The Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), which is scheduled to take place in Yokohama from August 20 to August 22, has President Bola Tinubu visiting Japan.

Southampton’s Hundred women’s competition

Southern grit 161-6 (100 balls): Wolvaardt 36 (19), Franklin 2-28

Oval Invincibles 72 all out (83 balls): Wellington 18 (18), Villiers 3-17

By 89 runs, Southern grit won.

Southern grit won the 89-run victory over Oval Invincibles, which is the largest margin in women’s cricket history.

Their fifth straight victory over Birmingham Phoenix equaled a previous record set on Sunday when London Spirit defeated Birmingham Phoenix by 88 runs.

The visiting side was bowled out for 72 by Mady Villiers (3-17), Maia Bouchier (34), Danni Wyatt-Hodge (26), and Laura Wolvaardt (36), while Brave’s formidable top-order of Maia Bouchier (34), Danni Wyatt-Hodge (26), and Mady Villiers (34), propelled them to a strong 161-6.

In the absence of three Sophie Devine balls inside the powerplay, the Invincibles struggled to hit their target in the toss, losing openers Lauren Winfield-Hill and Meg Lanning.

Bell then removed her international team-mates Paige Scholfield and Alice Capsey with successive deliveries before Villiers replaced Marizanne Kapp and Phoebe Franklin for a 43-6 victory over Invincibles.

No other Invincibles batter passed any of the resistance, but Amanda-Jade Wellington did, scoring an unbeaten run-a-ball 18 without allowing any other batter.

With 17 balls left, Invincibles’ terrible effort came to an end with debutant Daisy Gibb, who was the last batter to fall, caught by Villiers off Georgia Adams.

Strong marker fought

The Hundred returns to form in 2025, making them the only unbeaten team in either season.

The Southampton-based side reached the final of the women’s tournament’s first three editions, winning in 2023 and losing just once as they dropped to the bottom of the standings.

They lost to the Invincibles in their first two final games, but they have always enjoyed their group-stage victories against the London side, which they have won four of their previous encounters.

With openers Bouchier and Wyatt-Hodge putting on a 59th partnership, they were immediately in a strong position to keep winning.

Bouchier had three single-figure seasons in the first three, but her fortunes seem to have changed since Saturday’s 30-ball 42 against the Trent Rockets.

In addition, Freya Kemp hit back-to-back sixes in an 11-ball 24 while Wolvaardt, the captain of South Africa, recorded her fourth score over 25 in five games.

Sophie Devine’s dismissal of Winfield-Hill and Lanning marked her fourth consecutive victory against them in the space of a set of five deliveries this year, while Lauren Bell immediately topped the tournament’s wicket-taking charts with 12 and Lauren Bell firmly took 12 in defense of their total.

What’s going on Tuesday?

On Tuesday, Trent Rockets and Manchester Originals will play a double-header at Trent Bridge.

The men’s game begins at 18:30 BST, while the women’s game begins at 15:00 BST.

On the show, Pete, 37, and Jowita, 30, reportedly struck up a close friendship, with some speculating that their romance might have even come to an end. Former I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Vicky, 37, was announced as one of the celebrities taking part in this year’s Strictly last week.

Speaking on her Get a Grip Podcast with Angela Scanlon, Vicky said: “I do feel a certain level of anxiety over my instructor because I was talking to Pete about it and Pete was saying, Jowita who he danced with last year was the perfect partner for him in every way.

I feel very anxious because of the chemistry and how she handled him, and how she handled it all. We are going to have this event where you all go, all the celebrities, and I’m going to meet everyone for the first time, and we’ll all start learning this difficult group dance technique together.

Angela compared the experience to her “first day at school.” There is definitely a like where everyone is checking everyone out, she continued.

Everyone is very awkward, but it almost feels like their first day of school. It’s incredibly nerve-wracking.

Vicky, who was chosen as one of the Strictly contestants, said, “I’m absolutely buzzing to be a part of this year’s Strictly Come Dancing lineup, but I wouldn’t lie if I said I wasn’t terrified. I don’t have a talent for dancing!

“I just really hope I don’t make a fool of myself because it’s such an amazing opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone and take new challenges,” says the author.

Pete admitted he grew “really close” to Jowita, who was only able to sneak a sneak peek into the final of Strictly last year. He addressed rumors about their relationship by saying, “I think it’s the press that thinks that.” We’ve said this since day one that we’re really good friends, but they only want to do what they want to do.

We, to be honest, don’t bother with it. Because you and I spend so much time together and we get along so well, we’ve come a long way together.

