Personal issues draw money.

Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

The tension between England and India has not quite tipped over into bad blood – yet – but there is no doubt the needle between the two teams has sparked a Lord’s classic.

Handbags on the third evening fuelled a pulsating fourth day. Much of the third Test had meandered and drifted, only for a super Sunday to set up a potentially manic Monday.

England need six wickets, India require 135 runs. The prize is a 2-1 lead with two Tests to play.

This venue – part cricket ground, part museum – can be as raucous as any. Ask Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey. All 30,000 tickets are sold out for what will probably only be a few hours of action.

“Having that competitive edge definitely helps the situation,” said England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick. “It helps the atmosphere and the presence of the series.

“Cricket has got a bit more friendly over the past few years because the players are together in franchise tournaments all over the world.

As Sunday afternoon ticked into a balmy evening, England had little to cling on to.

The home side were bowled out – most of them literally – by the brilliance of the Indians, who used the assistance of the awakened pitch to devastating effect. The tourists moved to 41-1 in pursuit of their target of 193.

Brydon Carse bowled better than his first-innings figures of 1-88 suggested. As stumps on the fourth day drew near, he finally got his rewards.

In a chaotic last half hour, Carse charged down the Lord’s slope like a thoroughbred that had unseated its rider. Karun Nair was befuddled into kicking one off his stumps, captain Shubman Gill also pinned after overturning being given caught behind.

Chris Woakes demanded more from the home fans, Joe Root conducted the orchestra from first slip. India were outraged when Zak Crawley tried to waste time on Saturday, yet that did not stop nightwatchman Akash Deep doing the same on Sunday. No matter, his off stump was removed by Ben Stokes. Pandemonium.

“The last hour of viewing, our guys running in really well, there was an edge out there and it creates a great spectacle,” said former England opener Trescothick.

“We were fairly relaxed in the dressing room, controlling the emotions of what’s going on. We all enjoy every wicket but we are still very controlled in what we are trying to do.”

How much control exists on Monday morning remains to be seen. Woakes dropped KL Rahul on five and the unflappable opener is unbeaten on 33.

Rishabh Pant, apparently fit enough to bat but not keep wicket, is due in next. His chaos theory could win this in the blink of an eye.

“Rahul holds the key for the stability of India’s side,” former England captain Sir Alastair Cook told Test Match Special. “While he is there the dressing room will feel relaxed.

England have their own clutch champion in captain Stokes, a man with almost unmatched pedigree when the stakes are highest, especially on this ground.

He has been outstanding in this match. Contributions of 44 and 33 with the bat, a vital direct-hit run out of Pant in the first innings.

The skipper has been England’s most consistently threatening bowler, touching 90mph. On Saturday evening, when Stokes was bent double with exhaustion and his shirt translucent with sweat, head coach Brendon McCullum had to send orders to tell Stokes to stop bowling, in order to protect his fragile body.

Even McCullum might not wrestle the ball out of Stokes’ hand on the final morning.

“Ben holds a massive key because he has been England’s best bowler all summer,” said ex-England skipper Michael Vaughan. “The Stokes-Carse combination that bowled in the last half an hour should be the one to start day five.

“There is so much at stake. If England are 2-1 down with two to play, and an Ashes series to come, the wheels start to get loose. I am not saying they will fall off, but preparing for an Ashes series you want to be winning your series at home. There is so much to play for.”

For India, there is a slice of Lord’s history at stake.

On this ground, only one team has conceded more than 387 fielding in the first innings of the match, then gone on to win.

If India pull off a repeat, they will match Australia’s achievement from 95 years ago, when Donald Bradman was wearing baggy green.

That they have such a golden opportunity is partly down to off-spinner Washington Sundar, who claimed 4-22 in England’s second innings.

“The position we’re in we’d have differently taken,” he said. “India will win, probably just after lunch.”

