Metro Bank One-Day Cup Group B, Clifton Park, York

Yorkshire 247 (48.4 overs): Revis 85, Hill 41; Ball 4-34

Somerset 252-4 (49.1 overs): Vaughan 95, J Rew 53*; Revis 2-30

Four-wicket seamer Jake Ball and opener Archie Vaughan, with a career-best 95, starred as Somerset ended Yorkshire’s 100% start to this season’s One-Day Cup.

Somerset joined their hosts on 12 points at the top of the Group B table courtesy of this six-wicket win at York with five balls remaining.

Both counties have won three and lost one at the halfway point of the group stage and while Yorkshire still hold sway courtesy of a superior net run-rate, they were second best on a used Clifton Park pitch.

Yorkshire lost wickets in clusters at either end of a scrambling innings which saw Ball take an excellent 4-34 from 9.4 overs and Matthew Revis top-score with a middle-order List A best of 85 off as many balls.

Yorkshire, inserted, slumped to 28-3 inside 10 overs.

Without injured in-form opener Imam-Ul-Haq (hip), they lost Adam Lyth bowled by a beauty from Ball, Will Luxton run out next ball and James Wharton caught behind one-handed going low to his right by James Rew off Ben Green.

Luxton misjudged a push to mid-off, where Josh Thomas mis-fielded before recovering to throw the non-striker’s stumps down.

Revis, who hit nine fours, held things together on the pitch used for Tuesday’s win over Lancashire, with Yorkshire compiling nothing more than a workable total.

Fin Bean, on 28, cut 18-year-old debutant seamer James Theedom to backward point with the score on 72 in the 18th over.

Revis reached a 49-ball 50 shortly before Yorkshire reached the halfway mark in their innings at 115-4.

He found an ally in fellow all-rounder George Hill. They calmly shared a recovery fifth-wicket partnership of 102.

Yorkshire then lost four quick wickets, including Revis and Hill caught pulling, as the score fell from 174-5 in the 36th over to 204-8 in the 42nd. Green’s second wicket accounted for Revis, 34-year-old Ball’s second was Hill for 41.

Tom Lammonby’s left-arm seam also claimed two wickets in that period.

Dan Moriarty heaved the only two sixes of Yorkshire’s innings in a career-best 30 before holing out to cover as Ball struck twice in the 49th over to wrap things up.

Opener Vaughan, in his first competitive senior career appearance against his birth county, steered Somerset’s stress-free chase.

Lammonby was well caught at deep gully by Lyth off Hill en-route to 48-1 after 10 overs before 19-year-old Vaughan shared a second-wicket partnership of 70 with Lewis Goldsworthy (30).

Vaughan reached his fifty off 65 balls but Goldsworthy fell at 111-2 in the 25th over when he top-edged a pull at Revis to long-leg.

Vaughan continued on unflustered, sharing 64 with his captain James Rew. But he was bowled looking to go over the top against Dom Bess’s off-spin. Still, at 175-3 in the 38th, Somerset were in a strong position.

James Rew finished unbeaten 53 off 62, while brother Thomas also contributed 31.

Lawyers in Brazil submit final statement for Bolsonaro in coup trial

Lawyers have submitted a final statement on behalf of Brazilian ex-President Jair Bolsonaro in a trial focused on his alleged role in a plot to stay in power despite losing the 2022 election.

In a statement submitted on Wednesday evening, Bolsonaro’s legal representatives denied the charges against him and said that prosecutors had presented no convincing evidence.

“There is no way to convict Jair Bolsonaro based on the evidence presented in the case, which largely demonstrated that he ordered the transition … and assured his voters that the world would not end on December 31st,” the document states.

The right-wing former president faces up to 12 years in prison if convicted of attempting to mount a coup after losing a presidential election to left-wing rival and current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Bolsonaro, who raised alarm in the months leading up to the election by casting doubt on the voting process, has denied involvement in the plot, which allegedly included plans for Lula’s assassination.

The former leader’s legal representatives say the fact that he authorised the transition contradicts the coup allegations.

“This is evidence that eliminates the most essential of the accusatory premises,” they said.

Prosecutor-General Paulo Gonet submitted final arguments in July, citing handwritten notes, digital files, message exchanges, and spreadsheets that he said show details of a conspiracy to suppress democracy.

Following Bolsonaro’s election loss, crowds of his supporters gathered outside of military bases, calling on the armed forces to intervene and prevent Lula from taking office. A group of Bolsonaro’s supporters also stormed federal buildings in the capital of Brasilia on January 8, 2023. Some drew parallels to a military coup in the 1960s that marked the beginning of a decades-long period of dictatorship, for which Bolsonaro himself has long expressed fondness.

