Man Utd sign Rolfo on two-year deal

Manchester United have signed Sweden international Fridolina Rolfo on a two-year contract.

Rolfo, who usually plays as a left-sided forward, was a free agent after reaching a mutual decision to terminate her Barcelona contract one year early.

The 31-year-old joined Barca from German side Wolfsburg in 2021 and won four Liga F titles and two Champions League trophies, scoring 40 goals in 131 appearances.

United finished third in the WSL last season, which qualified them for the second round of the Champions League.

“I have been fortunate to enjoy lots of success at Barcelona and other clubs I have played for, and now I want the same at Manchester United,” she added.

Rolfo, who has also played for Bayern Munich, has 313 senior club appearances and 113 goals during her career.

Leipzig Sign Striker Romulo As Sesko’s Replacement

RB Leipzig on Friday announced the signing of Brazilian striker Romulo Cardoso from Turkish side Goztepe to replace Benjamin Sesko, who has left for Manchester United.

Romulo, 23, has signed until 2030 for a reported fee of 25 million euros ($29.2 million) including bonuses.

Leipzig badly needed a forward after Sesko’s big-money move to United.

The Slovenian, 22, reportedly cost United 85 million euros.

Romulo scored 13 times and laid on nine assists in 29 league matches last campaign.

Leipzig finished seventh last season, missing out on European football for the first time in the Bundesliga top flight, and have undergone a rebuild in Jurgen Klopp’s first off-season as Red Bull’s global head of football.

The club have signed several promising youngsters ahead of next weekend’s Bundesliga kickoff, including winger Johan Bakayoko and midfielder Arthur Vermeeren.

Silesia Diamond League

Location: Silesia, Poland Date: Saturday, 16 August

Keely Hodgkinson is set to contest her first race since being crowned Olympic 800m champion 12 months ago, after what she has described as a “frustrating” and “upsetting” year.

Hodgkinson, whose return from the hamstring injury she sustained in February has been delayed by setbacks, will make her long-awaited return to competition on Saturday – four weeks before the start of the World Championships in Tokyo.

The 23-year-old British track star, a two-time world silver medallist, will race over 800m in Silesia, Poland, live on the BBC.

“I think tomorrow is just a stepping stone on the way [to the World Championships],” Hodgkinson said at a news conference on Friday.

“I’m looking forward to getting out there and just being competitive again. I’ve come out ready to go, so I’m just excited to put something together.

“It’s been a frustrating year, for real. It has definitely been a bit upsetting at times and missing [July’s Diamond League meeting in] London was hardest for me because it was so good last year and I just wanted to be there in front of my home crowd, especially coming back after the Olympics.

As Hodgkinson’s race is not part of the Diamond League programme in Silesia, it will be streamed live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app from 14:45 BST.

Coverage of the Diamond League events will follow, also available on BBC Two from 15:00-17:00.

Fellow Briton Georgia Hunter Bell will target her third Diamond League win of the season in the 1500m, as the Olympic bronze medallist weighs up whether to target that event in Tokyo, or join Hodgkinson in the 800m.

Hodgkinson and Hunter Bell, who are both coached by Trevor Painter and Jenny Meadows, will then go head to head in the 800m at the Lausanne Diamond League next Wednesday.

Also in Silesia, Dina Asher-Smith takes on world champion Sha’Carri Richardson in the women’s 100m, while Daryll Neita and Amy Hunt are up against two-time world champion Shericka Jackson in the 200m.

World indoor champion Amber Anning is in the women’s 400m, and the men’s 1500m features Neil Gourley.

The 16th Diamond League season is under way as athletics’ Olympic stars build towards their shot at world glory in 2025.

Athletes compete for points in 32 disciplines in a bid to qualify for the finals in Zurich in August.

That takes place just over a fortnight before the start of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

All Diamond League events will be shown on the BBC, which has agreed a deal to broadcast the competition for the next five years.

It is also the first year in which the Diamond League must compete with Michael Johnson’s new Grand Slam Track for athletes’ attention.

However, there has been only one direct clash between the two competitions – with the Miami Slam on 2-4 May taking place at the same time as the meet in Keqiao, China on 3 May.