Clarkson’s Farm’s Kaleb Cooper calls 999 after ‘reckless’ actions of people in field

Farming contractor Kaleb Cooper, who has become a household name since starring in the TV series Clarkson’s Farm, made an emergency call yesterday after seeing the lanterns

Kaleb Cooper, the breakout star from Jeremy Clarkson’s hit show Clarkson’s Farm, issued a fiery warning against the peril of releasing Chinese lanterns amidst the blazing heatwave sweeping the Cotswolds.

The farmhand-turned-celebrity took to Instagram on Saturday (July 12) to voice his shock over the sight of lanterns drifting skyward near Chipping Norton.

Using an Instagram video captioned “what is going on in the world” as his platform, Kaleb’s message, though visually obscure due to darkness, hit home clearly with his earnest appeal.

Upping the drama, he declared: “I’ve just called this in to 999 but someone has felt the need to light two Chinese lanterns in and around the Chipping Norton area. They are currently floating over the area. I’m looking at both of them as we speak right now.”

Shedding light on the reckless act amid drought-like conditions, he commented: “But what goes through someone’s mind when they decide to light two Chinese lanterns in the middle of a heatwave. We’ve hardly had any rain since March. Jesus, honestly. What’s going on with the world.”

In the comments section of his post, followers chimed in, endorsing his plea for common sense in these tinderbox times. One fan urged: “People need educating mate. Spread the message.”

Another backed him firmly, saying: “Well said Kaleb, this could quite easily start a wildfire.” A third lamented: “Some people really don’t have a clue. The farmer’s field next to mine is that dry I can literally put my whole hand down the cracks of the soil.”

Adding fuel to the fire, a fourth remarked: “They should never do this for any celebration. They let some of these off for a wedding near me. They set fire to someone’s house and barn when they landed. Plus livestock can ingest them when they land. It’s like balloon releases. It’s littering, pure and simple. Should be banned.”

The Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service takes a firm stance on sky lanterns, as shared on their website: “Sky lanterns are a beautiful sight – but the potential damage they can cause is significant.”

The advice further notes: “They use the heat of a naked flame to float. They’re not only a fire hazard but also a danger to livestock, agriculture, camping activities, thatched properties and hazardous material sites.”

Highlighting the uncontrollable nature of these airborne hazards, the rescue service cautions: “Whilst ignition and launch are mostly in the control of the user, the actual flight path and end destination are not. There’s no guarantee the fuel cell will be completely out and cooled when the lantern lands, so any contact with a flammable surface could start a fire.”

They’ve been a menace, causing havoc aplenty, the service observes: “There’s evidence of them causing fires, wasting police time, being mistaken for distress flares, misleading aircraft and killing livestock.”

Sinner beats Alcaraz to win first Wimbledon title

World number one Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon title by wearing down Carlos Alcaraz in another high-quality Grand Slam final between the dominant forces of the men’s game.

Italy’s Sinner claimed a 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory at the All England Club, avenging his brutal French Open defeat by Spanish world number two Alcaraz just 35 days ago.

Then, Sinner led by two sets – and held three championship points – before Alcaraz roared back to win a five-set classic lasting more than five hours.

Now, the 23-year-old has responded by taking two-time defending champion Alcaraz’s crown on the Centre Court grass, following another gripping contest which again showcased the pair’s shot-making, athleticism and star power.

“It is so special,” Sinner said. “I’m living my dream.”

Sinner, who served a three-month doping ban earlier this year, has claimed the fourth Grand Slam title of his career and a first major victory not on a hard court.

The manner in which he served out victory from going a break up at 3-1 in the fourth set – given his experience in Paris last month – was admirable.

There was a moment of knowing consternation among Sinner’s supporters when he missed a first match point, but he reset to take his second opportunity before dropping to his haunches at the net.

Sinner’s win also stopped 22-year-old Alcaraz from becoming only the fifth man in the Open era to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles.

“It is always difficult to lose, but first of all I have to congratulate Jannik again,” Alcaraz said.

‘You have to accept the losses’ – resilient Sinner bounces back

What makes Sinner so special above all else is his mentality.

