Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Nice striker Evann Guessand for £26m plus £4.3m in add-ons.

The 24-year-old Ivory Coast forward scored 12 goals last term and was named player of the season as Nice finished fourth in France’s Ligue 1.

He is expected to have a medical at Villa on Wednesday.

Guessand, who was a target for Crystal Palace, will be Villa’s first major signing of the summer. He follows Yasin Ozcan, who joined from Kasimpasa but has been loaned to Anderlecht, and back-up goalkeeper Marco Bizot who arrived for an undisclosed fee from Brest.

Villa have been looking at striker options since January’s departure of Jhon Duran to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr left them with just Ollie Watkins as their only senior centre-forward. Marcus Rashford spent the second half of the season at Villa on loan but has joined Barcelona.

Guessand made his way through the youth ranks at Nice and signed a four-year contract last summer.

He made his debut for Ivory Coast in June 2024 and has nine caps.

Hulk Hogan, a WWE icon, passed away last month at the age of 71, and his estranged daughter has since suggested that there may have been no foul play.

Hulk Hogan’s daughter has shared a concerning conspiracy theory about the WWE star’s death on social media on Tuesday before sharing a heartfelt tribute to her late father. The wrestling icon, born Terry Gene Bollea, died aged 71 on July 24 after suffering a heart attack.

For years, the retired ex-WWE star hadn’t been in contact with 37-year-old Brooke after their relationship broke down. That same fractured relationship was brought into the spotlight when she shared an emotional tribute on social media following Hogan’s death. It was recently emerged that they had a ‘tearful conversation’ only a few days before he passed away at his home in Florida.

A few days after his death, it was reported that Hogan died from acute myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, per the Pinellas County Forensic Science Centre. It comes after Sir Michael Palin says he is preparing for the end of his life in sad update.

According to documents obtained by PageSix, Hogan allegedly had a history of atrial fibrillation (AFib), a heart condition that is characterized by irregular heartbeats and frequently rapid heartbeats.

The late sports star also had a history of leukaemia, a form of cancer that affects white blood cells known as lymphocytes, according to the documents.

But now, his daughter Brooke reposted an Instagram post promoting an article by radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge that’s titled ‘Quick cremation without autopsy raises questions about Hulk Hogan’s death’.

She added the words: “Exactly”. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Bubba claimed Hogan’s cremation was approved without an autopsy or independent examination by the county medical examiner.

He also made the claim that the wrestler’s mother had already passed away and that someone might have injected something into his dialysis port while he was sleeping to cause a heart attack.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Clearwater Police Department Maj. Nate Burnside stated to reporters, “There were no indications of foul play or suspicious activity.”

No specific date has been given, but his death certificate specifies that he will be cremated at the Bay Area Crematory in Clearwater. A request for cremation on July 31 was confirmed by a spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office. They informed Page Six at the time, “I only know that we have received a request for cremation approval.”

When Brooke phoned into Bubba’s Twitch stream on Tuesday, she was asked for her thoughts on his theories. She said: “‘I do think it’s weird that no autopsy was performed.”

Greenwood nears international return with Jamaica

After receiving citizenship and a Jamaican passport, Mason Greenwood is on the verge of making a comeback to international football.

Greenwood has not captained an international since his only international appearance against Iceland in September 2020. For breaking Covid quarantine guidelines, he and Manchester City’s Phil Foden were both sent home within 48 hours.

For Greenwood to be eligible to play in the World Cup qualifiers against Bermuda and Trinidad and Tobago next month, only a change from the Football Association (FA) to the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) is required.

In February 2023, Greenwood left Manchester United after charges against him, including assault and attempted rape, were dropped.

He went on a temporary loan spell with Spanish club Getafe before signing on a permanent deal with Ligue 1 side Marseille in 2024.

The 23-year-old scored in Marseille’s pre-season 1-1 draw with Sevilla over the weekend and has been linked with moves to Inter Milan and Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia.

Greenwood is a part of Jamaica’s renewed effort to recruit players from the UK through their family connections, led by former England boss Steve McClaren.

Rico Henry of Brentford and Tyrese Hall of Tottenham, both of whom have signed for Notts County on loan, both fall under that umbrella.

Francis Ford Coppola ‘hospitalised in Rome’ after attending film festival

Francis Ford Coppola, the director, is reportedly in a hospital in Rome. The Godfather director, 86, was in Italy to promote his film Megalopolis, which stars Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito, for the Magna Grecia Festival in Calabria.

The movie director, according to what reports, entered the hospital this morning for scheduled heart surgery, but after arriving, he reportedly had a mild cardiac arrhythmia and was then observed before the procedure.

According to ANSA, he spent a lot of time in Italy this summer scouting locations for his upcoming film, which is scheduled to premiere this fall.

Francis Ford Coppola reportedly spent time in the hospital (Getty Images).

He told the audience at the film festival, “Young people tell me the world is a mess, but I tell them there is no problem humanity can’t fix.” For the sake of our children, we must work together to create a fantastic new future. And tonight, we’re making a big future leap.

His representatives have contacted The Mirror for comment.

Following a screening of Megalopolis, the Apocalypse Now director made an appearance at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts earlier this month to speak at a Q&A session.

Adam Driver stars as a wealthy and tortured visionary trying to build a utopian city while rowing with a conservative mayor in the decades-in-the-making project, which received mixed reviews. The movie grossed just over $ 14 million worldwide, compared to a whopping $ 120 million.

Coppola, however, said: “I lost my wife a year ago, around this time. I wasn’t bothered by the box office results. However, I always lived my life so that when I was about to pass away, I wouldn’t say, “Oh, I wish I had done this and I wish I had done that.” Instead, I tell myself, “I have to do this.”

“It was great to see my daughter win an Oscar.” My father won an Oscar, I watched. When I pass away, I won’t notice because I will be so busy saying all the things I have to do. I won’t be able to see it when I pass away. You are aware of the unexpected shutoff of your electric toothbrush? That is how death works.
