It’s been more than five years since Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, stunned Brits by stepping down as senior working members of the Royal Family.

However, an expert reckons the Duke of Sussex is still facing a “struggle” to find his place beyond the gilded gates of Buckingham Palace, especially in terms of “trying to be a breadwinner” for his wife and children.

Things have inarguably been eventful in the Sussex household since the Duke and Duchess swapped rainy Balmoral retreats for celeb hangouts in sunny Montecito. But has this markedly different pace of life proven to be everything the prince hoped for?

In various snaps shared via Meghan’s recently activated Instagram account, she and Harry appear to be enjoying an idyllic life in California with children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.

But according to Royal historian Marlene Koenig, the father of two, who previously served as a soldier in Afghanistan, could be missing out on professional fulfilment.

Ms Koenig told US Weekly: “I’m not sure if Harry has regrets about leaving, as he is determined to build a new life in the US.

” But he hasn’t been entirely successful, especially in terms of earning money for the family. That seems to have fallen on Meghan. “

Business-savvy Meghan is regarded as the Sussex ‘ breadwinner ‘ by some

The pair got candid in their bombshell 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, where they made it clear they were keen to strike out on their own. Further revelations followed in their 2022 Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan.

Harry, 40, went on to publish his ghostwritten memoir Spare, which burst onto bestseller lists at the start of 2023. The Invictus Games founder also went on to take a position with tech startup BetterUp.

Meanwhile, Meghan, 43, showed off her culinary skills in a lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, in addition to her various podcasting pursuits, including the star-studded Confessions Of A Female Founder.

The former actress, who rose to fame playing Rachel Zane on Suits, has also shown entrepreneurial zeal through her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which stocks products such as raspberry spread and herbal teas.

In Ms Koenig’s view, the role of” breadwinner “has fallen on the shoulders of business-savvy Meghan, with the fifth in line to the throne now playing a” supporting role”.

Ms Koenig reflected:” He was always expected to play a supportive but not a supporting role. He may be comfortable in his California home with his wife and two adorable children, but what he hasn’t found yet is the comfort of a success outside at home. “

With this in mind, Ms Koenig compared Harry’s situation with that of his elder brother, Prince William, now the Prince of Wales and King in Waiting.

She argued:” One brother has found his role and knows what he has to do to prepare for his future. The other brother has yet to find the right balance for a successful career away from what he was raised to be. “

Cobolli ends Cilic run to reach first major quarter-final

Wimbledon 2025

Dates: 30 June-13 July Venue: All England Club

Flavio Cobolli, one of tennis’ most exciting prospects, reached his first Grand Slam quarter-final with a hard-fought victory over veteran Marin Cilic at Wimbledon.

In his most difficult challenge of this year’s tournament, Cobolli was pushed hard in a 6-4 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-3) win to set up a potential meeting with his idol Novak Djokovic.

The Italian 22nd seed has impressed with his shot variety and entertaining style during his SW19 run.

The 23-year-old was composed against Cilic, aged 36 and a former Wimbledon finalist and 2014 US Open champion, but dropped his first set of the competition in an absorbing encounter.

After a breakthrough 2024, when he rose from outside the world’s top 100 to the top 30, Cobolli is now enjoying his best Grand Slam performance, having previously never gone beyond the third round.

His victory kicks off what could be a historic day for Italy, with Cobolli, Lorenzo Sonego and Jannik Sinner all featuring in the last 16.

Should they all win, it would be the first time three Italian men have reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam.

Those who have followed Cobolli’s rise over the past 12 months will not be surprised to see him making a maiden appearance in the last eight of a Grand Slam.

He won his first ATP Tour title this year in Romania and followed that up with victory in Hamburg – both on his favoured surface of clay.

Cobolli has previously stated that as a junior he “hated playing on grass”.

Ironic for someone who also played football, spending five years in the academy of his beloved football club Roma, where he played as a right-back.

He has a tattoo on his chest with the words ‘sei tu l’unica mia sposa, sei tu l’unico mio amor’ which translates as ‘you are my only wife, you are my only love’ – a famous quote from club legend Daniele de Rossi.

When he won the French Open boys’ singles title in 2020, he held a Roma scarf above his head in celebration and says he still prefers to watch football than tennis, attending matches when he can.

He chose to pursue tennis aged 14, preferring the solo nature of the game, and is starting to reap the rewards.

Against the wily Cilic, who beat Briton Jack Draper in the second round and was enjoying his best run at Wimbledon since reaching the final in 2017, Cobolli showed efficiency and poise, needing just two breaks of serve to take a two-set lead.

World number 83 Cilic finally got into the contest when an untimely double fault from Cobolli handed the Croat the third set, the first blemish on Cobolli’s perfect record at this tournament.

