Messi Scores Brace To Lift Miami To MLS Win Over Nashville

Lionel Messi continued his historic Major League Soccer scoring run Saturday, netting two goals for the fifth game in a row to lift Inter Miami to a 2-1 victory over Nashville.

Just days after he became the first player to score multiple goals in four straight MLS matches, Messi did it again as Miami continued their climb up the Eastern Conference standings after their league hiatus for the Club World Cup.

Messi, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a trademark left-foot free-kick, which found the only gap in Nashville’s defensive wall to go past goalkeeper Joe Willis.

Miami dominated in the first half but just four minutes after half-time, Hany Mukhtar’s header pulled Nashville level.

Messi grabbed the winner in the 62nd minute when he capitalized on a bad mistake from Willis, who misjudged a pass to tee up the Argentine for the strike.

The two goals — on the heels of his two in a 2-1 win over New England on Wednesday — took Messi’s total to 16 in 16 appearances this season, tied with Nashville’s Sam Surridge, who was unable to add to his tally of 16 on Saturday.

“There are not many words. It’s incredible what he keeps doing, breaking records now every three days, not even every weekend,” Miami coach Javier Mascherano said.

“He is the standard-bearer of our team that shows us the way to compete. He is the leader.

“It’s a blessing for me to accompany this stage of his career.”

Miami were playing their third match since returning to MLS action in the wake of a month-long Club World Cup campaign that ended when they were eliminated in the last 16 by Paris Saint-Germain.

With 38 points from 19 matches, they are in fifth place in the East, five points behind leaders Philadelphia with three games in hand.

Philadelphia went top with a 2-0 victory over New York Red Bulls, Indiana Vassilev and Bruno Damiani delivering the goals.

Cincinnati slipped to second in the East on 42 points after falling 4-2 to Columbus. Nashville and Columbus both have 41 points.

Miami’s jam-packed schedule continues Wednesday against Cincinnati, with the New York Red Bulls coming up next weekend.

Mascherano knows he will have to find time to give the 38-year-old Messi some rest.

“At some point we are going to have to find a space to give him some rest, we are going to talk about it day by day,” he said.

“He is feeling good and when we think it is time to give him some rest, we will do it.”

Britain’s Sheeraz stops Berlanga as Stevenson retains title

Britain’s Hamzah Sheeraz made a successful step up to super middleweight with a destructive fifth-round stoppage victory against Edgar Berlanga in New York.

In the other co-main event, Shakur Stevenson retained his WBC lightweight world title with a unanimous decision victory over William Zepeda.

Sheeraz, 26, knocked Berlanga down twice in the fourth round and again at the start of the fifth to force the referee to end the fight.

The impressive victory improves Sheeraz’s record to 22-0, with one draw and 18 wins inside the distance.

It was the Briton’s first fight since that draw – against WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames in February – after which he decided to make the step up to super middleweight.

Berlanga’s record is now 23-2 after a second defeat in three fights, with March’s stoppage of Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz preceded by a unanimous points defeat by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Meanwhile, Stevenson comfortably won on all three judges’ scorecards against Zepeda to make a third defence of his WBC lightweight title.

Two judges scored the bout 118-110 and a third saw it 119-109 for the 28-year-old American, who improved his unbeaten record to 24-0 with 11 knockouts.

It was a first career defeat for Mexican Zepeda, 29, whose record is now 33-1.

Mark Wright provokes furious backlash with ‘dangerous’ swimming pool prank

Former The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright left fans unimpressed when he shared a video showing himself pushing his elderly dad into a swimming pool – prompting a backlash

Mark Wright sparked a backlash among his fans when he shared footage of himself pushing his dad into a swimming pool in apparently shallow water. The former The Only Way Is Essex star, 38, is the son of former car dealership businessman Mark Wright, Sr, 68, and former events organiser Carol Wright, 64.

The Wright family – which also includes reality star Jess, 39, footballer Josh, 35, and model Natalya, 24 – have featured on various reality shows, including the BBC show A Wright Old Adventure as well as ITV’s Towie. As such, fans have had access to hours and hours of footage about the family and have been given front row access to their personal lives.

Beyond this, fans have been able to feel even closer to Mark and his family thanks to social media. But over the weekend, Mark appeared to overstep the bounds of acceptance when he shared footage of a prank that many fans feared had the potential to go spectacularly wrong.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Mark uploaded a video clip of himself creeping up on his father who was standing at the edge of a swimming pool. Other family members were gathered in and around the pool as Mark padded towards his father.

As he reached the older businessman, Mark reached out and pushed his dad into the pool – shoving him in at the shallow edge where tiled steps led down to the water and where a young boy was swimming casually. After being submerged, Mark Sr resurfaced and was less than impressed.

He swore colourfully as he reached into the pocket of his shorts and pulled out his phone – which was at risk of being damaged by the water. Meanwhile Mark laughed away in the background of the footage.

The former Towie star shared the footage on his main grid alongside a caption stating: “Sorry for the language the old man didn’t like that one @bigmarkwright,” and with a couple of crying-with-laughter emojis.

