Tommy Fleetwood fired a superb 63 to join American Russell Henley in a share of the lead at 13 under par after the second round of the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

The Englishman made eight birdies, with the only blemish to his scorecard arriving on the 16th when he left his approach well short of the flag after finding a fairway bunker off the tee.

It was an excellent display from Fleetwood, who narrowly missed out on victory at the St Jude Championship and Travelers Championship earlier this season.

The 34-year-old is yet to win a PGA Tour event despite having 44 top-10 finishes.

He joked earlier this week that he would find it “pretty funny” if he were to triumph this weekend to claim the FedExCup and a cheque of $10m (£7.4m) in the season-ending event.

“All I can do is keep learning from the things that I might have got. I actually feel like I’ve played very, very well when I have led the tournaments and been in contention,” said Fleetwood.

“It’s just I might have not got things right at the end. It’s not like I’ve crashed and burned. It’s just that I’ve not quite finished things off.

“The people that win the most are the guys that are in contention the most and then they keep winning of course. That’s just what I want to do. That’s where I want to be. I keep going.”

Henley, who started out on Friday two shots clear of his playing partner Scottie Scheffler, recorded timely birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to sign for a four-under 66.

His US compatriot Cameron Young sits two shots back at 11 under after a scintillating performance, featuring six birdies on the back nine, helped him to a 62, the day’s best score.

Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre is one shot further behind at 10 under alongside Patrick Cantlay.

However, world number one Scheffler was unable to make significant inroads at the top of the leaderboard, with his 69 including three bogeys to put him at eight under.

Scheffler’s performance was encapsulated when he gave a fist pump after missing a par-saving putt on the 14th in a rare show of frustration.

On the same green, Ireland’s Shane Lowry holed a remarkable birdie putt from just over 97 feet – the longest in FedExCup play-offs history and sixth-longest on the PGA Tour since 2003.

That arrived as Lowry surged up the leaderboard after the turn, playing the final nine holes in six under.

Chicago ‘will be next’: Trump teases troop expansion in Democrat-led cities

President Donald Trump has hinted he plans to expand his domestic troop deployment to other Democrat-led cities in the United States, starting with the midwestern metropolis of Chicago, Illinois.

Trump’s warning arrived shortly after the Department of Defence confirmed to US media that the National Guard troops currently patrolling Washington, DC, will now be carrying weapons.

In a statement on Friday, the Pentagon said the decision came directly from Trump’s defence secretary, Pete Hegseth.

“Members supporting the mission to lower the crime rate in our Nation’s capital will soon be on mission with their service-issued weapons, consistent with their mission and training,” the statement said.

Trump had called up the National Guard on August 11 to address crime in Washington, DC, dismissing nonpartisan data from the Metropolitan Police Department that shows violent crime in the city at a 30-year low.

The city had seen an uptick in murder and other crimes after the COVID-19 pandemic began, but since 2023, violent crime has fallen by 35 percent, according to the police statistics.

Trump, however, renewed his attacks against the city’s leadership on Friday and once again threatened to take over the local government. He has already federalised the local police force, a power he can exert for a period of 30 days.

“It was a crime-infested rat hole, and they do have a lot of rats,” Trump said of Washington, DC, during a meeting with reporters and FIFA football federation president Gianni Infantino at the White House.

Threats against DC Mayor Bowser

He specifically called out Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, warning she could lose her democratically elected post.

“I’m tired of listening to these people say how safe it was before we got here,” Trump said. “It was unsafe. It was horrible. And Mayor Bowser had better get her act straight, or she won’t be mayor very long because we’ll take it over with the federal government and run it like it’s supposed to be run.”

Critics have voiced concern that such a move would further disenfranchise the voters of Washington, DC, and legal experts warn that Trump may run afoul of the law if he attempts to seize control of the city.

The federal government already wields significant power over the affairs of the capital. But under the Home Rule Act of 1973, a local government — with a mayor and city council — was set up to manage the city’s day-to-day policies, though Congress retained the right to review and reject local laws.

It is not clear how Trump could singlehandedly overturn the Home Rule Act, barring an act of Congress.

Still, Washington, DC’s unique status as the nation’s capital has allowed Trump to deploy the National Guard more freely there than he could in other parts of the country.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration faced trial for its use of the National Guard to quell demonstrations last June in Los Angeles, California.

State and local officials have argued that the move not only violated the law, but also ignited tensions between protesters and law enforcement.

In explaining California’s case against the Trump administration, state Attorney General Rob Bonta cited the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which bars the use of the country’s military for domestic law enforcement.

“Two months ago, the federal government deployed military troops to the streets of Los Angeles for the purposes of political theater and public intimidation,” Bonta said in a news release. “This dangerous move has no precedent in American history.”

Expanding troop deployments to Chicago

But Trump has advanced the idea that he will continue to deploy the National Guard to other parts of the country, in the name of combating crime.

“After we do this, we’ll go to another location, and we’ll make it safe also. We’re going to make our country very safe. We’re going to make our cities very, very safe,” Trump said, before turning his attention to one city in particular.

