England men’s and women’s hockey teams both failed to reach the semi-finals of the 2025 EuroHockey Championships after disappointing defeats in Germany.
The women’s side were beaten 2-1 by Spain in Pool B, while the men’s team suffered a shock 3-2 loss to France in Pool C.
It was Spain’s first victory over England in normal time of the women’s Euros for 30 years, and secured qualification for the Hockey World Cup in 2026.
France have reached their first men’s Euros semi-final since 1970 thanks to a last-gasp winner against England.
Spain opened the scoring against England through Luciana Molino in the first quarter, before Tessa Howard equalised with a field goal two minutes later.
Lucia Jimenez scored the decisive goal for Spain in the second half, sending them through to the semi-finals at the expense of England, who had beaten Scotland 3-0 in their opening game.
England’s men, meanwhile, who defeated Poland 5-0 in their opening game, followed by a 1-1 draw with Germany, took the lead on 10 minutes against France through Stuart Rushmore, before an Amaury Bellenger equaliser in the third quarter.
EXCLUSIVE: Body language expert Judi James has shared her thoughts on Taylor Swift’s sexed up new album artwork and worries that it may alienate her huge fanbase

Taylor Swift’s racy album artwork risks alienating her colossal fanbase, an expert has said.
The global megastar, 35, today confirmed the release of her latest album following weeks of speculation. The pop star appeared on a podcast with her boyfriend, Super Bowl champ Travis Kelce, and his brother Jason, which over 1.3 million people tuned in for the live event.
But while Taylor is notoriously private and rarely gives interviews, the Bad Blood songstress offered an insight into the record, which will be released in October. Her new record, which she wrote on her Eras Tour and recorded to in Sweden, will feature 12 tracks, including a duet with Sabrina Carpenter.

Speaking about the album, Taylor said: “This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.” It comes after Taylor Swift announces Sabrina Carpenter duet and The Life of a Showgirl release date.
And Taylor looks very different on the album artwork for her new record – a move which could unknowingly be detrimental to her success.

Sharing her expertise on Taylor’s racy new artwork, body language expert Judi James says: “Showgirl chic is all about contrived sexiness. Every move, pose, spangle and feather has to be perfectly placed, making it as wholesome as sliced white bread, which makes it the ideal new brand for family stars like Kylie Minogue and now Taylor Swift.”
Taylor could be entering a new ear and it seems as though she’s ready to drop the ‘girl next door’ demeanor for a sexier and more confident aura for her new album.
“For Taylor it seems to be her ‘coming of age’ look after her long period of looking preppy and cute.

But there’s no sign of rebellion or even change of personality here: her poses and her outfits seem to provide adequate shocks to keep her relevant but without suggesting for one minute that she’s losing her grip on the Swiftie market,” Judi says.
“Her poses here mimic glamour model looks but without the raunchiness or flirting. She doesn’t look upholstered by fillers or implants but she does look like a woman comfortable in her own body. It has a ‘dress-up doll’ appeal rather than a look to attract a new group of drooling fans. “
However, Taylor’s sexy new look has been well thought out, and it’s not just a coincidence. Judi says of her new demeanor: “Like everything else Taylor does, this re-branding looks well thought-out and deliberate rather than change-desperate.
The singer has debuted a much sexier look than usual for her new album(Image: INSTAGRAM)
“The look places her up there in the market that includes other icons like Beyonce and Cher but without compromising her teen spirit fans.
“Her facial expressions here lack the sensuality that might alienate her from her fanbase. She’s still very much Taylor and her body language doesn’t seem to signal any huge lifestyle switch-up.
“The look will clearly work in a large stadium but she’ll still look like the woman going home afterwards in her preppy kilts, clutching Travis’s hand like America’s sweetheart on her first date.”

A British man accused of driving his vehicle into crowds celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League title win faces an additional 24 criminal charges, prosecutors have revealed at his latest court hearing.
Former British marine Paul Doyle, 53, appeared tearful as he joined the hearing on Thursday at Liverpool Crown Court via videolink from prison, when details of the new counts stemming from the May 26 incident emerged.
Merseyside Police now say 134 people were injured when Doyle allegedly drove his Ford Galaxy Titanium into crowds who were leaving Liverpool’s waterfront after a victory parade.
The 31 charges in total now filed involve 29 victims, aged between six months and 77, the court heard.
Six relate to children, including two babies – one aged six months at the time and one aged seven months – who were injured when the car hit people massed on Water Street in the city centre.
Supporters of the city’s world-famous football team had thronged its streets to celebrate the club’s record-equalling 20th English top-flight title when scenes of joy turned to horror.
Doyle, a father-of-three from the Croxteth neighbourhood in the city, was initially charged with seven offences, including dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He now faces multiple additional counts under that and other charges, including 19 for attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, three of wounding with intent, and one of affray.
Doyle, wearing a grey T-shirt, did not enter any pleas during the 20-minute hearing, which several relatives of the victims and more than 20 members of the media attended.
Judge Andrew Menary adjourned the case until September 4, when Doyle is expected to enter pleas.