The man from the mountains in northern Italy regularly remains ice-cold in the most decisive matches – which is why his fumble against Alcaraz in Paris felt so surprising.

Little appears to faze the mild-mannered Italian – on or off court.

He was able to stay sanguine during the doping controversy which rocked the sport and the manner in which he has moved on quickly from the brutal nature of his Roland Garros defeat has been impressive.

“I had a very tough loss in Paris, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how you win or lose – you just have to understand what you did wrong,” Sinner said during his on-court speech.

“We accepted the loss, kept working and that’s why I’m holding this trophy.”

Sinner had shown more resilience over the Wimbledon fortnight by fighting through an elbow injury which needed an MRI scan.

How another gripping ‘Sincaraz’ final panned out

Sinner and Alcaraz have created a duopoly in the men’s game over the past two seasons, forging a gripping rivalry which is starting to fill the void left by the sport’s ageing superstars.

This was another demonstration of how the duel – which the ATP Tour has long pinned its hopes on replacing the Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal-Novak Djokovic gap – could be a blockbuster for years to come.

Few would have confidently predicted which way their first meeting in the Wimbledon final would go.

Alcaraz, having won 35 of his 38 grass-court matches, had the greater pedigree on the surface, but Sinner had won their sole previous encounter at Wimbledon in 2022.

Alcaraz had made relatively slow starts with his service games over the past fortnight, which contributed to the Spaniard facing a total of 48 break points compared to Sinner’s 17.

When he lost serve and trailed 4-2 in the opener, it felt Alcaraz would again have to fight back from behind.

But he pounced when Sinner got sloppy in the eighth game to level and the subtle change of momentum led to Alcaraz claiming the lead with a stretching backhand which he somehow turned into an astonishing winner.

One of the factors that makes this rivalry intriguing is their opposite styles. Alcaraz has a higher ceiling of artistic shot-making, but his level can dip lower than the steadier Sinner.

That happened in the second set as Alcaraz’s serve – and concentration – went walkabout.

Sinner broke in the first game and, having survived pressure at 2-1 when his service motion was also disrupted by a champagne cork shooting on to the baseline, it was a decisive one.

With the scoreline locked at one set each, it felt like another classic in the making.

There continued to be little difference between the pair in the third set until Sinner swarmed over Alcaraz’s second serve in the ninth game to break and serve out for the lead.

Sinner’s relentlessly clean ball-striking from the back of the court, plus his fleet of foot when his opponent tried to lure him forward, began to frustrate Alcaraz in the fourth set.

Coleen Rooney plotting ‘revenge’ to silence doubters in new TV series with husband Wayne

Coleen Rooney is stepping into the spotlight with a Disney+ docuseries alongside husband Wayne, aiming to silence critics who have been questioning her success

Coleen is believed to have been the reason behind a huge deal(Image: coleen_rooney/Instagram)

After years in the background of Wayne Rooney’s football career, Coleen Rooney is stepping into her own spotlight and she has her mind set on proving her doubters wrong.

Fresh off her success as runner-up on I’m A Celebrity, the 39-year-old mum-of-four is said to be more determined than ever to be recognised as more than just a footballer’s wife. According to an insider, she’s had enough of assumptions about staying with Wayne for financial reasons after his infidelities and addiction issues.

“She’s sick of hearing that she would be nothing without Wayne or she only stays for the money. She’s now a multimillionaire in her own right and she’s not stopping there. This is just the start for Coleen and she can be very determined when she wants to be.”

Having turned down career opportunities while raising their four sons, Kai, Klay, Kit, and Cass, proud mum Coleen is reportedly now focused on building her own brand, and insiders say she was the driving force behind the couple’s lucrative new deal with Disney+.

“She’s the reason they got this big Disney deal,” the insider told The Sun. “I’m A Celeb proved that she’s just as big a star as Wayne. It’s the ultimate revenge on her doubters.”

The couple’s upcoming docuseries, created by the producers behind Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, will offer rare insight into their home life with their four young sons. Cameras will follow Wayne, 39, as he trades football training for school runs, while Coleen continues her business ventures.

