with the poignant clip recently shared online. One person wrote: “Seen this 100 times and I still cry.”

Another added: “She loves him so much and he lovers her so much. I hope everyone finds this kind of love.” Others were left thrilled by Sharon Osbourne’s reaction to the surprise appearance of her husband, saying it is “priceless”.

One person wrote: “Her face when Ozzy’s music hit. Pure perfection. Ozzy is the goat.”

Another added: “This never gets old! He adored her! It showed in the way he treated her. I know they had rough times but he adored her!”.

A third shared: “I love the look on her face. So much love in just her expression. My heart aches for her right now.”

However, Osbourne’s gentler nature wasn’t extended to fellow musicians, with the Prince of Darkness revealing one respected artist was “too cold”.

During the early ’80s, Yngwie Malmsteen was already making waves with his lightning-fast playing, pinpoint accuracy, and scale-heavy solo performances. Whilst he possessed exceptional technical abilities, Osbourne felt there could be too much of a good thing.

“There are guys who’ll go wingly-wangly up and down the fretboard, and some have emotions and others don’t,” he told Guitar World Magazine.

Ron Dean dead: Risky Business and The Breakfast Club star dies as wife pays tribute

Ron Dean has died at the age of 87. The actor – who starred in the likes of Risky Business and The Breakfast Club – peacefully died alongside his family and loved ones.

The actor’s partner Maggie Neff shared: “He passed at exactly 4pm, after his beloved sisters had said their goodbyes. He hung on like a warrior to say goodbye to his little sisters. Then we were alone, and in my arms, I held his hand, and he trusted me when I told him that it was alright to let go. What an honour!”

Ron was born in Chicago in 1938 and he became well known for his early portrayals of police officers and other military officials. In one of his key roles, he played a detective alongside Tom Cruise in Risky Business.

He also had a key role in The Breakfast Club, where he played Mr Clark, the father of Andy Clark – which was portrayed by actor Emilio Estevez. The movie was a hit of the 1980s.

Ron also had roles in movies including Light of Day, The Fugitive, The Client as well as a part in Hollywood blockbuster The Dark Knight. He appeared in various TV shows including Frasier, Murder, She Wrote, ER, The West Wing and Cold Case.

Maggie described her and Ron as “kindred spirits”. She told People: “Ron and I were/are kindred spirits. Our connection was instantaneous and remained so for nearly four decades.

“The love between us was unconditional and permanent. We locked horns many times over the years, but there was never any question that we would be there for each other in our hour of need. And we always were.”

She added: “It’s hard to capture what an extraordinary human being Ron was. One glamorous woman friend of Ron’s once told me that she’d rather grab a hot dog with Ron Dean than have a fancy dinner with some rich bloke. I have always felt the same way.”

Director Andrew Davis, who worked with Dean on The Fugitive added in a statement to Deadline: “Ron Dean was my dear friend and a tremendous actor. He was the essence of what Chicago talent represented. Having a very troubled youth Ron turned his life around to have a wonderful career as a loving, decent human being and respected talent.”

Tributes have also flooded in from movie fans, with one writing: “He was a Chicago cop in every single movie that included Chicago cops for about 40 years.” Another added: “Very good in The Fugitive and The Dark Knight.”

A third shared: “RIP Ron Dean. You will be remembered for that role which only you could have done in The Breakfast Club.”

Hole in her heart & longer left leg – Snoeijs’ unusual birth

Getty Images

Born in Amsterdam with a hole in her heart and a leg that grew to be six centimetres longer than the other, Katja Snoeijs did not live an ordinary childhood.

Snoeijs, now a striker with Women’s Super League side Everton, underwent major heart surgery when she was three years old and had an operation at the age of 12 on her longer left leg.

She previously had little option but to wear special shoes, designed for her by a podiatrist, which gave her right leg a bigger platform.

This gave way to a “shoe obsession” once Snoeijs’ surgery produced positive results and she was able to buy high-street footwear.

Doctors never found out why her left leg grew quicker than the other, despite Snoeijs having lots of medical checks.

“When I was born, I came out with my legs first rather than my head so that was pretty complicated,” Snoeijs told BBC Sport.

This is known as a breech birth and is rare.

“When I was three, they closed my heart up, and as I grew older the difference in leg length grew bigger.

“Because the difference was getting so much bigger, I had to get special shoes. On the right side they cut the heel and put extra material in it so I could walk equally.

“They measured when I could have surgery – when my left leg stopped growing and my right leg could grow equally – and when I was 12 I had that surgery.”

Snoeijs, who is now 29 and an experienced Netherlands international, can speak matter-of-factly about what for many would be a trepidatious hospital visit.

“They broke my growing bones from the knee. Luckily my right leg did grow equally and now it’s only a couple of millimetres’ difference. I can still tell there is a difference!” she said.

‘I really hated the special shoes’

Snoeijs is healthy now, aside from a few niggling hip injuries, and her heart is screened every few years.

Having two legs of different lengths might be expected to cause an issue for someone training to become a professional footballer.

Yet Snoeijs never felt restricted and only now realises what an unusual case she was.

“As a kid you don’t like the hospital visits, but it wasn’t the worst thing. I just sort of showed up and got checked. My parents turned it into a fun thing to do,” she said.

“I really hated the special shoes. I felt a bit stupid and just wanted to wear the Nike shoes or whatever and I couldn’t.

“As soon as I was a teenager and the difference in length was gone, I bought loads of shoes. I got a shoe obsession and maybe still have it.

“Overall in sport, though, I had no issues. My dad always used to say I was better at turning one way because it was shorter. As a kid, I was just not aware of it too much and I didn’t experience many hard times.”

Snoeijs played with normal football boots and “just got on with it”, only noticing slight differences when she got older.

“My right foot is my prominent kicking foot, but in terms of power there is a big difference between the left leg and the right when I’m in the gym,” she said.

“My doctor used to say my right leg was my ‘normal leg’ so my left leg was overly strong and over-compensating.

“I’ve worked a lot with different strength and conditioning coaches to try to get the right leg stronger, but it’s hard to catch up with the left leg that is stronger than it’s supposed to be.”

Hip problems have affected Snoeijs in her football career and she wonders if this has roots in her childhood leg issue.

“We don’t know if they are related, but they might be,” she said.

Book club, jigsaws and photography

Snoeijs, who has won 38 caps for the Netherlands, joined Everton from Bordeaux in 2022 after a two-season spell in France.

She is part of the Everton family now and had to move the time of her BBC Sport interview because she is involved in a book club with team-mates.

“We all send in a book, then we vote between them on which one we want to read. Most of the time it’s been a lot of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novels,” said Snoeijs.

“We read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo last season. It’s a romance. I suggested The Da Vinci Code but not a lot of people wanted to join in on that one!

Snoeijs also enjoys trips to Sefton Park to practise her new-found interest in photography and does jigsaw puzzles when she’s at home.

“Liverpool is a really nice city so I like to take photos of the buildings and the scenic views,” said Snoeijs.

“I’m only a beginner and I’m trying to get into manual settings a little bit more. It’s popular among footballers.

“In the Netherlands we have a TV show called ‘Het Perfecte Plaatje’ [which translates to ‘The Perfect Picture’].

“It’s about famous people who are given an assignment and they have to get the best picture. We try to do that with the national team, but it’s like the book club – it was nice for a few weeks then everyone got distracted!”

Such is the life of a modern player, hopping from one hobby to another while away from the day job.
