Gok Wan has admitted he is still coming to terms with a health diagnosis he received a few years ago. The fashion guru-turned-DJ was told he had ADHD and he has confessed it is still taking some getting his head around.

However, in a bid to help others who have the condition, the 50-year-old star took to social media to share a message of support. Uploading an article he had found helpful and interesting, Gok shared a post surrounding dealing with grief when you have ADHD, which stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

According to the NHS, the condition makes the brain work differently to most people. Symptoms include being easily distracted, finding it hard to listen to what people are saying or to follow instructions, and forgetting everyday tasks, such as brushing teeth or putting on socks.

In Gok’s post, he said: “’Ive not really spoken about my ADHD as it’s still something I’m learning to understand as I was diagnosed only a couple of years ago.

“Anyway, this morning I read an interesting article about GRIEF (which took me f***ing forever – ADHD fam, IYKYK lol)… for anyone with ADHD and is grieving, this article may help.”

He then shared a link to the article on the Mini ADHD Coach website. And fans were grateful for his post.

Among those sharing the gratitude was internet personality Steven Carter-Bailey who wrote: “Thanks, sweetheart xx,” with a love heart emoji.

Another user penned: “Grief is hard for everyone but when you can’t quite process it in the same way as others it becomes more than just grief… xx hugs,” while a third added: “My daughter has ADHD – knew there was a reason I can relate to you so much. You are wonderful.”

Last year the TV host opened up on how he almost didn’t make it into his career in fashion . Instead, he claimed he was “really interested” in economics.

Speaking to the Mirror in December, Gok confessed he had “always fantasised” of working in finance or in the City. The How To Look Good Naked star said: “I wanted a career change.

“And I always fantasised about the idea of working in finance or working in the City. I know, it sounds bizarre. But I’m really interested in economics. I think I probably could have done it.”

And he also revealed how losing a pal to breast cancer made him treat life “like a daily bucket list”. He went on to admit that his life’s path hasn’t taken him on the route he had initially envisaged.

Gok, who is single, previously revealed how he was hopeful he would be a father before he turned 45. However, he admits that his path may not feature parenthood: “My paternal need was never strong enough. It was only ever the fear of missing out,” he said.

“I did think, ‘Am I going to regret this?’ I might still. I’ve kind of come to terms with the idea. I have to be confident enough to know it’s not right for me right now.”

How strong is US manufacturing, as Trump’s tariff deadline looms?

The global economy is on edge as United States President Donald Trump’s July 9 deadline looms for the imposition of double-digit tariffs on most trading partners.

On Monday, Trump announced tariffs on 14 countries, ranging from 25 to 40 percent. The targeted countries include close US allies like Japan and South Korea, as well as Laos, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Tunisia, South Africa, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Indonesia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

And with only a few trade deals in place, his administration is expected to announce the imposition of new levies on many more countries. Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Sunday said those new tariffs would come into effect on August 1.

Trump’s initial April 2 “Liberation Day” announcement of across-the-board tariffs on countries around the world sent markets into a tailspin. Trump relented – temporarily – announcing a 90-day cessation on higher tariffs, while imposing a 10 percent baseline levy on all trading partners.

Now, some experts fear that higher tariffs, if imposed after July 9, could push the global economy into a recession.

Along with reducing the trade deficit, Trump’s argument for tariffs is that they will boost US manufacturing and protect jobs. He says tariffs will encourage US consumers to buy more US-made goods, increase the taxes raised and enhance investment in the US.

But what is the current state of manufacturing in the US, and how has it fared in recent months amid the economic churn stirred by Trump’s policies?

Where are we now?

In a bid to revitalise US industry, Trump announced a $14bn investment on May 30, brokering a partnership between US Steel and Nippon Steel tipped to create 70,000 jobs, according to the White House.

The Trump administration has also highlighted investments announced by automakers, tech firms and chocolate companies, among others, as evidence of the return of manufacturing to US soil.

According to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, manufacturing contributed $2.9 trillion to the economy in the first quarter of 2025, a 0.6 percent increase from the corresponding period in 2024. That places it behind only finance, professional and business services, and government as the largest sectors contributing to the US economy.