Speaking to The Mirror, a source revealed earlier this month: “They could be bigger than not just the Beckhams, but the Kardashians.”

With Wayne recently dismissed from his managerial role at Plymouth Argyle and reportedly rejecting a lower-league job, the couple are reportedly seeing the series as a new chapter in both their personal lives and careers.

PR expert Dermot McNamara believes the show could reshape their public image, but not without challenges. “This will be their biggest test yet,” he said.

“Even though they’ve been famous since they were teenagers, we haven’t ever seen what their lives are really about. There’s so much we don’t know about them, like how they talk, how they parent. We’re going to get a fresh perspective.”

Coleen’s time on I’m A Celebrity showed glimpses of her resilience, but even still, questions about Wayne’s scandals resurfaced as she was quizzed on her heartache by her fellow campmates.

“She let people in, but was still guarded,” Dermot said. “Now we might finally see how she lives with all that public heartache.”

Despite the controversies, Coleen has built her own fortune with books, fashion, and fitness deals, and now, the Rooneys are ready to take control of their story with their brand-new show which has already been predicted as one of their biggest successes yet.

The Mirror has approached Coleen’s representatives for comment on this story.

Sinner Downs Alcaraz To Win First Wimbledon

Jannik Sinner downed Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to win his first Wimbledon title, gaining sweet revenge for his painful defeat in the French Open final.

The world number one is the first Italian to win at the All England Club and now has four Grand Slams to his name at the age of 23.

The tennis world has been captivated by the emergence of the new rivalry to follow the storied “Big Three” era of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

Sinner and two-time defending Wimbledon champion Alcaraz have now shared the past seven Grand Slam titles between them, with the Italian winning four of those.

Defeat in Paris last month was a bitter blow for Sinner, who led by two sets and squandered three match points in the final.

Prior to Sunday’s victory, he had lost five consecutive times against Alcaraz, including the final of the Italian Open in the first tournament he played after returning from a three-month doping ban.

But this time he turned the tables in impressive fashion.

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz poses with the runner-up trophy following his defeat against Italy’s Jannik Sinner at the end of their men’s singles final tennis match on the fourteenth day of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, southwest London, on July 13, 2025. Both players were solid on serve until the fifth game, when Alcaraz sprayed a forehand long to hand Sinner the first break of the match.

But the Spaniard leveled at 4-4 to the delight of the Centre Court crowd, which included Prince William and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Sinner double-faulted to hand Alcaraz a second set point.

The Italian laced a searing forehand down the line, but Alcaraz produced a magical backhand winner, pointing his finger to his ear as the crowd rose to their feet.

Momentum Shift

Sinner, still wearing a protective white sleeve after his nasty fall in his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov, broke in the first game of the second set and led 3-1 after play was briefly halted by a flying cork.

Sinner shook his racquet after winning the first point as he served for the set and was rewarded with cheers before leveling the match with a whipped forehand.

The third set was a tense affair that went with serve until the ninth game, when Sinner broke as Alcaraz slipped over on the baseline, and he went 2-1 up.

The momentum was now all with Sinner and he broke again in the third game of the fourth set to take the match by the scruff of the neck.

The chance was always there that Alcaraz would produce the magic he found at Roland Garros, but Sinner stayed ice-cool.

The Spaniard had two break points to hit back in the eighth game, but Sinner shut the door impressively.

Sinner stepped up to serve for the championship amid a cacophony of noise, staying focused to seal the deal on his second championship point.

The Italian cruised through the first three rounds at Wimbledon, losing just 17 games—equaling an Open Era record set in 1972.

But he got lucky in the fourth round against inspired Bulgarian 19th seed Dimitrov, who was leading by two sets when he suffered an injury that forced him to quit.

Sinner got back into the groove against 10th seed Ben Shelton in the quarter-finals before demolishing seven-time champion Djokovic in the last four.

Alcaraz had been aiming to become just the fifth man in the Open era to win three consecutive Wimbledons after Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Federer, and Djokovic.
