French Open 2025

Location: Roland Garros, May 25 – June

Naomi Osaka, a four-time major winner, said she “hates disappointing people” after losing to Paula Badosa in the French Open first round.

Following a 2023 maternity break, Japan’s Osaka, 27, took her first title this month.

She saved a set point against Badosa before winning the first-set tie-break, but the Spanish top seed fought back, winning 7-6 (1-7) 6-1 6-4.

After becoming upset, Osaka briefly paused to focus on herself.

I think I should be doing better as the years progress. Osaka, who has worked with Serena Williams’ long-time coach Patrick Mouratoglou, said, “I hate disappointing people.”

“So even with Patrick, I was just thinking about this, but he transitions from working with Patrick to… this,” I thought. You are aware of my intent.

Since resuming play on the WTA Tour following the birth of her daughter Shai in July 2023, the four-time Grand Slam champion has not missed a major.

After the first set against Badosa, she called a medical timeout because she had blisters on her fingers during the match.

Navarro, the ninth seed, is out of a matchup with 6-0, 6-1.

Emma Navarro, the ninth seeded, limped out of the tournament earlier on Monday after only 57 minutes as a result of Jessica Bouzas Maneiro’s 6-0, 6-1 thrashing.

Navarro, who reached the semi-finals of the previous year’s US Open, did not play well on the second day in Paris.

With a winning record of 6-0 5-0, Bouzas Maneiro attempted to become the first woman to defeat a top-10 player with 6-0 6-0 at a Grand Slam since Martina Navratilova defeated world no. 7 Manuela Maleeva in the 1989 US Open.

However, Navarro capitalized on a double error by Bouzas Maneiro, who was 68th overall, to prevent a “double bagel” scoreline.

With victory over Emiliana Arango at the Merida Open in Mexico earlier this year, Navarro won the Merida Open and became only the fifth player to do so in a century.

However, the American only won 44% of her first-serve points and only claimed 30 of the 86 total points.

Garcia bids Paris a sentimental farewell.

Caroline Garcia’s final French Open singles appearance was ended in the first round, defeating Bernarda Pera, a Frenchwoman, 6-4, 6-4.

As she waited on Court Suzanne Lenglen’s 15th and final appearance in the women’s singles at Roland Garros, an emotional Garcia, 31 tears broke.

Her best performance at her home Slam was a quarter-final appearance in 2017 despite making her debut in 2011 and reaching the semifinals in that year.

“It’s been a difficult situation for me because of stress and the desire to do well,” Garcia said on court.

“I’ve always made an effort to give it my all,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to win this singles tournament.

Iga Swiatek, a three-time defending champion, advanced to a meeting with Emma Raducanu from Britain.

Madison Keys, the seventh-seeded Australian Open champion, defeated qualifier Daria Saville 58 minutes later to claim a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Elena Rybakina, a former champion of 12th-ranked tennis, defeated Argentine qualifier Julia Riera 6-1, 4 , 6-4, to win the match.

Daria Kasatkina defeated Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova 6-1, 3 6-3, to claim her first Grand Slam victory as an Australian.

On May 15, Pheobe Bishop, 17, was reported missing and was supposed to take a flight to meet her boyfriend, but she has since been missing. Recently, new details have emerged.

Since May 15, Pheobe Bishop has been missing, and a search is raging for her. Her phone call with her boyfriend and disturbing CCTV footage have since been revealed, along with details about her most recent movements.

The 17-year-old vanished without a trace on May 15 when she was last seen leaving her home in Gin Gin, Queensland. Police believed that Sophie, who had been living with Tanika Bromley and James Wood, was scheduled to board a flight to Brisbane at 7:30 am and then travel to Perth to meet her boyfriend.

The pair drove Pheobe for 40 minutes to Bundaberg Airport, according to detectives. The teenager never arrived on her scheduled flight, but she was dropped off at the airport.

There is no evidence that the couple was involved in her disappearance, despite the fact that they were detained by the police but were later released without charges. Although it is unclear why the teenager lived with the couple, her disappearance was suggested by social media posts she had previously made.

Pheobe called her boyfriend just before she was scheduled to board the flight to Brisbane. She didn’t check in for her flight to see her boyfriend, according to a family member who was speaking to her on the phone at 8:30 am, according to The Sun.