Bolsonaro and his allies, including United States President Donald Trump, have depicted the trial as a politically motivated “witch hunt”.

A recent survey conducted by Datafolha, a Brazilian polling institute, found that more than 50 percent of Brazilians agree with the court’s decision to place Bolsonaro under house arrest in August. The survey also found that a majority believe that Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, a frequent target of right-wing ire and central figure in the trial, is following the law.

Respondents also largely disagreed with the claim that Bolsonaro was being persecuted for political reasons, with 39 percent in agreement and 53 percent in disagreement.

Speaking from the White House on Thursday, Trump said Bolsonaro was an “honest man” and the victim of an attempted “political execution”.

Katie Price ‘will no longer be gaslit’ as she responds to Peter Andre’s bombshell claims

Reality TV star Katie Price has spoken out after her ex-husband Peter Andre issued a statement about her. He criticised her in a lengthy post in which he accused her of making “repeated lies” in the years since they split up.

Katie, 47, and Peter, 52, have been separated since 2009, with the former couple having began their relationship after meeting on I’m A Celebrity in 2004. The exes are parents to kids Junior Andre, 20, and Princess Andre, 18, together.

Peter hit out at Katie in a statement earlier today, in which he accused her of making “repeated lies” and said that he wanted to “set the record straight”. Katie’s team has since reacted to the comments by her ex-husband.

A spokesperson for Katie told the Mirror: “Kate is in a much better and clear headspace and is at peace with the situation, this was in the past and she doesn’t feel the need to bring up tit for tat comments, but more importantly she’s dealing with this the right way and it’s now in her lawyers hands. Kate will no longer be gaslighted and bullied as she once was…”

Peter issued his statement about Katie this evening, writing in a post on Instagram: “For sixteen years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today.

“The latest comments about my children’s welfare and living arrangements compel me to set the record straight. For well-documented reasons, and for their safety, Junior and Princess came into my care in 2018 and remained with me until they reached adulthood. In 2019, the family courts issued a legally binding order to enforce this arrangement. I have never made this public before, out of respect for my children.”

He continued: “In 2011 and 2015, publicly documented court cases, found my ex-wife had made false claims. She was ordered to pay substantial damages and legal costs, and to apologise, to me and my management. The same falsehoods are being repeated today.”

Peter concluded by telling his followers in the statement: “Unfortunately, there are many more lies and baseless accusations I have yet to address. Those will now be dealt with in the coming months.”

Earlier this month, Katie hit out at her ex-husband and his management the CAN Group, who used to manage her too, amid the release of their daughter’s new show the Princess Diaries. She claimed that she hasn’t been allowed to be involved or help guide Princess in her career. She said that she’s “upset” that her daughter is being managed by Peter’s management, who she claimed consider Katie to be “trash”.

The former glamour model spoke out about the Princess Diaries ahead of its launch on ITV. On her podcast, the Katie Price Show, she told listeners that she’s “very upset” that the CAN Group are managing her daughter Princess’ career.

Katie, who noted that the model is following a similar career path, said: “I have not been allowed to go on any photoshoot, no signings or Superdrug openings or anything like that. Why? Because I’m not allowed and I’m not welcome.”

She also told fans that Princess lives with her. Whilst dismissing rumours of a feud with her, she said: “We get on like best friends, mother and daughter. Princess lives with me and she stays at her dad’s. Now, she’s been staying at her dad’s the past two months because she’s been filming her show.”

The CAN Group later issued a statement. It read: “As a company, our duty of care to our clients is paramount. We would never advise a client on their personal life unless asked and we have never stopped anyone seeing their families.”

More recently, Katie had called for a meeting with Peter and her former management the CAN Group. As previously reported, she said on her podcast: “I feel like I’ve missed out on so much and it’s so not fair to bring Princess as piggy in the middle so I think it’s about time all of us adults just sit down and talk about what their beef is with me and just get over it. Life would be such more at peace.”

Salford executive quits after alleged misogynistic slur

Salford Red Devils chief operating officer Claire Bradbury has quit her role at the troubled Super League outfit and alleged the club’s ownership suggested she “sleep with someone at the Rugby Football League” to ease their situation.

She joined Salford in October 2024 after more than three years working at Premiership rugby side Sale Sharks – but has resigned after less than a year with the Red Devils.

Salford have said they “condemn inappropriate language and behaviour” and will be conducting “a thorough internal investigation” into Bradbury’s allegations.

“It’s important to share something more personal, as a senior woman in business,” Bradbury posted on networking site LinkedIn in relation to her resignation.

“Misogynistic, inappropriate language from the ownership suggesting I sleep with an individual at the RFL to ‘smooth things over’ is not acceptable.

