Italy legend Buffon’s son, 17, makes professional debut

Pisa SC Press Office

Louis Buffon, the son of Juventus and Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon, made his professional debut for Serie B side Pisa on Sunday.

Unlike his World-Cup winning father, who made more than 1, 000 professional appearances during a glittering career as a goalkeeper before retiring in 2023 – the 17-year-old is a left-sided attacking player.

Forward Louis was introduced as a late substitute by Pisa boss Filippo Inzaghi – who played alongside his dad for the Azzurri – as they fell to a 3-2 defeat at Spezia.

Pisa, who are second in the table, are looking to return to the top flight for the first time since 1991.

Charlotte Dawson looks radiant as she leaves hospital with daughter hours after giving birth

Charlotte Dawson looked on top of the world as she left hospital after delivering her newborn baby daughter on Sunday.

The Celebs Go Dating star, 32, was joined by partner Matthew Sarsfield in the delivery room as they tearfully welcomed their third child together. The couple are also parents to sons Noah, four, and Jude, 18 months. After giving birth to her baby girl following a hospital dash, Charlotte looked radiant as she was pictured leaving the hospital with her new arrival and Matt.

The much-loved TV star donned a pink knitted midi dress as she carried their bags and hospital suitcase to the car while fiancé Matthew carried their most precious cargo – their newest bundle of joy.

Matthew planted a kiss on his newborn daughter’s head before carefully placing her into the car seat. Meanwhile, Charlotte watched the sweet moment as she wrapped up in an embroidered denim jacket.

Meanwhile, their newborn daughter – who they have not yet confirmed a name for – was dressed to perfection in pink button-up set, complete with an adorable white lace bonnet over her head. Charlotte had previously confessed that if she were to be blessed with a girl, she would ensure that she was the most stylish little girl in all of the UK.

Before the birth, and as the couple made their way to hospital, Charlotte handed over the phone to her partner so that he could film her at hospital. After downing orange juice and Percy Pigs, Charlotte gave birth to their baby girl. “So proud”,Matthew captioned a photo, before a video showed Charlotte cradling their newborn.

“She’s here”, he declared, as her mum told her she had her “princess”. He went on to share a photo of himself holding their tiny daughter in his arms. “Amazing our girl is here safe and sound”.

Their daughter was born at 8lb 9oz. In another video, Charlotte was glowing as her daughter enjoyed her first feed at 10.30pm. In another photo, Matt cuddled up to Charlotte on the hospital bed as they gazed down at their daughter.

New mum Charlotte revealed that she had attended a party earlier in the day on Saturday, but the pain had become “too much” and they had rushed to hospital after realising she was in labour.

While on the way to the hospital, she told followers: “Well guys, it’s happening, I’ve not got a contraction right now but it’s happening. Oh my God, I’ve had pains all day since 12 o’clock, I’ve been at a kids party, I’ve been walking around. Ugh, it’s just got too much, the pain. It’s every five minutes, every three to five minutes these contractions. So, Matthew is going to try and update you all and make sense, so give it a follow and he’ll be updating you with Trace”.

Missed opportunity as trophy pressure grows on Arteta

Mikel Arteta’s 200th Premier League game as Arsenal manager was not so much a celebration as a wake for another title challenge that fell short.

Arsenal’s nearly men produced another nearly performance in the 1-1 draw at Manchester United, a display that was so much of their season in microcosm, leaving them needing binoculars to see Liverpool, who lead the table by 15 points.

The Gunners weaved pretty patterns around Old Trafford with their 68.2% possession, but barely landed a serious blow on a United side short on quality and shorn of confidence until Declan Rice’s crisp 74th-minute strike levelled Bruno Fernandes ‘ trademark free-kick in first-half stoppage time.

Arsenal have been fading for weeks, the failure to sign a recognised striker exposed as a flawed strategy, with injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz compounding the absence of key figure Bukayo Saka.

And their failed transfer policy came into sharp relief at Old Trafford when, with Arteta’s side needing a winning goal to keep even their wafer-thin title chances alive, he turned to full-back Kieran Tierney, who is leaving for Celtic at the end of the season, rather than forward Raheem Sterling.