However, building that manufacturing base back to the heydays of the sector, when it dominated the US economy, will not be easy, caution many experts. They point out that the US is today missing many of the essential elements of a robust manufacturing framework, including skilled labour, government support and technology.

Manufacturing accounted for more than 25 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the 1970s, but that came down to 13 percent by 2005. Its share has since dropped further, to about 9.7 percent in 2024.

Finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing value added as a percentage of GDP was 21 percent in 2024, followed by professional and business services (13 percent) and government (11 percent).

US manufacturing falls for a fourth month

The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Manufacturing Index, also known as the purchasing managers’ index (PMI), is a monthly indicator of economic activity based on a survey of purchasing managers at manufacturing firms nationwide. It serves as a primary indicator of the condition of the US economy.

The PMI measures the change in production levels across the economy from month to month. A PMI above 50 indicates expansion, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.

In June, it registered 49 percent, marking a fourth consecutive month of contraction, though the rate of decline has slowed.

(Al Jazeera)

At the start of 2025, the PMI was in expansion territory – 50.9 percent in January and 50.3 percent in February, before slipping below 50 in March.

Nine manufacturing industries reported growth in June, while six industries reported contraction.

According to the Reuters news agency, economists say the lack of clarity on what happens after July 9 has left businesses unable to make long-term plans.

How many people does manufacturing employ?

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, in June 2025 there were some 12.75 million people employed in the manufacturing sector in the US.

Employment in manufacturing has increased from five years ago – in June 2020, some 11.95 million people were employed.

However, current employment levels are still far below the peak of nearly 20 million people hired in manufacturing jobs in the late 1970s, reflecting the long-term decline in the sector’s contribution to employment in the US.

US manufacturing job openings increased in May – 414,000, up from 392,000 in April – but actual hiring declined, hinting at uncertainties in the labour market over the Trump administration’s tariff policies.

US manufacturing compared to the rest of the world

The US has seen a decline in its share of global manufacturing, while China has taken over as the largest manufacturing country by value-added.

China contributed $4.8 trillion to the global GDP through manufacturing in 2022, followed by the US at $2.7 trillion that year.

Fiona Phillips’ husband reveals her heartbreaking daily routine after Alzheimer’s diagnosis

Three years ago, Fiona Phillips was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s before her husband, Martin Frizell, left his job as the boss of This Morning to look after her

Martin Frizell has given a heartbreaking insight into Fiona Phillip’s life now after her devastating Alzheimer’s diagnosis three years ago. Fiona, 64, initially thought her symptoms, including brain fog, anxiety and a lack of interest in her marriage, were due to menopause until she was told she had the neurodegenerative condition, which tragically took the lives of both her parents.

Martin, 66, who last year gave up his job heading This Morning to look after his wife, who he wed in 1997, has admitted that Fiona – with whom he shares two sons – now needs ‘a lot of help’, including with showering, washing her hair, brushing her teeth and getting dressed.

Opening up about Fiona’s daily routine, he writes in her upcoming memoir: Remember when? My Life With Alzheimer’s, which is being serialised in the Mail: “It is January 2025 as I write this, and Fiona needs a lot of help.

“She needs help showering and brushing her teeth. She can do these things physically, but is unable now to think about how she should do them…

“I wash Fiona’s hair because she wouldn’t know what shampoo or conditioner to use or how wet her hair needs to be or that she must rinse the soap suds out afterwards…

“And most nights I’ll say, ‘Right, we need to brush our teeth before we go to bed,’ and I’ll put the toothpaste on the brush and hand it to her.”

Martin explains that while Fiona can dress herself, she doesn’t do it “correctly” and sometimes puts things on the wrong way round.

He also reveals his wife becomes very fond of one piece of clothing and will want to wear it “over and over again.”

Admitting that Fiona, who was one of the UK’s most in-demand presenters, hosting GMTV for more than decade, is “still very stubborn”, Martin, heartbreakingly, concedes she doesn’t like being told what to do and “rails against it”.

Fiona recently admitted she had no idea she was suffering from Alzheimer’s before her diagnosis three years ago. The former GMTV star, initially put her symptoms, including brain fog, anxiety and a lack of interest in her marriage down to menopause. However, three years ago she was tragically told that she had the neurodegenerative disease, which both her parents suffered with.