“Chicago’s a mess. You have an incompetent mayor. Grossly incompetent. And we’ll straighten that one out probably next. That’ll be our next one after this. And it won’t even be tough.”

He also named other cities he would like to “clean up” with federal troop intervention.

“I think Chicago will be next, and then we’ll help with New York,” Trump said at one point on Friday. At another, he hinted he might be inclined to once again deploy the National Guard to California.

“Now, you look at what the Democrats have done to San Francisco; they’ve destroyed it,” Trump said. “It’s just different. We can clean that up, too. We’ll clean that one up, too.”

Any of those proposed efforts, should they materialise, would likely face challenges under the Posse Comitatus Act.

Already, some mayors have responded to the idea that their city could be the next stop for Trump’s anti-crime campaign.

“If President Trump wants to help make Chicago safer, he can start by releasing the funds for anti-violence programs that have been critical to our work to drive down crime and violence,” Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement earlier this month.

“Sending in the national guard would only serve to destabilize our city and undermine our public safety efforts.”

As Trump faces the end of the 30-day window for his control of the Washington, DC, police force, he has indicated that he might try to circumvent the deadline by declaring the capital’s crime a “national emergency”.

“ I don’t know if there is a deadline because if I declare a national emergency, which this was, that ends the deadline,” Trump said.

BRIT Award nominee Tom Grennan has spoken about his relationship with his wife Danniella Carraturo on occasion. It’s included him having spoken about the moment that the couple met and his partner being inspiration for music.

Tom, 30, is said to have met pilates instructor Danniella one evening in 2020 and they got engaged two years later. They went on to tie the knot in a wedding ceremony held last year and he’s now announced that he’s become a parent.

The singer-songwriter has said that he knew Danniella was “the one” from the first time they met. It’s been revealed that they met in an elevator, with him speaking about the encounter on the Kyle and Jackie O Show last year.

Tom shared on the radio show that they “bonded” over a cigarette during a night out. He recalled them saying ‘hello’ to each other in the lift whilst both “heading to the smoking area”. He added: “Bonded over a ciggie and that was it.”

He said that he “misread” the situation though, with him saying: “I leant in for a kiss and she was like ‘what the hell are you doing?’ […] I was just like ‘well if you’re not gonna kiss me, you might as well put your phone number in my phone’.”

Tom, who said that he felt there was “something” about her, shared that they began a romance but were together “not long” before splitting up. He suggested that Covid-19 lockdown was a factor and that he had not been “ready”.

He recalled Danniella later posting a photo of herself, which prompted him to get back in touch. Tom said he messaged her saying “enjoy your day” and described her as “stunning”. He added: “And then I had to do some grovelling, basically.”

Tom once teased to Rolling Stone Australia/NZ that his single Remind Me, which was released in 2022, had been inspired by Danniella, whom he called his “best mate”. He said: “It was about reconnecting with somebody special.”

The musician told the outlet in an interview three years ago: “Now we’re back together, and I’m in love. She’s amazing, somebody who has changed my life completely.”

That same year, it was announced that Tom and Danniella had got engaged. Then, in June 2022, shortly after his proposal, the couple were seen at Wimbledon, where his fiancée appeared to be sporting an engagement ring.

More recently, Tom and Danniella tied the knot in May last year. The couple exchanged vows in a ceremony in Majorca that was attended by family and friends. The reception was held in an outdoor area at a venue on the island.

Some guests shared photos from the nuptials on social media at the time. One attendee wrote in a post that there had been a “euphoric atmosphere”. Another shared that they were in “awe” over the couple’s wedding celebrations.

Tom later confirmed he had got married and shared a photo of the newlyweds embracing in a field. He was seen in a black suit, whilst the bride wore a white dress. Beside a black heart emoji, he wrote in the post last year: “Life starts now.”

Weeks after the wedding, during his appearance on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, Tom revealed that he wrote Danniella a song as his wedding speech. He confirmed on the radio show at the time that it had been an unreleased song.

He said: “I thought my speech would be awful because I’m actually dyslexic. I’m rubbish at writing and speaking publicly.” Tom recalled telling his wife before the music began: “I can’t really talk as well as I would love but here goes …”

Earlier tonight, Tom shared that he’s become a parent in a post celebrating his album Everywhere I Went, Led Me to Where I Didn’t Want to Be having topped the charts in the UK. It marks his third consecutive chart-topping album.

Alongside a series of photos, one of which showed a baby holding his award for the achievement, he wrote: “From the kid who never thought he’d make it, to three consecutive number one albums, joining an esteemed club to do so with the likes of The Beatles & Oasis – words will never be enough for the gratitude I feel.

“To now be stepping into fatherhood at the same time is the greatest gift I could ever imagine. Music gave me purpose, but being a dad gives me everything. Here’s to the past that built me, the present that grounds me, and the future I can’t wait for!

“Thanks to all the fans for once again making my dreams a reality, I really couldn’t do it without you all. It’s going to be amazing to see so many of you on the upcoming tour in September. Honestly I’m so excited for what’s to come, we are just getting started.”

Charlotte Dawson has been targeted by online trolls after her eldest son, Noah, unexpectedly walked in on her while she was filming an advertisement for Peacocks lingerie in their kitchen.

