‘Writing on the wall’ – what does future hold for Grealish?

Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish may have to leave this summer with “the writing on the wall” for him, says their former goalkeeper Shay Given.

Grealish, 29, was a British record signing when he joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Aston Villa for £100m in 2021.

The England international has won three Premier League titles, the Champions League and FA Cup with City but has fallen down the pecking order this season.

Grealish has only started 16 times this season in all competitions, and has been on the pitch for 1, 520 minutes – fewer than half the amount he played in the 2022-23 season when City won the Champions League.

He was an unused substitute as Crystal Palace won the FA Cup final last weekend, while he also did not get on the pitch when City were beaten at Wembley by rivals Manchester United in 2024.

Grealish’s future at Etihad Stadium is unclear heading into the summer, with a growing sense that he would benefit from a move before next season.

There is likely to be interest from clubs across Europe in a player who may be attracted by the idea of a fresh start at a top club who could provide him with regular football.

It remains to be seen whether his reported £300, 000-per-week wages will prove prohibitive towards any potential move away.

“I have a soft spot for Jack Grealish and the way he is being treated is not on”, former City keeper Given, who played alongside Grealish at Villa, told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club.

“He’s not helped himself at times but he is a generational talent that you want to build your team around.

” That’s back-to-back FA Cup finals where you need a goal and you don’t use him. At the weekend City brought on Claudio Echeverri who made his debut instead.

“Jack is an international, a multiple winner, it was criminal he didn’t get on the pitch. The writing is on the wall. I don’t know why Pep even brought him to London. He may as well have stayed at home.

” When he plays, he’s a mannequin on the wing and just told to keep the shape. Kevin de Bruyne is leaving in the summer and Jack Grealish is the perfect replacement to play in the middle but after what has happened, he maybe won’t play for the club again.

“For his career, he has to see what is out there. With plenty of years to go, he has an amazing talent.

For the first time since Guardiola’s first season in charge in 2016-17, City will finish without a major trophy following a defeat in the FA Cup final.

Sixth place in the Premier League’s final two games, they could not win the Champions League the following year.

Guardiola says talks will be held between the player’s representatives, his successor Hugo Viana, and Txiki Begiristain, who will be retiring.

Guardiola said, “We didn’t talk; I didn’t talk to him.” “People don’t believe me, but these things belong to Txiki, the agents, and Hugo in this case.” Both parties will decide.

He must return to begin playing minutes once more, but what will happen will happen.

“It’s not just Jack,” he said. Not one locker room player is happy when they don’t play, and I don’t think there are any in all the locker rooms around the world.

The team must figure out how everything works when they are winning and winning, but they are unhappy.

El Salvador arrests prominent human rights lawyer who defends deportees

In El Salvador, a well-known human rights lawyer who fights to have immigrants deported as a result of President Donald Trump’s strict anti-immigration policies has been arrested.

Ruth Eleonora López, 47, a senior member of the human rights organization Cristosal and vocal critic of Trump’s ally Nayib Bukele, president, was taken into custody late on Sunday.

The attorney general of El Salvador confirmed the arrest after an online post in which it claimed López had allegedly lied about defrauding state funds while working for the country’s electoral court ten years ago.

According to a statement from Cristosal, neither her family nor her legal team have been able to discover where she is. The refusal to give her information or grant lawyers’ access is “a flagrant violation of due process.”

The group said her arrest “proves serious doubts about the growing dangers that human rights defenders in El Salvador face.”

López has openly criticised the government’s widespread detention of alleged gang members, many of whom have not been charged.

More than 250 Venezuelan immigrants who have been deported to El Salvador under Trump’s administration have been helped by Cristosal, one of the most prominent human rights organizations in Latin America.

Bukele, who has cultivated close ties with Trump and called himself “the world’s coolest dictator,” claimed El Salvador is ready to house US prisoners in a sprawling mega-prison that was inaugurated last year.

Trump allegedly had ties to the Tren de Aragua gang, which their families and attorneys contend he did in March by using hardly ever invoked wartime powers to send dozens of Venezuelans to El Salvador without trial.

Under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, the US Supreme Court on Friday forbade the Trump administration from resuming its immediate deportations of Venezuelans.

As part of what observers perceive as a wider campaign of harassment and intimidation against civil society organizations and independent media, police entered its offices during a press conference in April to film and photograph journalists and staff members.

For her dedication to the rule of law and the rule of law, López was named one of the top 100 women in the world by the BBC as one of the 100 most powerful and inspirational women.

She was required to be released right away in a joint statement signed by more than a dozen human rights organizations, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.