With strong strokes from the baseline forming a solid foundation and an impressive shot variety at his disposal, Cobolli quickly put Cilic on the back foot with break points in the fourth.

The pair traded breaks before another tie-break sealed Cobolli’s place in the quarter-finals, where he hopes he will get to play on one of the Grand Slam’s main courts.

His father Stefano, a former tennis player himself who peaked at 238 in the rankings, is now his coach and was in tears as Cobolli lifted his arms to take in the crowd’s adulation after a gruelling three hours and 27 minutes on court.

Speaking on her podcast Should I Delete That? with co-host Alex Light, Emily said the gossip site had left her “broken” and the cyberbullying got to bad she needed help stopping the abuse. Emily said: “Tattle has been the biggest thorn in our sides. You and I, Al, have genuinely been heartbroken by this, it’s affected me to the point where I’ve had to block it on all devices”.

Tattle, which attracted 12 million visitors a month has been around for nearly a decade, and was originally created as an open platform for discussion, but has been known as a “troll site” attacking celebrities and internet personalities.

Emily, who is an author, is just one of thousands of people being trolled by anonymous Tattle users and the 30-year-old said her pregnancy with her second child, Xanthe was ruined by trolls on the site who leaked details of her pregnancy. “I was so broken by it, I haven’t been able to check it since Arlo was born, if they say anything bad about my kids I’m gonna die,” Emily further detailed.

Once her pregnancy had been leaked online by Tattle Life users, Emily got the private investigator to track down the culprit. “It felt really nice to know they could be found, and if you push me too far, I know who you are,” she said. “If I read my thread, I’d think I’m the worst person in the world.

Emily said: “I’m incredibly good at finding people on the internet,” and her investigation skills led her to find one Tattle Life user who referred to Emily as ‘thrush’ as she was ‘annoying’, but on Instagram, the user would message Emily being as nice as pie.

To show her she knew who she was, Emily decided to send her a picture of thrush medication on Instagram and was swiftly left alone by the troll”. She saw it and never replied, “Emily laughed. However she said the comments not only” broke her “but could also have a detrimental effect on her career including work partnerships and relationships as those targeted never get a chance to defend themselves.

This travel-friendly stick gives instant ‘glass skin’ and a healthier-looking complexion

If you’re after radiant skin and defined cheekbones in a flash, our beauty editor thinks she’s found just the thing: an easy-to-use highlighter stick from a celebrity’s beauty brand

‘Glass skin in a stick’(Image: Laura Mulley)

It seems everyone is after ‘glass skin’ at the moment – that dewy, light reflective sheen to the skin, especially on the high points of the face, that’s universally flattering and youthful. And if you don’t know where to start to achieve this, or the thought of applying lots of layers of skincare puts you off, I think I’ve found the solution.

I’ve never been a big fan of highlighter powders, but I’ve recently come across Haus Labs by Lady Gaga’s Bio Radiant Highlighter Balm, and it’s a total game-changer. This handy crayon-like sticks come in six flattering shades, are super-easy to use, and instantly illuminate the skin in such a flattering way.

Haus Labs by Lady Gaga's Bio Radiant Highlighter Balm

Priced at £30 and available from Sephora, these Bio Radiant Highlighter Balms couldn’t be easier to use: simply draw on over or under make-up where required (I like putting them on the tops of my cheekbones and brow bones), then blend slightly with fingers. They can also be used on the eyelids; the tinted shades in particular look lovely on the lids.

My favourite shade is the transparent Pure Glass, which doesn’t add any shimmer or colour, but instead just a lovely luminous glazed look that instantly improves my face in seconds. It’s very similar to the clear end of Pat McGrath Labs Skin Fetish Highlighter and Balm Duo, £50, or Chanel’s Baume Essential in Transparent, £38, and if you’ve always been a bit scared of using highlighter, this is a great place to start; you really can’t got wrong.

Despite initially thinking it wouldn’t suit me, I also really like the Haus Labs Highlighter Balm in Champagne Quartz, and would use this when doing more of a ‘done’ make-up look.

I’ve been really impressed with Haus Labs since trying its viral B Structural Volumizing + Lengthening Mascara, £27, which is the most lengthening mascara I’ve ever tried – in just a few swipes this mascara had my lashes visibly nearly reaching my eyebrows. It also gives dramatic volume – no natural fluffiness here, this is for full-on, spiders’-legs lashes.

For other cheaper alternatives of cream highlighters, you could try Glossier Haloscope Dew Effect Highlighter, £22, the mini version of the Rare Beauty Positive Light Liquid Luminizer, £15, or L’Oréal Paris Lumi Le Glass Stick, currently £8.99.
