Troops Killed Seven Bandits In Katsina, Recovered Four Motorcycles — Katsina Govt

Seven armed bandits were killed and four motorcycles were recovered at Baba in Katsina State’s Kankara Local Government Area by Nigerian Army.

Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, the commissioner for internal security and home affairs, made this disclosure on Friday while giving journalists a briefing.

He claimed that the operation, which lasted for more than two hours on Thursday, was carried out after reliable information revealed criminal activity was enraging rural communities there.

Mu’azu claimed that the troops successfully attacked the bandits, neutralizing seven of them while the rest fled with gunshot wounds.

During the mission, four motorcycles used for their operations were also recovered.

This success is a result of the military’s ongoing operations in front-line local government areas, which aim to end illegal hunting and restore peace to farming activities during the rainy season, he said.

The Nigerian Army and other security forces working tirelessly to protect the state’s citizens are recognized by the state government through the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

To maintain the fight against banditry, the government continues to support security organizations through logistics, intelligence sharing, and community-based collaborations. We appoint every effort to protect the lives and livelihoods of Katsina State’s citizens.

World Cup squad omission ‘feels savage’ – Cross

Kate Cross remarks that it “feels savage” that England’s squad was drafted for the Women’s World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

Seamer Cross, 33, was left out of Charlotte Edwards’ 15-player squad for the tournament, which runs from September 30 through November 2.

One of England’s most experienced one-day international players, she opened the bowling in the first match of last month’s ODI series against India despite having struggled for form since suffering a back injury at the end of 2024.

It seems like everything has happened so quickly, she told the No Balls podcast, which is what I’m really struggling to understand.

After being reduced to 29 overs per side in the second ODI against India at Lord’s because of the rain, Cross was dropped for the series finale at Chester-le-Street.

After being chosen for that game, which England lost to suffer a 2-1 series defeat, she claimed she initially worried she might not make the World Cup squad.

Despite her recent struggles, Cross believed she had made the squad enough despite her back injury, which prevented her from playing a game in England’s miserable 16-0 Ashes thrashing in Australia earlier this year.

She said, “Being in the best XI is a different conversation.” However, not being on the plane makes it feel savage.

Cross claimed it was “one of the worst” times in her career and that she felt “quite sick” after being informed that she had not been chosen.

She remarked, “The messages I’ve received from everyone have been amazing.” In the end, I won’t be playing any cricket because it’s so small.

” But it’s hard to take because I don’t feel like I’ve done enough to deserve not being on that plane. “

England captain and all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt is expected to be fit enough to bowl in the World Cup, with Edwards picking Em Arlott, Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer as the only three other seamers, given surfaces are expected to favour slow bowling.

Cross, who is playing for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, said she still needs to have a conversation with Edwards about whether she will be on standby in case of injury to one of those seamers.

Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes has shared an update on her health. The actor’s latest comments, which included discussion about her mobility, come after she dismissed the suggestion that she was at “death’s door” just last month.

Miriam, 84, has spoken about her health over the years, like discussing her experience with spinal stenosis, which is said to include limb pain and weakness among the potential symptoms. The BAFTA winner, who also has arthritis, has previously shared that she now uses mobility aids.

Last year, Miriam predicted that she had up to six years left to live and has now shared an update on her health in an interview published today. She spoke about her life ahead of releasing memoir the Little Book Of Miriam next month.

Whilst speaking to the Daily Mail, Miriam expressed regret over not exercising when she was younger. The former Call the Midwife cast member said that she has “let her body down” and suggested that she hadn’t taken care of it.

She said: “I’ve let my body down. I haven’t taken care of it. I have to walk with a walker now.” Miriam went on to tell the outlet that she wishes that she had “done exercise” in previous years, before further sharing her thoughts.

Miriam described it as the “most ghastly waste of time” but she said in the interview that it keeps people going. The performer then concluded the discussion about her own health by suggesting that she had been “foolish”.

It comes amid her return to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with the show Margolyes and Dickens: More Best Bits. Prior to its launch, a video shared by organiser Fane Productions showed Miriam assuring that she was “very much alive”.

In the video, which was posted on social media last month, she was seen saying that fans “might have seen” speculation that she was “at death’s door”. Miriam however then dismissed the suggestion in the video message at the time.

She was seen teasing in the clip that she was “raring to go” for her latest show at the annual festival in Scotland. She was heard saying in the video: “B******s. I’m very much alive and raring to go to the Edinburgh Fringe this year.”