Sterling was a last-minute signing in the summer transfer window on loan from Chelsea, but has been unable to make any impact.

It appeared to be an Arteta vanity project as he believed he could revive a career that had come to a dead halt at Stamford Bridge, where Sterling was marginalised by manager Enzo Maresca, despite working with him during more successful times at Manchester City.

If proof of the deal’s failure was needed, this was it. It was a bad fit when Arsenal desperately needed a goalscorer.

The sight of midfielder Mikel Merino labouring as an emergency striker to no effect emphasised how Arsenal had left that key position to the fates and lost.

Arteta admitted as much as he said: “The efficiency we had in the last 20 metres wasn’t good enough. We know that.

” To come to Old Trafford and do what we did is superb, but you have to capitalise and we didn’t. We then had to try to overturn the result after going behind and you know how difficult that is here. “

This does not take into account Arsenal had 48 hours more to prepare for this game than Manchester United, who played away to Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday, and have injury problems of their own.

Arteta, by most measures, has improved Arsenal and been successful. The only gauge that matters at a club of their stature, though, is the tangible success of trophies and he still only has their 2020 FA Cup success to show for his progress.

This is not to suggest the Spaniard has been a failure. Far from it.

Arteta, understandably, retains the complete faith of the Arsenal hierarchy as he has moved them in the right direction. And it is expected he will soon be working with a new sporting director in Andrea Berta, who is to succeed Edu after the Italian left the same position with Atletico Madrid in January.

In his first 200 matches, Arteta has 119 wins, the fifth highest tally of any manager in that amount of Premier League games.

And since his appointment in succession to Unai Emery in 2019, only Pep Guardiola, his mentor at Manchester City when he was assistant manager there, has more victories and points in the Premier League.

Arteta also has eight more wins than Arsene Wenger achieved when he hit the mark of 200 top-flight matches.

Arsenal can also consider themselves live contenders for the Champions League, with a quarter-final place virtually assured after their spectacular away win at PSV.

Downcast Declan Rice after Arsenal's disappointing draw at Manchester United left them 15 points adrift of Premier League leaders LiverpoolGetty Images

Arsenal must consider this season’s title race a missed opportunity after running Manchester City close in the last two campaigns – only to stumble near the finishing line. City’s unforeseen collapse opened the door to their rivals, but it is Arne Slot’s Liverpool who have stepped through it, while the Gunners faltered once more.

Liverpool’s relentless march has seen them ease away from Arsenal, who have fallen away to such an extent that even the subdued reception from players and supporters in a corner of Old Trafford after the final whistle carried a resigned air.

They know the game is up.

Asked if the title race is over in the press conference, having walked out when asked the same question by Sky Sports, the Arsenal boss said:” I don’t want to say that, but today the frustration is that we haven’t won a game.

“We know the urgency and we are obligated to win every single match if you want to have any chance of doing that. I don’t think it’s the right moment to talk about that anyway”.

While it is effectively meaningless in the wider title context, it could have been even worse for Arsenal.

Goalkeeper David Raya was culpable for Fernandes ‘ opener, positioning himself too far to his right, allowing the Portuguese midfielder to show his expertise by planting the free-kick perfectly as the Spaniard scrambled away in vain to his left.

Raya, however, made amends with two superb second-half saves from Noussair Mazraoui and Joshua Zirkzee, before a miraculous moment in the dying seconds. Having first blocked a shot from Fernandes, Raya somehow regained his position to claw the ball away from right on the line as a dramatic late United winner looked certain.

In between, it took a magnificent saving tackle from goalscorer Rice to rob United substitute Rasmus Hojlund as he raced into the area with only Raya to beat.

It will not make much difference to the destiny of the title. It simply emphasised that Arsenal’s impotence at one end leaves them increasingly vulnerable at the other.

And this reflects badly on Arteta and Arsenal’s recruitment team, who failed to address an obvious problem up front last summer.

As he moves on from his managerial landmark, the urgency is growing to mark his progress in the manner that matters most.