“Her phone has been off at this point,” she declared. No one has ever seen her and she hasn’t contacted anyone at all. “Some reports also claim that none of her social media accounts have been active since she disappeared.” Additionally, it is said that she last used her bank account on May 14, the day before she vanished.

She was never discovered on CCTV despite being 6 feet tall and having red hair as a teenager. However, new CCTV footage emerged that shows a car driving through Gin Gin at 10.30am on the day the teen was last seen, two hours after the teen was believed to have been dropped off at the airport, similar to the one Pheobe had been traveling in before she vanished.

According to The Courier Mail, Bromley owns a Hyundai ix35, which is at the center of this case. Police also made it known that they had discovered an interesting item inside a national park on Friday.

In connection with their investigation, police seized a gray Hyundai ix35, and are now asking the public for information on dashcam or CCTV footage that might help them find the teenager. The Good Night Scrub National Park, which is located just outside Gin Gin and is about an hour’s drive from where Pheobe was last reported to have been seen, was also combbed by search dogs.

Pheobe’s mother described her daughter in a heartfelt statement as the investigation into her disappearance continues despite speculations that there may be a family rift. She remarked, “Who is Pheobe? ” Phee has always had strong will and lived up to her own standards. She’s always been referred to as my “Wild Gypsy Banshee.”

I’ve told everyone since Phee’s birth that she’s the one I’ve always anticipated when I call from abroad and say, “Hey Mumzie, I’m in Amsterdam and checking in,” You can’t control Phee’s spirit, show compassion, or fight for his life. She is sassy, tenacious, and loves people more than anyone I’ve ever met.

Brooklyn Beckham’s ominous warning to little sister Harper before fiery family feud

Brooklyn has counseled his younger sister Harper to focus on herself as the Beckham family is growing in tension.

A growing divide within the Beckham family has become increasingly apparent, with sources claiming that Brooklyn Beckham’s marriage to Nicola Peltz is at the centre of ongoing tensions between the couple and his parents, David and Victoria Beckham. The reported fallout, described as ‘severe’ has led to an apparent estrangement – which hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans.

Recent events have highlighted the strained relationships, including Brooklyn’s absence from his father’s famous 50th birthday celebrations last month, despite the family’s largely public silence on the subject. Brooklyn, 26, and Nicola, 30, did not travel to London for any of the celebrations to mark the milestone, including a family trip to France, a dinner at Core restaurant in Notting Hill, and a private party at the Beckhams’ Cotswolds home.

Less than two miles from the family’s West London home, the couple allegedly failed to let David and Victoria know about their presence in the UK during a photo shoot with the posh fashion label Moncler.

The distance between Brooklyn and his family was further underscored by a recent social media post in which he reaffirmed his commitment to Nicola. “I always choose you baby, you’re the most amazing person in the world, me and you forever baby,” he wrote on Instagram, in what many interpreted as a message of allegiance to his wife.

Cruz, Brooklyn’s younger brother, 20 years old, showed support for their parents shortly afterward. He wrote, “I love my family,” in a personal statement. I can’t tell you how blessed we are to have you in our lives, but I love you guys more than anything. You gave us life and cared for us no matter what.

Brooklyn also shared some words of wisdom he had given his 13-year-old sister Harper in a previous interview conducted before the general public became aware of the family rift. Find the one thing you love and rest your head down, he said, adding, “Find that one thing you love and don’t listen to anyone.”

The Beckhams’ relationship with both Brooklyn and Nicola is said to be particularly affected by the potential impact of this conflict on Harper, who has a long history of enmity with both. In affectionate Instagram posts, Peltz frequently refers to Harper as “my younger sister” and plauds the teen.

Questions remain about Brooklyn’s participation as Harper prepares to celebrate her 14th birthday in July.

David and Victoria made an apparent effort to make a united front at the TIME100 Impact Dinner in New York earlier this week. All four of the couple’s children were reportedly present in a family photo that was taken at Victoria’s birthday.

Brooklyn and his parents have made numerous efforts to reconcile, but there hasn’t been a public indication of a resolution.

Volvo to cut 3,000 jobs amid trade uncertainty

In response to restructuring efforts as prices begin to rise as a result of the uncertainty brought on by tariff-driven uncertainty, Swedish automaker Volvo is planning to eliminate 3, 000 white-collar positions.