The statement stated that “El Salvador’s state of exception has been used to silence critical voices as well as to address gang-related violence.”

Brooklyn Beckham ‘snubs David again as they’re just five minutes away from each other’

After their very public outcry, Brooklyn Beckham and David Beckham’s son were only five minutes away from him as he focused on work. He then moved to London for a six-figure deal.

David Beckham and Brooklyn reportedly were within five minutes of one another.

Brooklyn Beckham has reportedly returned to London and was just five minutes away from his famous father as he set his sights on a huge six-figure deal. The 26-year-old son of David and Victoria Beckham has hit the headlines for his very public family fallout.

By ignoring football legend David’s 50th birthday celebrations earlier this month, he shocked fans and his own family. Brooklyn and wife Nicola allegedly made a rift in the Beckham clan while the parties were taking place, and they even flew to London from their Los Angeles residence.

Nicola has found herself at the centre of the accusations, with some sources claiming she stirred up drama. However, the whole saga appeared to have been very painful for those involved as they try to carry out their jobs.

On Monday, David headed to the Chelsea Flower Show where he rubbed shoulders with King Charles and Queen Camilla. It came just days after reports Brooklyn and Nicola had met with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at an intimate dinner in California.

Brooklyn was reportedly in Brooklyn as David reportedly focused on his work with the royals. Brooklyn was reportedly located just five minutes away in a bizarre coincidence.

The aspiring chef has reportedly signed a mega new campaign with designer brand Moncler alongside Nicola. “Brooklyn and David couldn’t have been closer in distance yesterday, but their relationship is still strained,” a source told the Sun.

“Neither of them would have known how close they were,” they said. Given how close the pair once were, everything is very challenging.

Brooklyn is alleged to have flown into London to film it and signed a six-figure contract to work for the Italian company. Onlookers were surprised to see him back in the UK after being photographed in the street.

Brooklyn and their relationship is “huge deal,” but the father and son were “five minutes by car” away, which has hampered the success.

As the shoot got underway, Victoria shared a public message to Brooklyn. Taking to Instagram, the former Spice Girl posted a family photo that showed her four children alongside her parents Tony Adams and Jackie Adams.

In the photo, the couple were spotted posing beside their children, Brooklyn, 26, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 13, as she captioned the post with her three sons.

In the caption, Victoria wrote, “We both love you all so much,” along with a heart emoji, in the middle of the chaos.

A source previously told the Mirror: “Brooklyn not turning up was a real blow to David. Brooklyn was close with his dad growing up, but he is married now. His wife Nicola is older and confident in her own right, and so there is distance between Brooklyn and his parents.”

Because of the family’s use of social media, the source continued, “It has become a problem and cannot be kept private.” There is a very obvious rift that David and Victoria would be happy to heal because things have gotten worse in recent months.

‘I’d Rather Be Imprisoned Than Obey A Compulsory Voting Law’ — Agbakoba

Olisa Agbakoba, a senior advocate for Nigeria and a human rights lawyer, said he would rather be imprisoned than follow the proposed bill’s requirements.

Agbakoba criticized the National Assembly’s attempt to impose compulsory voting in a statement released on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today, arguing that it fails to address the root causes of voter apathy in the nation.

“Look at the ridiculous National Assembly voter-requirement apprehension. Agbakoba, we will not obey that bill if it were to pass. Conscientious objection is what I’ll make. He said he would rather not follow the law and spend six months there.

He questioned the justification for the bill, stating, “Why would the National Assembly want to make mandatory voting mandatory? Why don’t they respond to the question and say, “Why are Nigerians not interested? ” What causes the apathy, exactly?

Exclusion, Unfulfilled Promises&nbsp

Agbakoba argued that voter disengagement is not a result of a lack of civic responsibility but rather from years of exclusion and unfulfilled political promises.

They don’t get anything, according to Apathy. People will turn out to vote if I know I’m going to get something—there’s an aspiration, there’s an interest. However, the same old trick is then seen by others. You show up, you vote, and you’ll be gone for four more years. He predicted that there would be apathy.

The senior lawyer believes that the country’s democratic failure is at the root of exclusion.

“We currently have a significant issue with a system that excludes,” said. You’ll find that exclusion is the biggest issue facing Nigeria, in my opinion. That is, in my opinion, the biggest issue with exclusion. He noted that no one is participating in the process.

He warned that democracy in Nigeria cannot succeed if it continues to serve only a select elite as he prepared for the 2027 general elections.

“Suddenly, you have a significant issue of coalitions and defections.” Why? Politicians rarely engage in conversation about people’s well-being, suffering, or lack of opportunities. That is not what I’ve heard.