Coronation Street bosses announce major shake-up as character returns with two new stars

Viewers are set to be introduced to two new characters and see the return of a former resident on Coronation Street in the coming weeks, it’s been revealed.

The ITV show has announced that the three characters will “cause a commotion on the cobbles as they charm their way into Weatherfield”. The trio will arrive separately and it isn’t the first time that one of them has lived on the street.

Fans will be reintroduced to James Bailey (now played by Jason Callender) on March 17, with the character returning to Weatherfield to visit his family, including his sister Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), after having moved away in 2022. It’s teased that the former footballer quickly slots back into life on Coronation Street with his loved ones.

The character, introduced in 2019, was previously played by Nathan Graham, who had announced his departure from Corrie three years ago. Nathan worked on high-profile storylines whilst on the show, including James having shared that he was gay and the character being diagnosed with a disease of the heart muscle after having a heart attack.

New cast member Jason said: “James is determined, whatever he puts his mind to he absolutely goes for it. He’s a little brother so expect little brother pranks but more than anything he loves his family and he really wants to be a dad”.

The show is also welcoming James Cartwright into its cast as new character Theo Silverton (Danielle Baguley/ITV)

The following week, fans will meet scaffolder Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) on March 25. Theo gets on the wrong side of Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) and George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) before Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) helps him get along with the locals. It’s teased that there’s an “instant attraction” from Todd.

James said: “I think Theo is a good guy, he comes in with the best of intentions, as most people do, but he may upset some people with his behaviour”. He teased: “I had a line the other day where I said ‘ I think I left my trousers in the bedroom ‘ so make of that what you will”.

And then next month, Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) and Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) will reunite with their brother Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard). The character will make his debut on the cobbles on April 11 when he’s involved in an altercation with Kevin’s wife Abi Webster (Sally Carman) over a car park space.

Jonathan said: “Carl is Kevin and Debbie’s little brother, they have different mums so he’s a bit younger than they are. He comes into Weatherfield to ostensibly be with his brother because he’s found out he’s got cancer but then we’ll discover Carl’s got some money issues back in Germany where he’s been living”.

Announcing the arrival of Theo and Carl, as well as the return of James, ITV has teased: “]They] have plenty of family ties and more than enough history to bring fresh drama and conflict to some of our most well loved residents. But aside from the smiles, what really lies beneath the charming exterior of these three men and what secrets do they carry”?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV, ITVX, STV and STV Player.

Romania’s far-right candidate Georgescu barred from May presidential vote

Romania’s central election authority has banned far-right pro-Russian candidate Calin Georgescu from running in the country’s May presidential election re-run, triggering protests from Georgescu’s supporters.

The decision, announced on Sunday, is not yet legally binding, and is expected to be appealed, with Romania’s Constitutional Court deciding on an appeal by Wednesday.

The far-right candidate unexpectedly won the first round of the country’s presidential election on November 24.

Shortly before the run-off, the Constitutional Court cancelled the first round due to irregularities in campaign financing pinned on Russian meddling, with the election rescheduled for May 4.

After the election authority’s decision, about 300 of Georgescu’s supporters gathered outside the election bureau shouting “freedom”! and tried to force their way through the security cordon.

Georgescu denounced the election authority’s move on X as “a direct blow to the heart of democracy worldwide”.

He is currently leading opinion polls with about 40 percent of the vote.

Allegations of Russian interference

Georgescu submitted his candidacy for the May ballot re-run on Friday despite doubts that he would be allowed to run.

Romania’s highest court annulled the ballot two days before the second round of voting in December, citing allegations of Russian interference in Georgescu’s favour, which Moscow has denied.

Georgescu had denounced the annulment as a “formalised coup d’etat”. In recent weeks, tens of thousands of people have also protested against the decision.

Members of US President Donald Trump’s administration called Romania’s cancelled election an example of European governments suppressing freedom of speech and political opponents.

Tech billionaire and Trump adviser Elon Musk called the election authority’s decision “crazy” on his social media platform X.

Georgescu is under criminal investigation on six counts, including membership in a fascist organisation and communicating false information about campaign financing.

He has denied all wrongdoing.