Following Fiona’s diagnosis, Martin quit his job at This Morning after 10 years in 2024, saying he ‘expected his priorities to change’.

He announced: “Next year I’m expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them. I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly but it’s an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment and I won’t be able to do both.”

Oasis fans issued Heaton Park warning over train travel days before concert

Oasis fans travelling to their hometown show at Heaton Park have been issued a warning over travel just days before the first concert takes place

Oasis fans travelling to their concerts at Heaton Park have been issued a travel warning. Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher will return to their hometown this weekend for the start of five sold-out concerts, playing to 80,000 fans each night. But with such demand comes increased pressure on public transport.

Ticket platform Trainline has seen a 20 per cent increase in passengers travelling to Manchester ahead of Oasis’ historic Heaton Park shows. They say this surge suggests thousands of music fans will travel from all corners of the UK to see the Gallagher’s reunion in their home town. Some towns and cities have sold more than double the usual number of tickets ahead of the Gallagher brothers’ first homecoming concert on Friday.

The band kicked off their historic reunion tour in Cardiff last week. The biggest uplift in bookings to Manchester came from Norwich with a 115 per cent increase, Leeds with 107 per cent and Aberdeen with 98 per cent. Sarah Helppi, UK Country Director at Trainline, said: “Rock’n’ rail is a perfect combination. Thousands of music fans are travelling by train to be part of an iconic summer moment. If you’re joining the tour in the band’s hometown, book as soon as possible to secure a seat.”

One fan travelling from London, Erin Archer, said: “My boyfriend booked our train to Manchester on Trainline as soon as we got the Oasis tickets—it was all done in minutes. It’s made the whole thing feel so easy and stress-free.

“Now we can just look forward to the gig, enjoy the build-up, and soak up every second of Oasis back in their hometown!” But that’s not the only warning fans have been given. Temperatures across Manchester are expected to soar on Friday and Saturday when the legendary band are playing, which will no doubt create a biblical atmosphere.

Experts suggest that thermometers are set to hit almost 30 degrees this weekend. Currently, the chance of rain stands at less than 5 per cent across the entire weekend. The Met Office states that Friday, temperatures could hit as high as 27 degrees at its peak around 4pm, while the lowest, at 4am will be 15 degrees. At 1pm, there will be an orange warning, signifying a level 7 exposure of UV, meaning those in attendance will require sunscreen.

But as the gig comes to an end, the temperature will drop slightly to a more moderate 22 degrees. On Saturday, for the second sold-out show, the weather will continue to pick up and shows signs that it will not be cooling down any time soon.

Instead, the lowest temperature at 4am, will be 18degrees, while the peak, between 4pm and 7pm will be 27 degrees. Despite the staggering temperatures, the highest UV warning will be at 1pm, which is a level 7. The BBC says of the upcoming weather on Friday: “Friday should then be dry with sunshine throughout the day. Becoming very warm or hot.”

Oasis will perform at Heaton Park on July 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20. Marco Petagna, senior meteorologist at the Met Office, explained that the weather will start to turn balmy on Wednesday, with dry conditions returning after several areas were plunged under thunderstorm warnings last night. The expert said: “I think Wednesday is probably going to be the day when we could start to reach the thresholds of 25 to 28 degrees, depending on where you are.”

He added: “We probably won’t actually reach an official heatwave until around Friday, to give the three consecutive days at those temperatures. But temperatures are going to continue to climb as we go toward the end of the week, and certainly, by Friday and Saturday, we could see 30 degrees, perhaps just nudging into the low 30s.

“At the weekend, we could just start to see humidity increasing a little bit as well and nighttime temperatures look like they are going to be, so it will be starting to become more uncomfortable by night. It’s a bit of a question mark going through the weekend early next week as to how long the heat will last and how high the temperatures will get because some models are sort of pushing the heat away a bit more quickly, whereas others keep the heat going.

“At this stage, it looks as though certainly into next weekend, we should hold on to hot weather across the south of the UK, and temperatures could again certainly get into the low 30s in a few spots.”