“At the time I stayed quiet because I wanted the club to succeed.

“I’m disappointed in myself that I didn’t stand up to it then so I’m voicing it now as it should be heard for the integrity and evolution of rugby league, and for all women who work in sport.”

In response to Bradbury’s allegations, a supporters’ group – The 1873 – has called off a planned meeting with the club’s ownership.

A “peaceful protest march” to the ground before Sunday’s fixture with Wakefield Trinity is still going ahead and they have now invited “all rugby league fans to stand with us”.

Responding to Bradbury’s claims, Salford’s statement said: “It has been alleged by a former member of the Salford Red Devils staff, who departed the club on 12 August 2025, that she was subjected to inappropriate verbal conduct by the owners of the club.

“Salford Red Devils unequivocally condemns any and all forms of inappropriate language and behaviour. We treat such allegations with the utmost seriousness and are committed to ensuring that our club environment remains respectful, professional, and safe for all members of staff.

“In response to these allegations, we will be conducting a thorough internal investigation. We are determined to establish the facts and take any necessary action to address the situation. We will provide a detailed report of our findings as soon as the investigation is concluded.”

Salford, who were taken over by a consortium just before the start of the season, have had a number of financial issues this year, leading to the vast majority of their senior players leaving and the struggling side bottom of Super League.

Earlier on Thursday, prior to Bradbury’s resignation, Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham told BBC Radio Manchester he had been “watching the situation very closely”.

After last Sunday’s dismal 80-6 defeat at Hull FC, where five players made their debuts and some of the squad only met for the first time on the bus to the game, the owners issued a statement on Monday to say the club would not close despite their ongoing problems.

Bradbury said she and her colleagues had been left working in “impossible” conditions and the “club’s soul was being ripped out”.

“My decision to resign was not taken lightly,” she added.

It doesn’t look like former couple Peter Andre and Katie Price will be reminiscing over old times any time soon as their bitter feud reaches new heights.

This evening, just hours on from Katie offering her ex-husband an olive branch by proposing a ceasefire to their years-long back and forths, Peter issued a bombshell statement on social media making it quite clear he has no intention of sitting down to chat with his former spouse.

Katie had reached out to Peter via her podcast following the row over her daughter Princess Andre’s new ITV documentary programme. The mum-of-five, 47, put forward the idea that she and Peter, 52, should have a face-to-face discussion following the 16-year-long dispute.

Taking to his Instagram Stories tonight, Peter made it very clear he has no desire to catch up with his ex-wife as he shared a damning statement – making a number of new claims regarding the custody of the two children they share together.

Peter’s statement in full reads: “For sixteen years, I have stayed silent in the face of repeated lies from my ex-wife and her family, out of respect for my children and loved ones, but staying silent has been incredibly frustrating. That ends today.

In the latest episode of The Katie Price Show podcast released today, Katie proposed a truce in the wake of the controversy surrounding their daughter Princess’ ITV documentary series.

Peter’s furious statement was shared on his Instagram Stories

Tensions seemed to escalate recently when Katie expressed her disappointment on her podcast about not being included in the filming of The Princess Diaries, as the 18 year old’s career soars.

Just last week, Katie revealed she was “very very upset” claiming she had been excluded from her daughter’s latest career achievements and insisted she had begged to participate in the TV series but was denied.

Following the backlash from her remarks, where she faced allegations of jealousy and attention-seeking, the former Page 3 star has once again spoken out, asserting she only wants to be there to support her teenage daughter.

Speaking on her podcast today, Katie proposed a face-to-face discussion with Peter and her former management The CAN Group, stating: “I feel like I’ve missed out on so much and it’s so not fair to bring Princess as piggy in the middle so I think it’s about time all of us adults just sit down and talk about what their beef is with me and just get over it. Life would be such more at peace.”

She also expressed wishes for herself and Peter to back their children together. Katie proposed: “There’s no reason why both parents can’t be there to support her.”

Katie went on to add: “I have to clarify this; I don’t care that I’m not in Princess’ show I don’t need to raise my profile by being in Princess’ show I do enough stuff. I’m in the press every day. All what I want to do is just whatever my daughter does – and it’s the same with Junior – I don’t care if I’m in the background, but I wanna watch her photoshoots, I wanna watch her do her signings – because that’s what I did and my mum and you [sister Sophie Price] and nan used to come along and support and I’m proud of her and I just wanna be there with her.”

“I’m not saying I have to stand with them and play happy families. I’ve missed out so much with Princess. I haven’t watched the show but people have told me how proud I should be of the kids and how they, Princess, does talk highly of me all the way through it. So although I’m not in the show she speaks about me all the time which is really sweet.”