The Diamond League has increased its prize money to a total of $9.24m (£6.95m) across the series.

How does the Diamond League work?

Athletes compete for points at the 14 regular series meetings which started in April and run through to August.

Points are awarded on a scale from eight for first place to one for eighth place.

After the 14th meeting in Brussels, the top six ranked athletes in the field events, the top eight in track events from 100m up to 800m, and the top 10 in the distances from 1500m upwards qualify for the finals.

The singer, who is married to Hailey Bieber, appeared to have emerged dripping wet from a lake wearing a pair of white Calvin Klein boxer shorts that had turned see-through as he laughed in the pictures with his hand covering his modesty.

He wore a pair of chunky ankle boots and a gold chain around his neck while larking about for the camera in the sunshine.

Responding, one fan said: “Hailey come get your husband.” Another posted: “What is he doing ? He is a married father acting like a teenager on a camping trip with his high school friends.”

This oversized denim tote has travelled the world with me as hand luggage and it’s under £60

I’ve been using the same denim tote bag on repeat for my hand luggage that’s the perfect size to keep all your travel essentials safe and close at hand – and it’s under £60

I can fit everything I need inside Roka’s oversized denim tote bag(Image: Roka/Faith Richardson)

When it comes to travelling, I want to make my life as easy as possible. That means hand luggage that’s easy to carry, practical, and lets me get to everything without having to completely unpack it on the plane.

For my last three flights now, I’ve taken Roka’s Portobello Denim Tote Bag (£59.95) as my carry on bag, and it’s proved to be everything I needed. Plus, it looks effortlessly chic and cool, which is always a nice bonus if you’re having to haul it everywhere.

I’ve managed to fit multiple changes of clothes, a pair of shoes, a water bottle, a laptop, two makeup bags, headphones and a spare jacket into the bag at once with room to spare, making it ideal for long weekend breaks or overnight trips away. But it’s been a lifesaver on long haul flights, giving me plenty of room to pack essentials to see me through the flight without being so tightly crammed that I can’t get to anything.

Having taken backpacks in the past, there’s nothing worse than realising your book or headphones have slipped to the bottom of the bag and you need to pull everything else out to get to them. Whereas the Portobello Denim Tote Bag is long and wide, which makes it easy to rummage around with minimal disruptions.

It is slightly too large to fit into budget airlines “personal items” criteria, but it still fits neatly inside the hand luggage specifications, measuring 48cm x 10cm x 40cm. For reference, Ryanair’s cabin bag size limits are 55cm x 20cm x 40cm, whilst the personal item measurements are 40cm x 20cm x 30cm.

However there are multiple other options of the Portobello bag, including smaller sizes, ones with additional pockets and in a range of colours, so if you want one that’ll fit your flights specifics you can find one on the Roka website. My large denim tote has multiple compartments both inside and out for keeping essentials like passports, money and tickets to hand, not to mention a designated laptop slot for computers up to 15”.

I also love that the Portobello Denim Tote Bag fastens with a large sturdy zip at the top, so you don’t need to worry about anything spilling out. One thing I will mention is that when it’s full, it can get heavy, and as it only has top handles (rather than a cross body strap) it can make it a little tricky to carry around.

You should also watch for the denim dye rubbing off on light coloured fabrics if it has a lot of contact – like when I had my feet tucked under it for almost eight hours on a flight and realised it had stained the toes of my shoes! But popping it through the wash should help get rid of any excess dye if you want to make doubly sure you won’t get any transfer.

There’s also other great travel-friendly totes to shop instead, like Antler’s Essential Tote Bag which you can pick up for £65. It comes in both navy and white, with plenty of pockets and a strap to fix it over your suitcase handle.

You could also shop Lulu Guinness’ Nylon Macy Tote Bag, which is available in both green and navy for £119. The nylon material means it’s easy to keep clean, with a travel-friendly size and straps to slot over your suitcase.

However, my Portobello Denim Tote Bag has proven to withstand just about everything thrown at it, and the denim is so thick and such good quality that it’s never once stretched, snagged or become damaged. Therefore it’s a no-brainer for me; I’ll continue taking it everywhere with me, although it might have to go in the overhead lockers every once in a while.