Miriam has previously suggested that she has up to six years left to live. She made the prediction in an interview with the Telegraph that was published last year. She spoke about wanting to continue performing until her death.

She said: “When you know that you haven’t got long to live – and I’m probably going to die within the next five or six years, if not before … I’m loath to leave behind performing.” She went on to describe her job as “such a joy”.

Miriam told the outlet that she finds the physical impact of her body aging to be “limiting” and “depressing”. She shared at the time: “I want to be able to play parts that aren’t just sitting in wheelchairs, but I’m not strong enough.”

Canada to ease most retaliatory tariffs against United States

As the two countries’ costly trade disputes ease, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that his nation will drop retaliatory tariffs in addition to the country’s offered tariff exemptions.

According to Carney, the US stated to reporters on Friday that it would not impose tariffs on Canadian goods that would be in line with the US-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement. Some industries, such as cars and steel, will still be subject to tariffs.

I’m announcing today that the Canadian government will now impose its own tariffs on US goods that are specifically subject to USMCA, in accordance with Canada’s commitment to USMCA,” said Carney, noting that the change will go into effect on September 1.

He continued, “Canada and the US have now resumed free trade for the majority of our goods.”

The Canadian leader, who took office in April amid widespread resentment toward the administration of US President Donald Trump’s severe tariffs, acknowledged that despite the circumstances, he had managed to get the best deal possible.

On Friday, the Trump administration praised the choice.

“We applaud Canada’s long-overdue move. A White House official stated that we look forward to continuing our discussions with Canada regarding the Administration’s trade and security concerns.

In response to reporters’ inquiries about whether Carney had effectively folded in the face of US economic pressure, several citing his frequent use of the phrase “elbows up” on the campaign trail.

The phrase was used to express Carney’s commitment to defend the Trump administration as a hockey reference that suggested an aggressively protective posture.

As the Trump administration unravels decades of economic integration with other nations, the Canadian leader claimed that his country is not the only one trying to reorient itself.

How can Israel continue to claim it does not target civilians?

Five of the six Palestinians killed in Gaza were civilians, according to an investigation into leaked classified Israeli military information.

One of the highest civilian death rates in contemporary wars is reported.

What else do these figures reveal, then? How can Israel continue to assert that it doesn’t attack Palestinian civilians when only 17 percent of those killed are combatants?

Paul will hurt Davis in mismatched bout – Khan

Amir Khan says Jake Paul is “very bad for boxing” but has warned that the YouTuber-turned-boxer is “going to hurt” Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in their upcoming exhibition bout.

Former world light-welterweight champion Khan told BBC Sport the huge size and weight difference between the pair makes the fight, which takes place on 14 November in Atlanta, a dangerous mismatch.

Paul, 28, will face undefeated 30-year-old lightweight world champion Davis, who has won 30 of his 31 fights, with 28 knockouts, in an exhibition that will not count towards either man’s professional record.

“Jake Paul, in my opinion, is going to hurt Gervonta Davis,” Briton Khan said. “Davis is a tiny little man compared to Paul. I think it’s a big mismatch. “

The weight disparity between the two fighters is stark – Paul weighed in at 200lbs for his last bout, while Davis campaigns at 135lbs.

There is also a significant height and reach difference, with 6ft 1in Paul standing eight inches taller and having a nine-inch reach advantage.

“It shows to me that Tank’s acting desperate by taking a fight like that,” Khan said.

‘Paul is bad for boxing, but I don’t think the fight happens’

Bolton’s Khan, who also won Olympic silver at lightweight in 2004, appeared stunned when BBC Sport told him the fight – which will be shown live on Netflix – had been confirmed.

“Is it really happening? What? Wow. You just shocked me there, I had no idea. That’s crazy, bro,” Khan said.

While the contracted weight, number of rounds and size of gloves for the exhibition are yet to be confirmed, Khan cast doubt on whether the fight will even take place.

“I don’t think it happens, but if it does happen, Gervonta, being as good as he is and he’s an amazing fighter, he’ll end up getting hurt,” Khan said.

“I don’t think Davis can hurt Paul. “

Khan also took aim at the wider role in the sport of Paul, who outpointed 39-year-old former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, taking his professional record to 12-1. He also beat 58-year-old heavyweight great Mike Tyson by decision last November.

“I think people like Jake Paul are very bad for boxing, to be honest with you,” Khan added.