Koen Olthuis: Why the future of cities may be floating

Can rising seas protect floating cities? It’s time to live with water, not fight it, says architect Koen Olthuis.

Dutch architect Koen Olthuis claims that floating cities are the answer to climate change’s push up of sea levels. His vision combines architecture and adaptation, with luxury residences in the Netherlands and sustainable floating schools in slums and entire island communities in the Maldives. However, will only the wealthy remain dry if floating design is truly an inclusive solution? Olthuis explains why living on water may be the only option in this Talk to Al Jazeera episode.

Amorim uses Ferguson tactic to defend Man Utd keeper call

When Ruben Amorim was asked a question at Old Trafford on Sunday that caused him to flinch back and raise eyebrows in disbelief 55 seconds into a post-match press conference that lasted less than three and a half minutes.

His goalkeeper was being asked about his selection of veteran former England international Tom Heaton ahead of Altay Bayindir in the Premier League defeat suffered by Arsenal.

“Why”? came the response, and it remained unwavering in the gaze.

When Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of Manchester United, the exchange that was once commonplace.

In essence, journalists frequently posed questions that Ferguson either thought were genuinely absurd or threatened to expose a weakness. Ferguson argued that a fierce rebuttal and a wagon circle would be required.

Ferguson’s adage, “You are either with us or against us,” was true. The Scot frequently treated journalists’ opinions with scorn, regardless of their validity, because he was aware that almost every journalist was in the “for us” camp.

Amorim spoke with Ferguson just over a week ago when United’s new training facility opened. Is it still possible to debate how to deal with the media.

However, Amorim certainly tried to use this summer to foster a close relationship with his team, which is what led to Sunday’s unfolding.

When a transfer window is about to close, circumstances can quickly change, and it’s well known that Andre Onana’s former club Inter Milan are interested in acquiring a new goalkeeper. However, those at United still believe there won’t be any additions to that group on Monday.

With the funding available to the club this summer, United made the decision to change their attacking positions. The word coming out of Old Trafford was that the Italian goalkeeper would not be heading their way when it became clear that Gianluigi Donnarumma was likely available because he is no longer needed at Paris St Germain. It is not believed that this position has changed.

Amorim is likely to have been persuaded to pick Onana against Arsenal. After all, it couldn’t have been clearer who his first choice was when the 29-year-old was chosen for the Europa League final in May despite making well-known errors prior to the defeat by Tottenham in Bilbao.

However, despite Amorim claiming in his pre-game press conference on Friday afternoon that he was ready to face Mikel Arteta’s side by kick-off, he only had three full training sessions to go before he injured his hamstring early in July.

Amorim believed Bayindir had done well in Onana’s absence during a summer campaign against three different nations where United remained unbeaten and the 27-year-old had played three and a half of the five games.

On this basis, Amorim came to the conclusion that axering Bayindir, who in his eyes had done nothing wrong, and Onana, whose fitness had to be decided on trust, would be the wrong course of action for players to adhere to his “group” philosophy.

After all, if former England goalkeeper Joe Hart could have told BBC Radio 5 Live that despite initially wanting to defend Bayindir and having seen a replay of the goal, he still believed the player had acted unfairly and could have used one hand to force William Saliba out of his way as he punched the ball with the other, Amorim was held accountable.

The former Sporting boss retorted, “He suffered a goal like this where,” with force. He countered that Bayindir had conceded in a similar manner when it was given to him, having previously been unable to deal with a set-piece that had been superbly delivered under his crossbar.

Amorim responded immediately when the game was mentioned, which was an EFL Cup match between Tottenham and Tottenham last December, “Without VAR,” he said. It’s a foul with VAR, they say.

Amorim continued his offensive by mentioning Bayindir’s next appearance, the FA Cup third round match against Arsenal, where his goalkeeper won the man of the match in a shocking penalty shootout victory.

“You can’t recall the game,” you say? Without giving his inquisitor a chance to respond, Amorim said. “I can recall the game. “Altay was unbelievable.”

And Amorim subsequently made the call from yesterday.

Onana was left out of the squad, he continued. Without playing a game or getting trained, after just one week.

Amorim was then asked if he liked his three goalkeepers twice. On the first occasion, he discussed the situation. When he was again questioned, his reply confirmed that he was correct, as if to say, “Are you actually listening to me?”

He left twenty seconds later.

Amorim won’t be able to tell the media until Friday, when he is almost certain to be asked who will play for Fulham on Sunday at Craven Cottage, and he is also likely to decline to say.

The majority of people anticipate that Onana will answer the call.
