Iraq starts mass grave excavation from ISIL (ISIS) carnage south of Mosul

ISIL (ISIS) during its years of carnage against the civilian population, which it seized large swathes of the country from 2014 until its destruction three years later, has begun excavation of what is thought to be a mass grave in Iraq.

According to the state-run Iraqi News Agency, local authorities were coordinating the excavation of al-Khafsa, south of Mosul, with the assistance of the judiciary, forensic investigators, the Iraqi Martyrs Foundation, and the directorate of mass graves.

The site is thought to have been the gruesome setting for some of the worst massacres ever carried out by ISIL, a sinkhole that is about 150 meters (nearly 500 feet) deep and 110 meters (360 ft) wide.

The Martyrs Foundation’s mass graves excavation team, led by Ahmad Qusay al-Asady, announced to The Associated Press that they started working on August 9 at the province’s request.

According to al-Asady, the operation will initially focus on gathering visible human remains and surface evidence, while preparing for a full exhumation, which officials claim will call for international assistance.

The foundation will then begin collecting DNA from suspected victims’ families and creating a database.

Full exhumations can only be performed with expert assistance, such as navigating the site’s hazards, such as sulfur water and unexploded objects. DNA identification may have been hampered by the fact that the human remains may have eroded as a result.

Al-Asady continued, “Al-Khafsa is a very complicated site because of the presence of these elements.”

Authorities estimate that the site may contain at least 4, 000 remains, with the possibility of thousands more, based on unverified accounts from witnesses, families, and other unofficial testimony.

According to Zaid Al-Obeidi, the al-Khasfa site’s sinkhole may be the largest mass grave in recent Iraqi history.

Al-Khasfa is close to Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, where ISIL once seized control before losing in Iraq in late 2017. ISIL’s eradication of Raqqa, the capital of their self-declared “caliphate,” stretched across Iraq and Syria, to the extent that it was half the size of the United Kingdom at its height.

For its brutality, the organization was well-known. The group systematically enslaved thousands of Yazidi women and massacred thousands of Yazidi people. The Yazidis, a long-held sect whose religion is rooted in Zoroastrianism, are still recovering from the horrors of ISIL’s 2014 atrocities against their community in Iraq’s Sinjar district.

According to Rabah Nouri Attiyah, a lawyer who has handled more than 70 cases of missing people in Nineveh, information points to al-Khasfa as “the largest mass grave in contemporary Iraqi history.”

Al-Asady claimed that investigators haven’t yet been able to determine its size.

According to estimates, Yazidis, the army, police, and other victims are the only ones who are credited with about 70% of the estimated human remains in Iraq.

ISIL fighters reportedly took people there by bus to kill them, according to interviews with numerous local witnesses. According to al-Asady, “Many of them were decapitated.”

David Haye to face awkward ‘grilling’ as I’m A Celeb bosses line him up for All Stars spin off

David Haye, the boxing champion from I’m A Celeb’s All Stars spinoff, will likely receive a spot on the next season, according to ITV bosses, with a major topic expected to be discussed around the campfire.

David Haye is expected to return to I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!(Image: ITV)

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! is planning to add boxing champ David Haye to their knockout line-up of the next All Stars spin-off season. The former heavyweight champ, 44, first appeared on the long-running ITV reality show’s twelfth season back in 2012.

And he may be returning to the jungle as one of the All Star contestants for the spin-off series that sees past participants return for another round of stomach churning trials. The first season of the All Stars version, titled I’m a Celebrity… South Africa, aired in 2023 with Myleene Klass being crowned winner.

And now a number of well-known former contestants are being considered for a second trip to the outback, with David one of the prominent names interested in the series. After Charlie Brooks, a star of EastEnders fame, and Ashley Roberts, a Pussycat Dolls runner-up, he finished third when he last took part in the show.

Since then, David’s foray into the world of media stardom has seen him appear in shows including The Big Narstie Show and his own David Haye versus series, which saw him interview and train with major celebrities.

A source told The Sun: “David was delighted to get the call from ITV. As viewers know, no chats are off-limits around the campfire, so they can expect to see David grilled over his quirky relationships.” The Mirror has contacted representatives of David and ITV for comment.

It is expected that the new season of the ITV show will begin filming in the autumn months when a string of other former contestants will return to the wilderness to survive on basic rations. Football icon Harry Redknapp, 78, who won in 2018, and Gemma Collins, 44, who quit the show after three days in 2014, are among names linked to the new season.

A number of familiar faces are expected to jet to Australia in November to film the next season of the main I’m A Celeb series. It will be the 25th outing of the show – which first aired way back in 2002.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will travel Down Under to preside over all the terrifying trials and encourage the celebs to eat revolting meals and drinks. The 2024 season of the show was won by McFly singer Danny Jones.

But the 39-year-old singer has had a difficult few months since he was crowned the king of the jungle. He was shamed in March when video footage emerged of him locking lips with fellow I’m A Celeb 2024 contestant Maura Higgins, of Love Island fame.

Fans of his marriage to Georgia Horsley, a former Miss England winner, were shocked by the video, which has since sparked outrage among his fans. Since 2009, the couple has been married since 2014, and they have been together.

