Viral beauty brand call out workplace injustice with hilarious campaign

E.l.f. Beauty launched it’s newest campaign and initiative to encourage company board workers to verify their gender and race on the Change The Board website, for this two year mission:

E.l.f. Beauty’s peak in popularity has included excellent dupe products, skincare in makeup and affordable prices that remain in our budget-friendly baskets. Their new campaign seems to go one step further, calling out the injustice of boardrooms favouring old, white men of this particular name.

In a shocking discovery, e.l.f. Beauty’s research shows there are “So Many ‘Dicks’ So Few of Everyone Else,” with e.l.f. encouraging “more diversity across U.S. corporate boards.”

The ingenious campaign demands to be seen, posted across Wall Street, New York, asking why there are so few diverse hires in a market that predominantly targets women, of every race and skin tone.

The hilarious play on words points out one cheeky fact that boardrooms cannot escape: the lack of diversity hires – particularly Black women. E.l.f’s Change The Board campaign sets out to raise awareness of the substantial employment gap that favours hires nicknamed “Dick” over Black women of any name at all.

e.l.f. Beauty Chairman and CEO, Tarang Amin, states his belief in the company’s “unique Board of Directors” being the reason for their overall business growth. He said: “One of the most important things a diverse board does is bring in multiple viewpoints to make better decisions. At e.l.f. Beauty, empathy is part of our business model because it brings us closer to our community and the things people in the community care about”.

“A diverse board also helps us stay culturally relevant among multiple affinities. It’s the unique combination and diverse school of thought that helps us lead innovation and brand demand in the industry”.

An interesting development since acquiring beauty mogul and model Hailey Beiber’s Rhode Beauty just over a month ago, e.l.f. has now shared its commitment “to help double the rate of women and diverse members added to corporate boards by 2027”.

Working with agency OBERLAND, the beauty giant completed its survey exploring the race and gender of each person serving on director boards of American-based companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.

By researching biographies, images, public statements and public filings available to the general public, they proved that a surprising 566 men on these company boards were named Richard, Rick, or Dick.

They also noticed that, compared to ‘just the Dicks,’ Black and Asian women of any name barely scratch the surface of White, male employees – with only 806 Black Women and and even lesser 774 Asian Women on boards.

Significantly, there were only 283 Hispanic women on these same boards, and 19 times more men named Dick than the sole 29 women of Middle Eastern descent. Tragically, the report highlighted that a minuscule three Native American women serving on boards, compared to the 566 Richards and Dicks.

Kory Marchisotto, the Chief Marketing Officer at e.l.f. spoke on the company’s mission to diversify boardrooms, saying: “Diverse representation isn’t limited to within the four walls of our company. We want to normalize diversity – and if it takes some ‘e.l.f.ing’ in-your-face advertising to do it, we’re happy to put it on some of the biggest screens you can imagine”.

She added that the aim of the data and campaign is “to invite others with us on this journey to drive real impact and help corporate boards more accurately reflect the world around us”.

Launched in May, 2025, the global beauty giant asks existing board members to visit Change The Board and “verify and update their gender and race to ensure the database is the most accurate representation of corporate boards in the U.S,” all in the name of inclusivity and progression.

Actor Orlando Bloom attended Oasis’ concert in Manchester over the weekend, appearing upbeat and carefree following his very recent split from Katy Perry

Orlando Bloom was all smiles at the Oasis concert in Manchester on Saturday, just weeks after confirming his split from longtime partner Katy Perry. The 48-year-old actor shared several videos on Instagram, singing and dancing enthusiastically to the iconic band’s biggest hits after their long-awaited reunion.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star attended the show from the VIP section alongside celebrity friends and family members of the performers, including Liam Gallagher’s sons, Lennon, 25, and Gene, 24. Bloom appeared to be in high spirits throughout the evening, showing no signs of stress following the recent breakup.

Before the show, the actor posted a video captioned: “Road to Oasis. Could not be more f’in excited.” In another clip, he added: “It’s gonna be karaoke all night,” as he smiled at the camera.