Every four years, politicians jump up and become active, as I’ve heard them say. They vanish once they are in possession. Therefore, “Agbakoba stated, I believe we need to look for a new model.”

Agbakoba reiterated that Nigeria’s political failure is the main factor in the low voter turnout debate, arguing whether the real issue is public office attractiveness and the consistent failure of leadership.

He said, “We’ve had some strong leaders, I must admit. However, overall, the leadership is not very good. Nigerians are not currently where they want to be because of their leadership qualities.

“It’s because of the fact that there is voter disinterest and apathy.” We won’t get this right, therefore, unless we ask ourselves and inquire as to why this lack of interest in voting.

“I can tell you that Nigerians are uninterested because they don’t see anything,” I said. You ought to explore Nigeria. By the way, Lagos is not Nigeria because some residents of this country, like us, believe otherwise.

Bills for Mandatory Voting Face Criticism

The House of Representatives passed the contentious bill, Bill for an Act to amend the Electoral Act of 2002, for second reading. All Nigerians of eligible age may cast a mandate ballot in state and national elections.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and member of the Labour Party Daniel Asama Ago are both co-sponsoring the bill. Go argued in the plenary on Thursday that mandated voting would reduce voter apathy and encourage voter purchasing, noting that other nations have successfully implemented similar measures like Australia.

The bill was also endorsed by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who called it “a step in the right direction.”

However, Femi Falana, a second senior advocate of Nigeria, who on Monday criticized the measure as unconstitutional and impractical, has received some strong criticism for the legislation.

The proposed law, according to Falana in a statement titled “Compulsory Voting Is Not Enough,” goes against provisions of the 1999 Constitution that protect the freedom of thought, freedom of speech, and freedom of conscience.

He stated, “It is doubtful whether the Speaker and his colleagues have given the relevant constitutional provisions enough thought.” Otherwise, they would have realized that compulsory voting violates Sections 37, 38, 77 (2), 135 (3), and 178(5) of the Constitution in every way.

He warned that if mandatory voting were to be implemented, it would be unlawful.

De Bruyne ‘second-best’ passer after Messi – Guardiola

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Kevin de Bruyne, according to Pep Guardiola, is the “second-best” passer he has worked with after Lionel Messi, an excellent Argentine midfielder.

Guardiola ranks the departing Belgian in high regard, ahead of players like Xavi and Andres Iniesta at Barcelona and former City midfielder David Silva.

De Bruyne made the announcement last month that he would leave City when his contract expires at the end of the season. On Tuesday, his final home game will be against Bournemouth (kick-off 20:00 BST).

Guardiola praised him as “one of the best three” he has ever seen, saying it would be difficult to find another player who could pass the ball like De Bruyne before quickly changing his mind.

Guardiola remarked, “One is Messi.” “And the other two, please allow me to think about it.” “OK, let me put Kevin second.”

He continued, “Messi is the best I have ever seen because Kevin is present but Messi is very close to the box.” Just the talent and stats, goals, and assists that he gives the team in the final third.

De Bruyne’s comparison to De Bruyne

Getty Images
De Bruyne has won 16 titles, including six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League, since joining Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga side in 2015.

Under Guardiola, the Belgian has 258 league games played, scoring 0. 5 assists and creating 3. 6 chances per 90 minutes, which is higher than Messi, Xavi, Iniesta, and Silva.

His passing accuracy of 82.4% is among the five players, but it could be due to the final third of his passes being played riskier in an effort to unlock defenses.

De Bruyne’s City days are coming to an end, according to BBC Sport, but the club is still looking for a creative midfielder, with Morgan Gibbs-White being one of the options.

Guardiola responded when asked if De Bruyne would be difficult to replace: “We all know that there are players who are really, really difficult for a variety of reasons.

De Bruyne’s final home game will be played on time.

De Bruyne will leave City on Tuesday for his final home game against Bournemouth.

De Bruyne did not say whether De Bruyne would face the Cherries, but Guardiola said, “Kevin will get what he deserves.” His incredible trajectory deserves the best compliment, in my opinion.

It would not have been possible without Sheikh Mansour taking the club to a higher level because of what he has accomplished with other legendary players.

He will be given a guard of honor from team-mates at full-time during the final game at Etihad Stadium.

De Bruyne will make a brief speech on the field before evoking his gratitude with the other players as they receive gifts from their late club legend, Colin Bell, and then take them on a lap of applause.

De Bruyne’s final game for the club is likely to be against Fulham on Sunday (16:00 BST), which is likely to be his final one.