But fans and followers were not amused by the clip and many took to the comments section to express their deep concern. One wrote in reply: “Not funny with the steps and the child, could have ended badly.”

A post shared by Mark Wright (@wrigAnd another questioned: “Did anyone else has anxiety over the little boy getting squashed in that water??” It turned out many did feel similarly, with one responding: “that and his dad breaking his ankle on steps” – while another typed: “also that his old man could have seriously gone over on his ankle or hurt his knee, hip etc. I’m all for fun but no chance I’d be doing this to my dad.”

Another follower hit out writing: “So bloody dangerousl pushing someone into a pool ffs.” And another bluntly responded: “Not even slightly funny.”

Some fans accused Mark of showcasing typical behaviour, with one writing: “This is not funny why you so rude to your parents I’ve seen this in your reality shows as well.”

Family members were among those reacting to the post, with Mark’s older sister commenting: “Of course daughter Jess comes to the rescue.” While youngest sister Natalya wrote: “Poor dad” along with a crying-with-laughter emoji.

Katie Price’s face looks more stretched than ever as she poses for painful selfie

Katie Price is currently soaking up the summer sun as she enjoys a holiday abroad which she has been documenting on social media

Katie Price was looking more youthful than ever as she posed for a sultry selfie on Instagram. The mum-of-five is currently away on holiday as she soaks up the summer sun.

She’s been keeping her fans in the loop as she took to her Instagram stories to show off her bronzed skin in a very skimpy silver top. Former glamour model Katie showed off her taut visage emphasised by her sharp eyebrows and plumped lips while pouting for the camera.

The star tied her black locks back while going for a full glam look for her night out.

The giddy mum was in high spirits as she told fans: “After 7 hours of travelling and melting on the beach what a night.”

The update comes after Katie splashed out £10,000 on a brand new facelift – having undergone several procedures previously. Katie shared gruesome photos of her recovery on Snapchat, revealing her face and cheeks taped up.

She posted: “From my last surgery, there are just a few little bits that I want tweaking. Well, they need tweaking. So here I am getting ready. That’s the worst bit for me, the needle. The needle’s done so now I can relax.”

The former glamour model has been open about her surgeries, but she recently said that she has been sworn off having surgery in the UK following a botched operation.

She recently showed off her new look after having more filler in her bum. But she admitted her bungled Brazilian butt lift was her worst operation to date.

Katie opened up to Katherine Ryan on her What’s My Age Again? podcast. Explaining the procedure was the one she most regretted, Katie said: “I tried that BBL abroad where they take your own fat and put it in your bum. It was so painful. And it just did not look right on me.”

She said she had the procedure in Turkey and said that despite the bad experience, it hadn’t stopped her love of getting work done abroad. “I would never have surgery in England again. Ever, ever,” she confessed. “I’d always have it abroad.”

Earlier this year Katie even also insisted she wouldn’t be getting another BBL and instead had an aim to hit the gym to plump it up naturally.

Speaking on her own The Katie Price Podcast, she told listeners: “I’m starting the gym next week. I’ve decided I’m not going to have filler or implants, I’m going to work my a*** off at the gym. I’ll take before and after pictures, though it’ll probably take a year to get my bum where I want it.”

Dr Gerard Lambe, a leading UK plastic surgeon and head of Reflect Clinic, issued a stark warning in New Magazine. “Katie needs to be aware that she is putting her health and body under extreme pressure with the now countless number of procedures she’s had done in the last year alone,” he said.

“BBL is one of the most dangerous surgeries anyone can undergo and it has the highest mortality rate – it’s one of Katie’s riskiest surgeries yet. She is dicing with death,” he added.

Arsenal target Gyokeres faces Sporting disciplinary action

Arsenal target Viktor Gyokeres is facing disciplinary action by his club Sporting after failing to report for pre-season training, says the Portuguese club’s president Frederico Varandas.

Varandas added that any potential transfer was now becoming “more complicated”.

BBC Sport reported last week that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta held face-to-face talks with Sweden international Gyokeres in Portugal.

Sources have told BBC Sport that talks are ongoing with Arsenal, who are still hopeful of striking a deal, with their most recent proposal for the 27-year-old totalling about 70m euros (£60m) including add-ons.

Last month Sporting president Varandas said there was no ‘gentleman’s agreement’ for Gyokeres to leave for 70m euros but added that the club would not demand his full release clause of 100m euros (£85m).

Gyokeres, who scored 54 goals in 52 games last season, has yet to publicly explain why he has not turned up for pre-season.

Varandas told Portuguese news agency Lusa that “no one is above the interests of the club”.

“We’re calm. Everything can be solved with the closure of the market, a hefty fine and an apology to the group,” Varandas said.

“If they don’t want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we’ll be very comfortable with that for the next three years.

“If the geniuses who are devising this strategy think that this puts pressure on me to make it easier for him to leave, not only are they completely wrong, but they are also making it more complicated for the player to leave.”
