Love Island stars announce shock engagement one year on from meeting on ITV2 show

A Love Island couple have announced they are engaged. Taking to social media the duo revealed they had been “sitting on bad boy piece of information” as they shared their huge news.

Uma Jammeh shared the news on her Instagram account. And in the comments section to the post, partner Wil made a Beyonce pun.

A year after the duo met in the Love Island villa, Uma wrote: We’ve been sitting on a bad boy piece of information.” She also shared a diamond ring emoji as she showed off the new piece of jewellery in holiday snaps.

While Wil wasn’t in the images, he took to the comments to say: “I liked it, so I put a ring on it.” Uma quickly joked back, saying: “Period.”

Uma revealed she is engaged

He also posted a picture of the couple clinking glasses as he wrote: “Cheers to that.”

Fans and followers were quick to send congratulatory messages to the pair. On Uma’s post, fellow former islander Mimmi Tafara couldn’t hide her excitement. In a number of posts, she gushed: “AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!,” before quickly following it up with: “CONGRATULATIONS OMG.”

Uma replied: “@mimiitafara thankyou my sister,” followed by a string of emojis, including pink love hearts. “Part of our journey from the start to the end.”

Last July after he was dumped from the villa, Wil admitted he felt he was leaving the show with a girlfriend – and things have continued to heat up. He said in his exit chat: “It went so well, but then obviously Casa came.

“I felt like I owed it to myself to explore, doing that caused a few issues but it made me realise I wanted a future with Uma.”

Wil and Uma have moved in together

He continued: “Coming back to the Villa wasn’t exactly easy and from then on it was about proving to her how I really felt. I feel like I tried to prove it in as many ways I could. I feel like what I did and said to her was enough for her to end her journey with me.”

And he added: “It makes me feel amazing, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome to be honest. I’ve been in there for three and a half weeks and I’ve left with a girlfriend pretty much.”

Uma made the decision to leave the show with Wil. And weeks after their exit the pair took to their social media to share an insight into where they had moved in together. Wil posted a video to his TikTok where he made the living arrangements announcement.

He opened the door to an empty flat before he spun round and showed viewers a sneak peek.

Ibas Inaugurates RSIEC, Rivers Civil Service Commission

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), has inaugurated the newly reconstituted boards of key commissions in the state, including the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

He charged members of the agencies to uphold discipline, competence, integrity, and a commitment to service.

Other commissions whose members were inaugurated include the Rivers State Civil Service Commission, Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, and the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board.

The members were nominated by the administrator and screened by the National Assembly following the emergency rule in the state.

Speaking at the ceremony on Monday at Government House, Port Harcourt, Ibas emphasised that the effectiveness of the commissions was vital to stabilising governance, strengthening democratic institutions, and promoting good governance in the state.

Addressing the newly sworn-in chairman and members of RSIEC, Ibas stressed the need for credible local government elections that genuinely reflected the people’s will.

“Your task is clear but demanding: to conduct free, fair, transparent, and credible elections at the grassroots level. You must resist bias, favoritism, and external interference while restoring public confidence in the electoral process,” he stated.

“The independence of your actions is crucial to sustaining peace, stability, and grassroots governance. I urge you to act with fairness, impartiality, and professionalism—even in the face of difficult choices,” he added.

He reminded them that RSIEC’s independence was critical to sustaining peace, grassroots governance, and stability, urging fairness, professionalism, and impartiality even under pressure.

To the state civil service commission, the administrator called for an end to mediocrity in public service, advocating merit-driven recruitment, capacity-building, and promotion practices.

“The civil service must transition from favoritism to competence, integrity, and accountability. Your commission will lead reforms, including digital transformation and standardised practices across ministries, departments, and agencies,” he said.

He revealed that comprehensive training and systemic reforms were already in motion.

The state local government service commission was tasked with professionalising the local government system.

“As the closest tier of government to the people, you must drive reforms that insulate the system from politics and mediocrity. Your mandate includes merit-based recruitment, training, and enforcing standards for effective service delivery,” he added.

For the Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board, Ibas highlighted the need to revitalise primary healthcare services across the 23 local government areas.

“Primary healthcare is the foundation of a sustainable health system. Your board must ensure facilities are adequately staffed, equipped, and operational—focusing on maternal health, immunisation, malaria control, and community health services,” he said.

He stressed the need for data-driven management, incentives for rural health workers, and restoring a functional referral system.

Newcastle have made a move to sign Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

The 23-year-old scored 15 goals and made eight assists last season as his side finished third in the Bundesliga.

Sources said Newcastle are now exploring a potential deal to sign the Frenchman, who would likely cost more than £70m.

Despite the interest in Ekitike, BBC Sport has been told Newcastle have no interest in selling last season’s top scorer Alexander Isak who has been linked with clubs across Europe including Liverpool.

Sweden striker Isak, 25, joined from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £63m, which is currently the club’s record purchase.

Newcastle finished fifth in the Premier League last season qualifying for the Champions League.