He later warned his Instagram followers about the content of his Stories: “If you don’t like @oasis swipe on – if you wanna see me run through some of my favourite karaoke numbers for laughs here you are lol.”

Bloom sang along to several iconic Oasis tracks, including Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova, as well as Live Forever, Take Me Away, and Half the World Away.

After the concert, he reflected on the experience: “My 16-year-old self who was at Knebworth just let it all hang out in Manchester, what a night.”

The actor’s public outing in Manchester comes shortly after he and Katy announced the end of their nine-year relationship.

The couple, who got engaged six years ago and share daughter Daisy Dove together, released a joint statement confirming the split.

“Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on coparenting,” their representatives said in the statement. “They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is, and always will be, raising their daughter with love, stability and mutual respect.”

A source close to the couple previously said the breakup was amicable. “Katy and Orlando have split but are amicable. Katy is, of course, upset but is relieved not to have to go through another divorce, as that was the worst time in her life,” the insider said.

Hints of emotional strain had surfaced on Bloom’s Instagram earlier this month. On July 2, he shared a quote from Carl Jung: “Loneliness does not come from having no people about one, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself.”

He also posted a Buddha quote days before: “Each day is a new beginning. What we do today is what matters most.”

The couple welcomed their daughter, Daisy, in 2020. Their shock split comes after Katy recently announced her departure from American Idol after seven seasons, reportedly to focus on new music.

Marc Marquez wins chaotic German MotoGP at Sachsenring

Marc Marquez proved once again why he is known as the “King of Sachsenring” when the Ducati rider marked his 200th MotoGP start by winning the German Grand Prix in a race that became a test of survival after only 10 of 18 riders finished.

Marquez’s ninth MotoGP victory at the Sachsenring stretched his championship lead over brother Alex, who finished second, to 83 points while Marc’s teammate Francesco Bagnaia finished third to sit 147 points behind.

Alex Marquez had started fifth on the grid and took second in his 100th MotoGP start despite still recovering from a fractured hand he suffered at the Dutch Grand Prix two weeks ago, which required surgery.

Several riders crashed over the course of the race, especially at turn one – including VR46 Racing’s Fabio Di Giannantonio and Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi when they were in second place.

But the day belonged to Marc Marquez as he marked his latest triumph at his favourite hunting ground by standing on his bike and doing a jig as he passed the chequered flag – a fourth straight weekend where he had won both the sprint and the race.

“One more [win at the Sachsenring] was super special. From the beginning, I felt good, the confidence when I started the weekend was super high because we were coming from three victories in a row,” he said.

“We are in an incredible moment. Now we can say that half the season is done. Now [the second] half we still need to be super concentrated.”

More riders fall in the challenging conditions

Pedro Acosta became the third rider to crash early on after Lorenzo Savadori and Miguel Oliveira, with the young Spaniard gesturing at his fallen machine in frustration.

Di Giannantonio had broken the lap record in Friday’s practice and given Marc Marquez a tough time early in the sprint race on Saturday.

But the Italian was unable to push any harder to catch up to Marquez, who found a comfortable rhythm and pace to surge more than two seconds ahead despite easing off the throttle on two laps to conserve his tyres.

As Marquez’s lead stretched to more than three seconds, Di Giannantonio’s challenge came to an end on the downhill braking zone on turn one when he lost control and crashed, with his bike tumbling across the gravel while he escaped unhurt.

LCR Honda’s Johann Zarco, who started second on the grid before getting pushed down the order, crashed at the same turn seconds later.

Bezzecchi had moved up to second, but the Aprilia rider also bit the dust on the very next lap at turn one, moving Alex Marquez up to second while Bagnaia suddenly found himself in the podium positions.

The crashes did not end there as Trackhouse Racing’s Ai Ogura lost his balance on turn one and ended up taking out Honda’s Joan Mir in the process, leaving only 10 of the 18 starters.

Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo finished fourth ahead of Alex Marquez’s Gresini Racing teammate Fermin Aldeguer.

Tributes to Jota and Silva before Liverpool friendly

Reuters

Tributes have been paid to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva ahead of Liverpool’s first match since their death.

Portugal and Liverpool forward Jota and Silva, also a professional footballer, died in a car crash on 3 July in the Spanish province of Zamora.

Prior to the Reds’ first pre-season friendly at Preston North End, there were emotional renditions of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love and Liverpool club anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

During the latter, a visibly emotional Preston captain Ben Whiteman laid a wreath in front of the travelling Liverpool supporters.

The away end, filled with flags and scarves commemorating the former Porto and Wolves attacker, loudly sung Jota’s song as the players walked out before an impeccably observed minute’s silence.

At the start of the 20th minute, the crowd burst into another rendition of Jota’s song.

There was a muted celebration when Conor Bradley opened the scoring for Liverpool, with the full-back looking up to the heavens as he walked back to his position.

Striker Darwin Nunez scored the Reds’ second and paid his own tribute by doing two of Jota’s celebrations in front of the Liverpool fans.

The match programme had a black and white picture of Jota holding the Premier League trophy and featured tributes to the Liverpool player and his brother.

Liverpool have retired Jota’s number 20 shirt across all areas of the club, making the announcement at 20:20 BST on Friday.

In his first interview since Jota’s death, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot told Liverpool TV: “If we want to laugh, we laugh; if we want to cry, we’re going to cry.

“If they want to train they can train, if they don’t want to train they can not train. But be yourself, don’t think you have to be different than your emotions tell you.

“We will always carry him with us in our hearts, in our thoughts, wherever we go.”

Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool, helping them win the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022 and the Premier League title last season.

He played his final match for Portugal as they beat Spain in the final of the Nations League on 8 June. He scored 14 goals in 49 internationals.

The Guardia Civil told BBC Sport that Jota and his brother died after their car, a Lamborghini, left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle.

Striker Darwin Nunez scored the Reds’ second and paid his own tribute by doing two of Jota’s celebrations in front of the Liverpool fans.

Cody Gakpo followed suit after adding the third in a 3-1 win and then held his fingers up to signal the number 20, Jota’s squad number at Liverpool.

The match programme had a black and white picture of Jota holding the Premier League trophy and featured tributes to the Liverpool player and his brother.

Emotional Liverpool fans ‘very proud’ of team

Thousands of Liverpool fans travelled to Deepdale, in practice to watch their team undertake their first run-out of the new campaign, but in reality to pay tribute to Jota and Silva and to show support to the team and coaching staff.

Those who packed out the Bill Shankly Kop belted out Jota’s name before kick-off and followed that up with regular airing throughout the match, with Preston supporters joining them, standing and clapping along in rhythm, for a rendition in the 20th minute.

Fans brought with them whatever they could to demonstrate their love for a player whose tenacity, knack for scoring important goals in big games, and gregarious character made him one of the most highly thought-of players during the club’s recent period of success under Jurgen Klopp and Slot.

“I feel very emotional,” Liverpool fan Jane, wearing a custom T-shirt dedicated to Jota, said. “I feel very proud of my team and all the tributes they’ve put together.”

One fan, Mathew, told me about the challenge of explaining Jota’s death to his young children.

“It has been really difficult,” he said. “I told my seven-year-old on the morning it happened and he just burst into tears. It’s very hard for him to understand.”

Mathew’s 15-year-old son Rafael – named after Champions League-winning Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez – added: “I feel gutted. But Liverpool is a family and we’ve all come together to pay our respects in the right way.”

Liverpool’s anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone, has taken on many different roles throughout the club’s history, in times of both triumph and tragedy, but has never before been sung quite in this way or for quite this reason.

The way in which it was bellowed this afternoon conveyed an immense depth of feeling for a footballer adored by followers of his club, while for those on the pitch, playing without him for the first time will have been just one of many important stages of their grief.