On Monday, the business made the announcement. The Swedish automaker’s restructuring efforts to resurrect its rock-bottom share price and stoke up better demand for its vehicles as it lowers costs and reduces costs are being made by the automaker.

In April, Volvo’s CEO Hakan Samuelsson unveiled a program to reduce costs by $1.9 billion (18 billion Swedish crowns), including a significant reduction to the company’s white-collar staff, who make up 40% of its workforce.

According to Samuelsson, “It’s white collar in almost every area, including R&amp, D&nbsp, [research and development], communication, and human resources,”

According to a statement from Volvo Cars, the layoffs would cost the company about 15 percent of its office staff and would require a one-time $ 160 million (1. 5 billion crowns) restructuring.

Fredrik Hansson, the new CFO of Volvo Cars, told Reuters that while all of its divisions and locations would be affected, Gothenburg will experience the majority of the redundancies.

“The way that plays out might vary a little depending on the area, but it’s designed to make us structurally more efficient,” he said. No stone is left unturned, Hansson claimed.

Volvo Cars, one of its European competitors, has said it may become impossible to export its most affordable cars to the US because most of its production is concentrated in China and Europe.

By the third quarter of this year, the company had stated in a press release that it would have finished creating a new structural configuration.

Withdrawing its financial guidance came last month’s announcement of its cost reductions, pointing to erratic markets caused by trade tariffs and consumer confidence that have caused unrest in the world’s auto industry.

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, announced the layoff just days after threatening to impose a 50% tariff on European imports starting on June 1. However, he resisted that date on Monday, reversing the July 9 deadline for talks between Washington and Brussels.

England withstand Matthews brilliance to claim T20 clean sweep

Chelmsford, the third T20

England 144-5 (20 overs): Knight 66* (47), Matthews 3-32

West Indies 127-8 (20 overs): Matthews 71 (54), Bell 2-11

England won the series by 17 runs and 3-0.

In Charlotte Edwards and Nat Sciver-Brunt’s first series in charge, England fought back from 17 runs to win the third and final T20 of all-time champion Hayley Matthews.

In the West Indies’ pursuit of 145 for a consolation win at Chelmsford, Matthews was playing alone, but a rain delay and 48 runs needed from the final 26 balls prevented the chase.

With a stunning 71 from 54 balls in the 18th over, Lauren Bell claimed the game-changing wicket from Matthews for a stunning 109-3.

Bell’s stellar performance included the 2-11 totals of Charlie Dean and Linsey Smith, who both scored two wickets, along with fellow quick Em Arlott and Linsey Smith, who both took two wickets.

In England’s 144-5 victory over the West Indies, Matthews had a much improved bowling performance, but Heather Knight’s unbeaten 66 from 47 balls left England with just enough runs on the board.

After Zaida James’ spin for the second game in a row caused Danni Wyatt-Hodge to bowl her from the first ball of the innings, and Sophia Dunkley was caught behind off Matthews for three, Knight and new captain Sciver-Brunt rebuilt the innings from a 24-2 stuttering powerplay.

The experienced duo added 48 for the third wicket before Sciver-Brunt added 37, and Knight added 42 with wicketkeeper Amy Jones, who scored 22 in a quickfire.

England’s anchor is Superb Knight.

There was much discussion and expectation that Knight’s removal from the England captaincy would give her more freedom to play for her. In her first two knocks, that has already come to fruition.

She scored 43 not out in her first T20 against home at Canterbury and was not required to bat in her second. She then hit 38 balls to complete her strong performance to reach her first international T20 half-century there.

West Indies were compensated for their much more consistent bowling effort by sticking to a straightforward strategy of keeping the stumps in play and squeezing England’s batters as much as possible with a little assistance from a surface that helped their spin-heavy attack.

After England posted their second-lowest T20 powerplay score when they batted first at home, with only two boundaries struck in the opening six overs, it meant that Knight had to work through the gears, focusing on rotating the strike and picking the gaps in her partnership with Sciver-Brunt.

After Sciver-Brunt was caught on the boundary at the end of the eleventh over, Jones’ counter-attacking knock made it easier for Knight to hit an enormous six midwicket and produce a number of cheeky ramps and paddles off the spinners.