The Premier League does not prohibit players or its own staff members from participating in FPL, but clubs can have their own rules on playing the game.
Arsenal, Bournemouth and West Ham all allow footballers and staff to play. Fulham players and staff can also participate, but staff are advised that they should avoid picking players from Fulham in their teams.
All other Premier League clubs have been approached for comment by BBC Sport.
Current Newcastle players Aaron Ramsdale, Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes, Fabian Schar and Kieran Trippier have been known to be FPL players in previous seasons.

Who: Liverpool vs Bournmouth What: English Premier League Where: Anfield, Liverpool in United Kingdom When: Friday, August 14, at 8pm (19:00 GMT)
How to follow: We’ll have all the build-up on Al Jazeera Sport from 4pm (15:00 GMT) in advance of our live text commentary stream.
The new Premier League season kicks off with champions Liverpool entertaining Bournemouth on Friday.
The 20-team English top-flight – still regarded as the best domestic league in world football – will run to Sunday, May 24.
Al Jazeera Sport takes a look at the season opener at Anfield that will kick it off.
Who is Liverpool’s biggest rival?
Liverpool won the Premier League title by a staggering 10 points, while taking their foot off the gas at the end, in Arne Slot’s first season in charge. The previous season’s champions, Manchester City, suffered a shocking start from which their attempt to win a fifth-straight title never recovered. Arsenal finished second for a third consecutive season and were the Reds’ biggest challengers.
Both sides are expected to push Slot’s side all the way this season, while Chelsea will be in sharp focus following their FIFA Club World Cup final success against UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle and Aston Villa have both been upstarts in recent years, while Manchester United and Tottenham have fallen away. A challenge from any of those four would come as more than a mild surprise.

Who has Liverpool signed for the new season?
Liverpool have been busy in the summer transfer window with Florian Wirtz’s arrival from Bayer Leverkusen, for $156m, heading up an impressive list that includes French forward Hugo Ekitike and Dutch wide man Jeremie Frimpong.
Slot also revealed on Thursday that highly-regarded 18-year-old defender Giovanni Leoni will be joining from Parma. The Reds have also been heavily linked with moves for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Caoimhin Kelleher have all departed this summer, while the club is still coming to terms with the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash last month.

What business has Bournemouth conducted?
The Cherries manager, Andoni Iraola, will have to find a way to cope with the loss of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Dean Huijsen, Illia Zabarnyi and Milos Kerkez, who all moved on from the Bournemouth backline in the summer, the latter joining Liverpool.
Goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has been brought in from Chelsea for 25 million pounds ($33.9m), while defenders Adrien Truffert and Julio Soler have arrived from Rennes and Lanus, respectively.
Has Liverpool ever lost to Bournemouth?
Yes. Bournemouth have twice beaten Liverpool in 24 previous meetings. The Reds have been overwhelmingly the better side in encounters between the sides, returning 19 wins in that time.
How many Premier League titles have Liverpool won?
Last season’s Premier League success took Liverpool’s number of English top-flight titles to 20, level with fierce rivals Manchester United.
Has Bournemouth ever won a trophy?
No. The south-coast club’s 2015 Championship win, the second tier of English football, remains their most high-profile success.
What the Liverpool manager said
Arne Slot: “The main reason that (winning the title) is so difficult is because there are so many competitors who can win the league.
“It’s unbelievable if you are able to do it in this league. This year will be even harder than before.
“We have lost five to six players who played quite a lot of minutes last season, and brought in four, so it’s normal there is adaptation.”
The new season starts here.

Joe Gomez is struggling with an Achilles injury, while fellow defender Conor Bradley has a muscular problem. Both are expected to miss out.
Bournemouth team news
Enes Unal and Lewis Cook both remain long-term absentees due to knee problems.
Ryan Christie, Luis Sinisterra and Justin Kluivert are all nearing returns but it is believed this game will come too soon for all three.
Liverpool predicted starting lineup:
Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike
