FG Inaugurates AMCON Board To Strengthen Asset Recovery, Economic Stability

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has a new board of directors, a move that the Federal Government has made to stabilize the financial sector, promote asset recovery, and ensure a smooth institutional transition.

The newly appointed Board, led by Dr. Bala Bello, brings together experienced professionals who are committed to improving corporate governance, accelerating recovery of distressed assets, and creating a credible, time-bound exit plan in accordance with international best practices.

Wale Edun, the minister of finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, praised AMCON’s new direction as essential for restoring investor confidence, unlocking value from non-performing assets, and supporting macroeconomic reforms that promote private sector growth during his opening address to the board on Wednesday.

The Minister called for “AMCON to change from a last-resort stabiliser to a disciplined vehicle for value creation and responsible exit.” The Minister noted that a credible winddown will free up resources and advance our shared goal of a transparent, investment-friendly financial system.

Effective asset recovery and institutional accountability are essential factors in ensuring that Nigeria remains a competitive destination for both capital and enterprise in a fiscally constrained environment, according to Edun.

Gbenga Alade, AMCON’s Managing Director/CEO, reaffirmed that the corporation was never intended to be permanent in his response.

He declared, “We are here to conclude, not to endure indefinitely.” We will provide a process that is in the national interest by comparing our exit strategy to global models.

The reconstitution of AMCON’s Board is seen by the Federal Government as a strategic move toward facilitating greater private sector participation in the economy, facilitating financial sector reform, and allowing bank balance sheet space to be opened up to banks.

Tuchel unlikely to make deals before Friday’s squad announcement

Despite a heavily crowded end-of-season schedule, England manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to name a strong squad on Friday. He is unlikely to negotiate with clubs.

According to sources, the England boss wants to work with as many players as possible and for as long as possible, so he won’t offer guarantees to Premier League managers on workload.

Before the 2026 World Cup begins, Tuchel emphasized before victories over Latvia and Albania in March that he has only 60 days and 24 sessions with his squad.

Gareth Southgate was replaced by a German manager with a mandate to win the tournament.

A six-day England training camp will take place from 4 to 10 June, with a qualifier for the World Cup in Andorra on June 7 and a friendly encounter with Senegal on June 10.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich will compete in the expanded Club World Cup that Fifa will host on June 15 through July 13 during the course of its expanded run in the United States.

The tournament’s participating clubs are eager to release their players from June’s international window, not just England.

Tuchel and the players’ briefing before the World Cup was made clear from their first meeting, though.

In his first team, Tuchel makes big selection calls and makes justifications in press conferences, as evidenced by the surprise calls-ups of Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford, and Dan Burn.

The FA cited the Club World Cup as a “significant challenge” for protecting players’ welfare, which could also have “financial implications.”

Calendar for the end of the season

  • 25 May: Premier League final matches
  • 28 May: Chelsea vs. Real Betis in the Conference League final
  • Champions League match between PSG and Inter Milan on May 31.
  • 4 through 10 June: Six-day England camp with games on the 7 and 10 June.
  • 15 June – 13 July: Club World Cup featuring Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and others.
  • Bayern’s first Club World Cup game on June 15th.
  • Chelsea’s opening game on June 16th.
  • 18 June: First games between Real Madrid and Man City
  • Mid-July: Pre-season games start, including those that are held abroad.
  • Community Shield, August 9
  • Tottenham vs. Champions League winners in the Uefa Super Cup on August 13th.
  • 16 August marks the start of the Premier League’s 2025-26 campaign.

What are the major decisions, Bellingham’s shoulder, and Foden’s “faking”?

JavaScript must be enabled in your browser to play this video.

Will Tuchel decide that his star midfielder should be a part of his next camp if he’s fit enough to play in the US after having surgery on Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid and having to do so after the Club World Cup?

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is currently a free agent, might also be called up because the Spanish team is attempting to complete his Liverpool transfer before the Club World Cup begins.

Phil Foden, a player from Manchester City, started Tuchel’s first game but has struggled this season.

The attacker claimed that the incident from the Manchester derby on April 6 caused him to “struggle” this season and that he has been “struggling” mentally due to “things going on off the pitch.”

If Tuchel chooses Foden, it may also spark the club versus country debate by giving him a few weeks off to get it back to 100%.

Harry Kane has been celebrating his first trophy with Bayern Munich, and England is expected to take home another one before the Club World Cup.

With their Europa Conference League final in Poland on May 28th, Cole Palmer, who missed the first games while Tuchelis was unavailable, is another player in contention for the Club World Cup with Chelsea team-mates Reece James, Levi Colwill, and Noni Madueke all in contention.

Tuchel once said in March in the club versus country debate, “We do what’s good for us.” We stay in touch with the clubs, monitor the statuses closely, and take no unprofessional risks. Because I consider the players to be first and foremost. The player should not suffer any injuries.

In the end, we take good care of ourselves, the clubs take good care of themselves, and the main focus is the players. This is where it is.

Watch out for Maguire, Eze, Wharton, and Delap.

In the days following the season’s conclusion, Manchester United are planning to make a post-season trip to Hong Kong and Malaysia. When Tuchel’s first team’s defensive back Harry Maguire returns from Asia, he might be considered joining.

Morgan Gibbs-White, a late call-up at Nottingham Forest after missing out on the first team, is another option. Will Ipswich’s forward Liam Delap, who is in demand at various Premier League clubs, be called up for a senior role?

Rashford, an on-loan at Aston Villa, has been sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring injury, so his fitness is unknown, while Anthony Gordon, a Newcastle player, has suffered a decline in performance. Eberechi Eze, who won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace, could now have a clear shot at the left-wing position in Tuchel’s side.

Eze has scored seven goals in his past six games and is currently in excellent form in the latter part of the season. In the win over Lativa in March, he scored his first England goal.

In midfield, Tuchel might turn to teammate Adam Wharton for assistance. Although Tuchel was a member of the U21 squad during Tuchel’s first training camp, he was unable to play in the 4-2 victory over Wolves on Tuesday due to a concussion. However, he did train with the senior squad during Tuchel’s first training camp after that.

Next shoppers love a “beautiful” £19 top that “goes with everything” and gets “lots of compliments.” The White Button Down Ruffle Sleeve Top With Linen is a hit with shoppers. Impressed reviewers say the “breathable” style is “perfect for day wear or can be dressed up for evening wear.”

It’s a style that’s proving popular for summer. Other options include New Look’s £19.99 linen look sleeveless top which might be better for fans of sleeveless tops, and ASOS’ £27.95 sleeveless tie back linen top from Hollister, which could suit shoppers looking for colourful linen, as it comes in a dusty pink shade.

Elsewhere, UNIQLO offers a £24.90 linen blend blouse in six different colours. Nonetheless, Next’s offering is popular with shoppers. It comes in a regular or petite fit, with various sizes available.

The description says: “The perfect summer top for every wardrobe. Choose from our wide range of prints and colours (although we’re positive you’ll want them all!) Pair with your favourite denim shorts or jeans for a transitional look – perfect for layering but cool and comfortable on its own on those hot summer days.”

One reviewer said: “This top is lovely for the warmer days, nice cool linen. It can be worn with shorts, jeans or a skirt. I’ll be buying again in another colour.” Someone agreed: “Lovely fit, stylish but still cool on holiday.”

The material is a nice quality & the top is well made. I have also purchased a couple of the patterned tops in the same style.”

Unfortunately, not all Next shoppers were so happy when reviewing the retailer on Trustpilot. While Next’s overall ranking is scored as ‘great’, with an average of 4.2 out of five, some shoppers reported problems with delivery and customer service.

For instance, someone wrote: “The staff in store are lovely and always so helpful. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the customer service online.”

Another unimpressed shopper claimed: “Some of my order was missing plus delivered a day late.” A different shopper thought: “One of the parcels I received looked as though it had being sent back by someone, but had not been repacked. Very creased.”

Naga Munchetty hits back at cruel body-shamers after nasty BBC Breakfast jibes

On the most recent episode of the Mid-Point podcast, the pair spoke about their experiences as TV presenters Naga Munchetty and Gabby Logan.

TV presenter Naga Munchetty has hit back at the way she’s treated by BBC Breakfast viewers compared to her co-host Charlie Stayt. She’s also addressed people “reading into” her choices of outfits.

Naga, 50 – who has anchored the BBC show since 2014 – has opened up about being criticised over her appearance on social media. The host, who has assured that she is “very happy” with her body, suggested that her colleague Charlie, 62, doesn’t receive the same response from viewers.

The BBC Radio 5 Live host spoke about her experience whilst a guest on this week’s episode of the podcast the Mid-Point. The comments came after podcast host Gabby Logan, 52, asked whether it shows “progress” in the industry that they are both still working on TV in the fifties.

Because of my age, Naga said, “I don’t feel like I have to go anywhere soon.” She continued, “But] I think that women’s appearance on television is still a factor.” When Gabby inquired if she meant “more than men,” she responded, “Absolutely.”

Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha, 60, was then brought up, with Naga recalling that she attracted attention for wearing the same blouse for numerous episodes of the ITV show in 2017. Nadia later revealed that it had been an “experiment” after Robert Rinder, 46, said that he had worn the same suit in interviews without anyone noticing.

Sharing her thoughts, Naga suggested that viewers wouldn’t notice if her co-stars Charlie and Jon Kay, 55, did the same. She said that “no one would notice” if her two colleagues “wore the same suit” for several days on BBC Breakfast.

Naga then said, “How many times have I had comments.. You have a belly, you should not be wearing that dress, I assure you. People enjoy leaving comments or emails on social media.

She continued, “I’m very pleased with my body.” Women have bellies, but you’re aware that I’m strong and fit. When asked if her co-host had body-related comments, she responded, “I don’t think Charlie’s ever had one about his belly.”

Later, Naga later told Gabby, “You get a lot of nice comments [too], but I think… so to go back in time, women are expected to portray a certain aesthetic.” She continued, “You have to be aware that what you wear cannot distract you because the story is important.”

Football pundit Gabby said that it’s “the same with sport,” adding that she “always” wants to look “smart”. She said that whilst she enjoys clothes, she doesn’t want her outfits to be “anything more” than a “passing thought” for viewers. Naga added: “Women are more highly criticised and noticed.”

Naga also addressed the audience members who had “read into” her choice of color for her career’s outside broadcasts. She claimed that when working outdoors, broadcasters require a “variety” of coats, scarves, and thermals.

She continued, “The number of times people have read into the color of my coat and what I’m talking about [though].” Naga told Gabby that “it is nonsense,” before claiming that she had been “beyond the law” when she made the decision to chat.

Gabby acknowledged that when she makes comments at a football game, she always prefers to avoid sporting suits that are the same color as either team. Naga emphasized that she won’t wear the “colors of their party” the same day as she knows she is interviewing a politician for BBC Breakfast.