Although she struggled between the wickets in the final couple of overs with her injury, her return to the batting ranks has been very encouraging.

Matthews’ vain attempt to perform magic once more

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Matthews’ incredible talent and the team’s unsustainable reliance on her perfectly sum up both her superb talent and the fact that her team won two player of the match awards and was named player of the series.

She has 177 runs scored in three innings, including an unbeaten century in the first match, with Shabika Gajnabi’s 47th as her next highest total overall.

For the first time in women’s T20 internationals, a player had scored 70 or more runs and taken three or more wickets in a losing cause at Chelmsford.

In her knock, she struck 11 fours and a six, smartly and consistently exposing her distinctive lofted drives over cover, which resulted in England being on the verge of a 49-ball winning run.

England’s fielding issues began to deteriorate once more as a result, Sciver-Brunt and Dean dropping Realeanna Grimmond from successive balls off the latter’s own bowling in the eleventh over.

However, England was helped by the rain delay. When the players left the field, they were nine runs ahead of them on Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS), but a four from Matthews and a strong straight six from Gajnabi gave West Indies a run.

However, Smith fought back with two wickets in two balls, including Gajnabi, and Matthews hit Bell’s long-on, slower ball in the next over to all but seal England’s victory.

What they said, “We’ve played some brilliant cricket,”

Nat Sciver-Brunt, England’s captain, said, “We played some brilliant cricket in this T20 series.” Even though today’s game wasn’t perfect, the series’ first two games set the bar very high.

To reach that score was very difficult given how we initially started our innings. We had a hard time with the West Indies. That was the perfect batting effort to help us reach a competitive total.

Hayley Matthews, the player of the match and the series, on Sky Sports: “It was really nice to be able to go out there and score some runs and take some wickets. Today, we felt like we had a more close game than we did today. We’d have loved to cross the line.

“The younger players who have signed here are really happy and very proud of me.”

Ebony Rainford-Brent, winner of the World Cup, said in a BBC Test Match Special: “England should have scored another 20 runs and maybe should have forced wickets more.

King Charles III arrives in Canada amid tension with Trump

In response to President Donald Trump’s calls for an annexation of Canada’s northern neighbor, King Charles III, the British monarch, has arrived in Canada for a two-day visit that officials claim will bolster its support for the nation’s sovereignty.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s party won the general election last month amid Trump’s threats, and the monarch’s trip, which started on Monday, invited him.

After gaining its independence from Great Britain in 1867, Charles is the ceremonial head of state in Canada.

The King will make his first “Speech from the Throne” address in Canada since 1977, which will be delivered by a British monarch on Tuesday.

Charles is expected to convey a message of support for Canada in response to Trump’s statements, despite the British monarch’s recent policy of not interfering with politics and continuing to be a symbol.

According to Ralph Goodale, Canada’s envoy to the United Kingdom, “the prime minister has made it clear that Canada is not for sale now, is not for sale ever.”

The king’s authority and strength will be strengthened by that statement.

As a result of the ongoing trade dispute between the two nations, Canadian officials have publicly refrained from making Trump’s comments that their nation should become the country’s 51st state. Carney told Trump that Canada is “not for sale” during a White House visit this month.

Since becoming king in September 2022, Charles will make his first trip to the former British colony with his wife, Queen Camilla.

The royal couple’s visit has “profound significance,” according to Governor General Mary Simon, the monarch’s ceremonial representative in Canada.

Simon, who is the first Indigenous person to hold the position, said in a statement, “it reaffirms the enduring constitutional bond that has shaped Canada’s journey to become a proud and independent nation.”

The king is unlikely to make any explicit statements against Trump during his visit, according to Justin Vovk, a royal historian at McMaster University.

“They are going to be disappointed if they are expecting to hear Donald Trump mentioned or “the 51st state” mentioned,” Vovk told Al Jazeera. The King is required to operate in a very small constitutional box.

He added that support for Canada will be “concerned in very generic terms.”

According to Buckingham Palace, the royal couple will visit an Ottawa park on Monday and meet with artists and vendors. After planting a tree in another area of the city, the king will perform a ceremonial puck drop to start a street hockey demonstration.