The 32-year-old was caught off guard, mid-performance, lip-syncing to Lady Marmalade and striking provocative poses in a baby blue lingerie set.

She even had her leg up on the kitchen counter and was holding a large chocolate bar. Noah, who is four-years-old, entered the room at that moment and appeared unimpressed with his mum’s behaviour. It comes after Charlotte revealed her shock health battle as she ‘still looks pregnant’ three months after her baby’s birth.

“Noah was like pottering around because he was off”, Charlotte revealed on her podcast, Charlotte’s Naughty Corner. “So I was doing part of the lingerie in the kitchen, on the kitchen side and stuff”.

“Then Noah sees me in the kitchen, and he goes, ‘ Mummy, mummy. What are you doing? What are you doing, mummy? And he started getting really freaked out”, the mum-of-three explained.

Charlotte subsequently posted a snap of Noah’s reaction on her Instagram account, with the youngster’s dismay clearly visible across his scowling expression.

“Noah saw me stood on the booth like this when I’d just filmed my video for @peacocks_fashion and said ‘ Mummy what are you doing up there, wearing that and eating chocolate? ‘ I felt so embarrassed… fully in the naughty corner this week”.

Followers in the comments section of the Instagram post were swift to voice their opinions on Charlotte’s mishap, with numerous people slating her for allowing her son to witness her in such a scenario.

“So when I stand up there eating chocolate posing it’s naughty but when she’s doing it she classes it as working”, one sighed. “Put some clothes on mummy and give me that chocolate”! another guessed.

Someone else wrote: “Love you Char but this is weird. Your son shouldn’t have to witness this type of thing. I’m all for body positivity….. but come on.”

Mum-of-three Charlotte has had a busy few years and it’s no wonder she and fiancé Matt Sarsfield are yet to walk down the aisle.

Charlotte got engaged to rugby league star Matt, 33, in 2020 and soon after started their family as they welcomed their first child together, Noah, in 2021.

Two years later couple’s second child, Jude, was welcomed into the world. And, just three months ago, Charlotte gave birth to their third child, a baby girl named Gigi, completing their beautiful family unit.

When asked how she’s finding life as a mum of three children under the age of five, Charlotte told The Mirror: “It’s absolute carnage. But it’s a beautiful chaos. They’re my absolute world.

” I finally got my little girl and the two boys absolutely dote on her. It’s amazing, but really hard. Going from two to three is like having 10 kids, because you’re outnumbered.

“Two we can manage, because there are two pairs of hands. But I think it’s going to be worth it because when they’re older they’re going to be playing together, they’re going to be best friends”.

No wonder Charlotte and hubby-to-be Matt are yet to set a date for their wedding, despite being engaged for almost five years. When asked when she and Matt plan to marry, Charlotte told us: “Maybe when it gets a bit easier with the kids.

” I’d love Gigi to walk down the aisle in a little dress, so I think I might have to wait. I’m gonna have to anyway. I can’t start planning a wedding now. Jesus, I can’t even sort my own life out. “

Hungary, Slovakia fear oil cuts after Ukrainian attack on Russian pipeline

Following a Ukrainian strike on Russia’s Druzhba pipeline, Hungary and Slovakia have raised concerns about potential fuel shortages, warning that deliveries could be delayed for several days.

Officials from both nations issued a warning on Friday that the Unecha oil pumping station’s attack, a crucial hub in western Russia, could cause delays in supply for at least five days. Central Europe is primarily served by Russian oil’s crucial route through Belarus and Ukraine, which was constructed during the Soviet Union.

In a joint letter to the European Commission, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and Slovakia’s Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar pleaded with Brussels to intervene and ensure secure energy flows. Without this pipeline, the supply of our nations would simply not be possible, according to them, both physically and geographically.

Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, released a letter he had written to US President Donald Trump that included the strike.

Orban claimed in it that Ukraine had attacked Druzhba just before Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, and that it was an “unfortunate” escalation.

Trump’s handwritten statement, “Viktor, I do not like hearing this, I am very angry about it,” appeared in a copy of the Facebook letter. There are no comments from the White House.

Energy security

Late on Thursday, Ukraine’s military confirmed that it had struck the Unecha facility, describing it as a crucial component of Russia’s export system.

Despite the location being independently verified, Robert Brovdi, the head of Ukraine’s unmanned systems forces, posted a video on Telegram of a massive blaze at an oil depot.

Following a second straight week of a halt on Monday and Tuesday, the strike severely affected oil deliveries to Hungary and Slovakia. Officials from Russia acknowledged that the Unecha fire had been extinguished, but that it could continue to flow for several days.

After the 2022 invasion, the European Union pledged to completely eliminate Moscow’s oil and gas by 2027. Hungary and Slovakia have resisted these actions, maintaining close ties with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, and preventing some sanctions that Kyiv claims are necessary to pressure Moscow.

Both Germany and Kazakhstan, which also use the Druzhba pipeline, reported that their supplies remained unaffected. Berlin confirmed that Kazakhstan’s oil flows had not been hampered while Bernin claimed that fuel deliveries to the capital’s PCK Schwedt refinery were safe.