Cooper, their son, was born in 2018, as well. Soon after his extramarital kiss went viral, Danny apologized harshly to his wife.

The McFly singer said in a statement, “I apologize for taking a while to post this, but I’ve taken some time to take some time off to be with those closest to me. My wife and family have been in such a predicament, so I sincerely apologize. We’ll continue to deal with this in private because I adore them so much.

Thank you for your understanding, understanding, and support, I love you all. Danny, I’ll see you soon. A source close to Danny later admitted at the time that he was “murtified” by both the “awful situation he has placed everyone in” and what happened.

Katie Price has reunited with her daughter Princess Andre after her very public fallout with ex-husband Peter Andre. The former glamour model, 47, has seen her romance with the Mysterious Girl hitmaker resurface following a series of bombshell claims.

She has also seen her relationship with Princess come under scrutiny amid rumours of a “rift”. The mum and daughter duo were said to have been at loggerheads after Katie was banned from appearing on the 18-year-old’s TV show, The Princess Diaries.

Katie claimed that her daughter’s management team, who also works with dad Peter, had told her it was advisable not to be seen with her mother in public. It comes after Princess says she’s ‘independent’ from parents as she breaks silence after Katie Price row.

However, it appears that they managed to focus solely on their relationship as they reconciled for a cozy Sunday night together. As they both sat on a sofa together while wearing their pyjamas, Kate proudly snuggled into Princess.

As Katie gushed, “A well-needed catch up with my princess,” the pair yelled for the camera. Priority also made sure to let everyone know how much she enjoyed spending time with her famous mother, as she also shared a photo of their evening and wrote, “Mumzy.”

Following her father’s blistering social media status, Princess made her first public statement on Friday. As one fan asked her on Snapchat, “Does it still affect you now that your parents don’t get along? “

Princess responded, “To be honest, it doesn’t bother me. I don’t even recall their being together because they ended up together when I was two years old.

She continued, “I love my parents and that’s all that matters,” in the video’s opening line. It came just days after Peter, who split from Katie in 2009, released a shocking statement.

He raged, “For sixteen years, I have remained silent in front of my ex-wife and her family out of respect for my children and loved ones,” he said. Today we come to an end.

“I must set the record straight about the most recent comments about my children’s welfare and living conditions. Junior and Princess were placed with me until they were adults in 2018 for well-known reasons and for their safety.

The family courts issued a legally binding order to carry out this agreement in 2019. Out of respect for my children, he continued, “He went on. My ex-wife’s false claims were discovered in publicly available court cases in 2011 and 2015, respectively.

She was also required to apologize to me and my management and pay substantial damages and legal costs. Today, the same lies are being made.

Unfortunately, I haven’t yet addressed any of my lies or baseless accusations. In the upcoming months, those will now be addressed.

Katie then hit back with her own message, where she hit out at “saints and sinners”. She wrote: “I know I will always be seen as a Sinner. That’s fair, I allowed myself to fall into a reliance on drugs and alcohol. At times, I was not the mother I should have been while I struggled with mental illness.

“I’ve occasionally been my bad friend, my awful sibling, and my untrustworthy partner.” I’ve self-medicated, acted inadvertently, and harmed my loved ones.

Katie continued, “I’ve had my reasons, my mental health issues, but I don’t want to make excuses.” I’ve worked to resolve my issues and recognized my shortcomings.

“Sometimes I tried and failed, sometimes I succeeded. Because I want to be there for my children, I’ve gotten out of a suicidal spiral. I’m trying to be the best I can, but I’m not necessarily perfect.

She then criticized “Saints,” who she claimed are occasionally sincere but occasionally not who you would think they are. They play the victim, Katie said, and to succeed in life, they need a villain, or at least a Sinner. They are not able to be the Saint without the Sinner.

Liam Gallagher made a ‘sober’ confession as Oasis launched their gig at Croke Park on Saturday night (August 16). After already taking Cardiff, Heaton Park, Wembley Stadium and Murrayfield Stadium by storm, the Gallagher brothers returned to Ireland for the first time since 2008.

The last time Oasis performed in the country where they once had a holiday home was at Slane Castle, Ireland’s largest music venue. Their two sold-out nights in Dublin were hosted at the home of the GAA, the sports federation responsible for Gaelic football and hurling.

With over 160,000 tickets snapped up, many Irish fans were left disappointed in their attempts to secure the coveted tickets last year, reports the Manchester Evening News. Excitement was mounting throughout the city all day, with plenty of bucket hats being worn to combat the sun and high temperatures. It comes afterLennon decided to snub the Dublin concerts and jetted to Ibiza.

He claimed, “I believe I’m a Croke Park virgin!” Have we played before here? He said, “I don’t know that this is] the soberest I’ve been in Ireland since I was about four or five or something similar.

After giving an outrageous performance with Oasis at Wembley in 2000, Liam made the decision to stop drinking onstage when he is performing. He previously admitted to doing so.

Before the tour began, a source told The Sun: “He intends to be sober before and while on tour with Oasis.” He has actually used alcohol to help him get through the shows before and to prepare.

Later in the evening, Liam confronted the audience’s clapping and Mexican waves as they were referred to as “lunars.”
